And "Another One Bites the Dust" ;) :) :D Finally
Proyecto: Sd.Kfz.10/4

Nice! This was the first ESCI kit I ever built..apart from the high flash level it builds into an acceptable little kit...😢
17 March 2015, 05:57

Hi, M.Julian. Thanks'. I'm Leaving the Dragon ones to the end hehehe. My first ESCI was the 7.5 cm. Light Infantry Gun German Artillery Unit 1:35 (I will also make a photoalbum from it). That's true, but dealing with flash and seams it's part of the hobby and it's ok for me (and sometimes even relaxing)...
17 March 2015, 13:07

Be aware M.Julian, because the italeri instructions also have some errors...
19 March 2015, 12:59

Cool project dude, trailer is looking cool, you need to jump back on this one 🙂
24 July 2015, 01:42

There's a certain satisfaction to getting a terrible old kit into a presentable state that you just don't get with modern high quality kits. Good job!
22 June 2016, 15:56

Thank you mates, comments much appreciated.
@EnsignExpendabl, You are absolutely right mate, as I prefer to save instead really spend lots of money in after market or very expensive new models.
I really enjoy improving the old hobby stuff with some improvisation😉
@John, Finally I think now I'm getting near the end of it.😎
22 June 2016, 16:56

The fight with too stiff and hard tracks and a broken one. Simultaneously trying to simulate track Sag.
24 June 2016, 14:16

Thank you, mates, appreciated.
@Roy I agree and it was very easy to do it with that small saw😉
25 June 2016, 00:30

Nice work improving this ancient Esci kit! I recently built an equally terrbile Esci Sdkfz 10, and it is indeed quite satisfying to improve the old kit yourself, instead of buying loads of aftermarket.
25 June 2016, 17:38

Hi Tomska,
Thx for your nice comment, much appreciated.
I fully agree with you, mate. It's quite rewarding to get your best from an old kit.
You should post some albums of your work...🙂
26 June 2016, 12:08

Started figure painting, base paint, some kind of colour modulation, detail painting and gloss varnish for future wash's, filters and chipping.
Some more detail added😎
5 July 2016, 00:12

Hi Mate,
Thank you very much for your really nice comment Choppa. Coming from you has a special taste.
Ok, if you say so, I will change the Teaser, but it is still a work in progress 🙂
7 July 2016, 22:39

Not to salty I hope haha 😄
anyhow, doesn't matter that it is a work in progress, we all wanna see at a glance progress is being made😉 😄
Seriously though, nice work, one thing though, better lights and a contrasting background, a sheet of warm light blue or something just to help the model pop out the photos a bit more make your good work easier to see 🙂
7 July 2016, 22:48

@Choppa, Of course you are right Mate.
Normally I take photos with a white background and different lights or natural light. I will do it later on the process.
This ones are from my working place just to memorize the progress.
@Dave, Thank you for your GREAT comment. much appreciated.
I think, next phase will be:
Adding more details and gear, apply dry pastels and mate varnish. Also detail painting and washes in the figurines.😉
7 July 2016, 23:29

sorry don't mean to be picky but you're doing nice work here and it is worth getting that white sheet out to present it well 😄
Anyhow, looking forward to seeing it to completion 🙂
7 July 2016, 23:45

Me too, my my friend, me too.
I will do it slowly and meanwhile I will try to take better photos😎
I've got the MOJO to end this one and the other two also.
Let's see how long it will take hehehe
7 July 2016, 23:50

Este é o meu País.
Não precisamos de electricidade na torre Eiffel.......👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Parabéns PORTUGAL
11 July 2016, 03:08

Looks great. It goes to show that very old and supposed outdated kits can look great with a nice paint job. I also like how you've reworked old figures into something new😄 as for football I guess the Welsh had a pretty good run!😉
11 July 2016, 05:29

Thank you for the nice comment, M.Julian. much appreciated.
I'm glad you liked the paint job and the cannibalized old figures, (some older than others).
Yesterday I gave some talcum powder and pigments to simulate dried sand on the 10/4, and matte varnish on all.
I will post some new photos later😉
11 July 2016, 13:18

Some great effects you have achieved Rui.👍
The ware and tare of desert life has been well represented.🙂
I do like the road tyres on the front having the dust but a well blackened area from some hard miles. 🙂
Well done mate. 👍
11 July 2016, 14:13

Hi Kezza,
Thanks for your nice comment Mate.
I'm glad, really glad, you like the work so far. I hope I don't over do that effects.😉
11 July 2016, 14:16

Rui, the big thing about desert trucks, and your research images will show too is the grease that streaks outward from the hub caps/covers and the sand that gets stuck to it. 👍
And you have done that 'faded/bleached' upper surface paint well.
But as I say, the whole look is most convincing. 🙂 🙂
11 July 2016, 14:22

kezza, Thank s Mate.
Yes, you are right and I tried yesterday to do just that with the talcum powder and pigments as said and previously applied black satin oils.
It is just that, what I also hope I didn't over do it.
You will see it in the next photos.😉
11 July 2016, 15:54

I just add some photos, (not the best but quick ones) just to show that.
The matte varnish removed the satin look that I will add later on with satin varnish.
Also a photo with some more detail work on the windshield.
11 July 2016, 16:14

Excellent work & no I don't think you have overdone the weathering.
11 July 2016, 17:23

Respect Rui, this is shaping up nicely ! 👍 🙂
looking forward to some photos in daylight, hint hint😉 😄
11 July 2016, 17:25

@ Dave, Mate you have been most supporting. Thank you very much. 😄
@ Choppa, hehehe I hear you Mate...😉 Thanks
11 July 2016, 18:09

Esci is for those real modellers that go for it!Love the small details on that canonfloor
And i angree with Choppa, you truck needs some sunlight 🙂
21 September 2016, 08:10

Oh, ! Es ist so heiß hier draußen Klaus, ! Ja! Sie könnten Spiegeleier in der frnder machen !!. 🙂 👍.
Did I get that right. ?🙂
A most convincing heat of the day scene. Well done Rui. 👍 🙂
21 September 2016, 09:51

Looking at your work a little closer Rui, I have noted how much alteration to the figures positions you have done, and it's NOT easy to do. Exceptional mate, 👍
21 September 2016, 11:34

Hi Mates,
@Michaël, this is still a work in progress and this photos where just a dry test fit. from there, I've glued some more items and details in the cannon floor and all the figures (after some more detail painting). I hope to manage some new and better photos of the model prior to start the dio base. Hopping....
@Kezza, I think your German is worst then mine Mate hehehe, but I caught the idea😉 It's going to be another long hot day for those guys on a betted up half track. At least is that I'm trying to depict. As to the cannibalization I enjoy to alter all those well known Tamiya, Esci, Italeri figures. I have lots of them so I don't waste my money buying from better brands.
@Wesley, THX a LOT, but I've to say that I'm still struggling a lot with figures painting mainly faces so with so much flesh showing on some of the figures, this was a well come challenge to improve my skills. Still learning. Has we all know practice, is the key.
So Mates, I got speechless for a while with all your very nice comments. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, greatly appreciated. 🙂
21 September 2016, 13:35

Painting figures is a very time consuming job en not easy in 1/35 scale. Like you say, we learn allong the way!! And curse a lot! 😉
21 September 2016, 14:51

@ Kerry: Not bad, my friend! Not bad! Had you German at school?
21 September 2016, 20:52

Oh Thomas. I cheated mate. :-/
I put it through that 'Google translator and I posted it, but it was more fun trying to say it LOL 🙂
I remember seeing a film of the Germans in North Africa, cooking eggs on the hot steel of their panzers that was baked by the sun. 🙂
And Rui 's work is so good, it just bought it to mind. hehehe 🙂
21 September 2016, 22:38

Well Thomas, not with a good German accent. LOL
But I do remember my German father in law and the things he encouraged me to learn, and in my mind, I did OK. 🙂
22 September 2016, 14:17

@Wesley & Dave I agree. Lots of small scale test and experiment work and LOTS of cursing, that's for sure. I'm don't know if I will nail it but I will try.
@Kezza, if Thomas is saying "not bad" is because your German is much better than mine.
Now I know that. The Google translation to Portuguese was not 100% correct that's why I said that. But to pronounce or even try to learm the language is way behound my skills, hehehe. I wil keep wih my bad English and Spanish😉.
As to the film you mention, I've seen it (it's on a panzer II mudguard) but some say that it was a fake for propaganda proposes... Anyway, thank you all for your complements, they sure help me a lot.
22 September 2016, 17:10

As always Rui, your so humble in your replies. 🙂 👍
We all love your work, and especially all your research material you post. 🙂
22 September 2016, 23:22

I hope you are right Kezza 🙂, but when I'm into modelling the research goes to a 2ª plan unless is something related with the subject I'm doing at the moment or thinking to do next, or if a mate asks for help. Especially about German WWII afv affairs. 👍
23 September 2016, 01:15

I am still in awe Rui. Just ONE suggestion. The boots of the guy with his feet on the wind shield. Dusty with souls almost white. 👍
8 April 2018, 19:52

Thank you very much for your words, James. Coming from a Master it makes me feel great, but hard to believe. 🙂
@ Kezza, how are you my friend? You know that in my case a work in progress will last forever, hehehe. 😄
It is waiting for the trailer and a final puff of dust all over the horizontal parts and undercarriage. But thanks for your suggestion.😉
Also one day... I need to take some better photos, has Choppa advise.😎
9 April 2018, 19:21

Thank you for your nice words, again Kezza. I've not done yet what you sugested, because i've not touched this one since, but today i took some new photos of the all crew in position.
7 June 2020, 13:19

Fantastic detailing Rui. The assorted stowage items and crewmen look amazing. 👍
8 June 2020, 19:39

Great work. I see poor kits as a great opportunity to put in some very satisfying correction work.. The results of the efforts you put in really show.
8 June 2020, 22:59

I'm very happy that so many great modelers, like this still in progress kit. Thank you all very Much mates. Much apreciated.
@Neuling, Nice of you to stop by.
@James, i never had so much canibalized figures has this ones.
@Kezza, I've still to had some dust on .
@ Chaz, I'm still learning, so i still use older kits on my stash. I realy like to improve "bad" kits to a satisfying level. It gives me a lot of pleasure and not to use aftermarket itens to achive it, mor so.
9 June 2020, 20:23

I think today, any sizable stash will be mostly Old kits. I'd estimate mine at about 80% with the tool being from the 60s, 70s or 80s, another 15% from the 90s, the remainder tooled since 2000. To be fair, a chunk of the 60s & 70s kits are Tamiya, and may as well have been tooled in the 2000s for the quality, but there are as many 70s MPC kits which leave a lot of work to be done.
9 June 2020, 20:50

@Dave, thank you for your Nice words. It is not so much the surprise, it is more the happiness that the work and the effort is beeing recognized and deserved the comment of modelers with a high level talent, if you get my drift.
@Olivier, yes i agree, maybee he is drinking shnnaps from the canten to ease the pain??? I've tried to replicate the guy on the project photo (n. 28). Bythway a very interesting photo with an intrigging unit sign.
@Chás, you are probably right. That's my case for sure, but has i've said multiple times in sacalemates i never underestimate old Tamyias Italeris, Airfix, Esci and others, i like them all, not to say i love them. And i praised very much that older brands because they started all this. And yes many of those early and much cheeper kits leave a lot to improve, That's why i've been working with some of them.
10 June 2020, 12:22

Well said Rui. 👍
You covered all the bases on why we do what we do with what is available. 😉
You have excelled and have us all talking about it. 👍 🙂
10 June 2020, 18:29

Well Kezza, you are beeing to kind, my friend. THX.
I've just post some new photos of this old project because I didn't have any with all the crew in. But you are right about us and the hobby. Still I've yet to use some aftermarket pieces that came with some of my evilbay buys and the Dragons; Miniart; and newer brands that i've in my stash😉
10 June 2020, 22:46

Queria dizer "unusual"! 🙂 Refiro-me ao half track com a peça em cima, não conhecia.
11 June 2020, 11:16

Very nicely done. The crew, weathering and all the small details tell a story.
11 June 2020, 11:40

@Ricardo, Ah, ok.
@Daniel, Thank you for your Nice comments, I realy apreciate it and I'm glad you liked it.
11 June 2020, 12:04

@Olivier, I can't be 100% sure, but i found it on a book dedicated exclusively to the Afrika korps. Anyway, in my research I never found this "camel" sign anywhere.
11 June 2020, 12:15

OK. Because the unit sign I cannot link to any DAK unit. Still an interesting image in particular for the trailer.
11 June 2020, 12:18

Sorry, it was on a site dedicated to A.K. not a book. And yes, that's the intriging aspect of it.
11 June 2020, 12:23

Thank you Roy, Nice to know that you like. Much apreciatted.
Since I start cuting hands, I never stoped again and start cuting legs, arms, boots and everything else.😉
23 June 2020, 19:34

:-D it's the same reasons that said Fredy Krueger to the police when he was catched!
24 June 2020, 08:52

@Oscar, hehehe. Yap, I'm the Hooby Fredy, since.
Glad that there is not a scalepolice 😄
@ Peter, Hey Mate don't need that. We need you and your talent here😉
24 June 2020, 20:06

@Peter, I wrote "TEST" because I reactivated this thread to do a test with Tim, about the photos rotation feature.
Two photos in this album had been rotated and the thumbnails were missing. A old existing & anoying bug, fixed by Tim right away that day.
Didn't reply to you before because I didn't want to pull up the thread again.
@ Cesare, Thank you for your kind comment. I'm glad you like this one. Always apreciated.
11 July 2020, 11:35

I've got the older version of this kit molded in the dark gray and it's a tough one to work with; congrats for doing a stellar job, especially with those rather difficult and sometimes strangely posed figures of theirs. (I'm thinking of the Italeri Schwimmwagen with the officer holding his elbow up over his head LOL).
18 July 2020, 12:15

Thx a lot Al, much apreciatted and I'm really glad you like it.
I really liked all the work needed to make the kit and figures something decente. the result always serves as an incentive.
I'm leaving my best kits for when I have more experience.😉
18 July 2020, 15:43

Thank you for your nice comments, David Pearson and David Taylor. I'm realy glad you like it. Much apreciated.
15 March 2021, 00:09

Very nice achievement, excellent result, when we know the mediocre quality of the model, beautiful work. I have one to assemble, but I will put Tamiya or ADV tracks on it, those of the kit are much too fragile. I hope to arrive at a result as good as yours.
8 January, 10:13

@ Jean-Daniel, Thank you very much for your kind comment. Yap I've to agree with you about the kit, so I'll try to enhance the model a bit more with a decent dynamic diorama.
After the Elephant and before the Mariupol Dio, it was time to remove this one from the shelf of doom, waiting for ages.
It will be my version of the dunes. Still a lot of work to do, but I'm determined not to start a new diorama before finishing the two I have on hold.
1 18 February, 23:13

Wow Rui! You outdone yourself with that build - the figures are well done, and the work you put into the half-track is nothing short of transformative! ❤️❤️❤️
27 February, 15:05

@ Randy, Thank you, for your praise. Apreciated
@ CaptGPF Thx very much, for your unconditional support
@ Dave, I've to thank you. This batch of photos was inspired by your words. P.S. I did tell that I would like to do a dyinamic Diorama with it, But I don't intend to do more figures for it, so maybee a nice vignett...
@ Clifford, Always glad to see you here Thx a Lot.
For those more initiated in bases, or others more/less interested, this is my way doing a sand dune system, using current materials.
Some photos showing where it is progressing, this is the state in which it is currently.
1 March, 21:36

Very nice work on EVERYTHING! The figure modifications the painting, weathering and landscape. BRAVO!!!!!
2 March, 01:58

Great work. Love how you have the figures set as one who is looking at the ride, one who looks like he wants off the ride and the third one has no idea as to what's about to happen.
7 March, 16:11

@ Jeff C., wow. Thank you very much for your most kind comment, it makes me very motivated and proud.
@ Dave, glad that you like my work and comment it. Very much apreciated. Yah, glad and interesting you mention that, becouse the angle at which I decided to place the half-track on a sloping sand dune also came from the balanced positioning of some of the figures (if you notice the guy sitting on the left is leaning forward and the one with his SAS legs, he's already watching the film and holding his helmet). Little do they know what will happen on the other side after the jump... a leap into the unknown. 😄
@ David Taylor, for a long time, only Esci had this halftrack in 1/35. I've done also the 7.5 cm Light Infantry Gun. German Artillery Unit. ESCI | No. 5011 | 1:35. Another must before other brands launch the same kit later.
The damn sand dune took way too long. I went back and forth with the application and gluing of the powder and paint, but finally it seems acceptable to me and it already allows me to take some interesting photos. I hope you like them too.
Now all that's left is to finish painting the trailer convincingly and the base frame.
1 7 March, 16:26

Fantastic masterpiece of vintage craftsmanship,
in this sector Rui you are unmatched!
8 March, 15:28

I have to agree with everyone - all that work paid off in a cracking Dio! Thank you for sharing your build journey, and for the eye-candy, Rui!
11 March, 14:55

@ @ Pietro De Angelis, thank you very much for your support and kind comment, very much appreciated and important to me. Nevertheless I think your statement is a bit exaggerated, there are more mates here who also get good results with not so good kits and no aftermarket stuf, but thx again for you praise.
@ Gary Curling, Thx mate, not finished yet. Glad you liked and comment.
@ CaptGPF, Thank you so much for your comment and great support ,always very much apreciated. Glad you like this long build journey, now finelly near the end.
@ Mark Sherwood, thank you for stoping by (you know the remedy, one or more cool bears and all it's good). Glad you like it so far, I'm on the final stretch with the base and wrap this one.
The trailer is now painted in accordance (or almost) with the Half Track. Just the final touches on the base and it's done.
12 March, 12:47

The tailer looks incredible. Sitting here trying to figure out how you made that cover look so good.
12 March, 13:55

That tarp' on the trailer, top notch Rui. I'll be hoisting a few over the weekend too Mate.
12 March, 18:39

I second the need for a tutorial on the tarp.
By the way where do you locate the halftrack to be? Because the sand color in Tunisia is much more reddish compared to Morocco for example.
13 March, 12:05

@ Alec K, thank you very much and I agree with you, I've wanted to finish this scene for a long time, it's always rewarding to finish another piece of work.
@ Dave, Thx again for your support. I'm glad you enjoyed the trailer coverage. As always, my work is empirical, I'll experiment until I like it 😄
@ Mark, Thank you for your nice comment, very much appreciated. Looking forward to seeing your builds.
@ David Taylor, thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'm not sure the tarp deserves a tutorial, nor am I sure how to do it, but it seems there are several mates interested, so the new photos (reverse sequence) show what happened.
@ shadowlight, thx for your comment. As mentioned above I added new photos on how I made the tarp.
As for the location, I would say somewhere in Libya; Egypt or Tunisia.
14 March, 12:30

I like what you have done with this old kit, you have made clever improvements, added nice details and I especially like the way you have done the figures to add life👍🏻
14 March, 13:15

Hi Jan. Thank you very much for your kind comment. I'm glad you like my work on this one. Apreciated. I think old kit's are easiar to improve and also deserve a chance 😉
1 14 March, 14:10

Rui, I just went through all the photos and realized that the truck was built 10yrs ago! The trailer and the new dio looks very fantastic, I will watch this master show.
14 March, 14:54

Thank you for the reverse photos of tailer trap and information, this helps a great deal.
14 March, 14:57

@ Lorena Lin, thank you very much for stopping by and for the nice comment. Coming from such a talented modeler like you, I am honored and also very happy that you have been able to see so many photos. 😉
@ David, I'm happy to be able to share this information and that it helps in any way.
@ Jennifer Franklin, Thank you very much for your comment. Appreciated.
I can finally consider this long project complete. It isn't perfect and it took a lot of work, but I'm glad it's finished. I can now concentrate again on my Mariupol diorama, which I intend to be my tribute to all the victims of the invasion of that city.
@ Gorby, Thank you so much for your kind comment and praise words, which makes me feel very good. Most apreciated. Yes, I have to agree with you, I think now it was worth waiting and never giving up on an old model.
2 15 March, 16:01

Incredible. Rarely do we see a diorama that shows a story as well as this one. You're making Shep proud with this one!
16 March, 21:19

Thanks, Song is sitting in my head for the rest of the evening now 🤣
Anyway you've done a very well job there mate!
18 March, 18:32

@ Lebloge, thank you Mate, for stopping by and comment. Always appreciated;
@ Jan Peters, thx, I'm glad you liked it. I decided to try mimicking the dust, something that I've seen arround but new for me;
@ Dave, as always, thank you for your suport. Nice of you to say so;
@ Major Oak, Thx a lot for your kind words. They sure are enough to make me proud;
@ Jeremias H, I'm glad to read your comment I also think it come out like that;
@ Mojo DeVirus, thx, I'm glad you feel that;
@ Arnold Mertens, it is my pleasure to share my work. I like to keep record of every step, so It's always difficult to me to choose and summarize the huge amount of photos I take during projects to present them here. Even so, there are always enough;
@ fj55mike, Thank you so much for your kind comment. I sure wish my work could be half as good as Shep's. would be great;
@ Ben, Yap, I see what you mean, 😄 but as I neared the end on this one, I couldn't find better words to describe it. Thank you;
@ Guy Rump, Nice of you to say so. Thx a lot;
@ Andrei, Thank you for your comment on something very different from your beautiful work.
1 29 March, 21:40

@ J35J, thank you for stoping by, apreciated;
@ Doubtingmango, thank you very much for your kind words. Really glad you like my sand dune becouse it gave me way to much work to get this result;
@ Bob Hall, kidding apart, I Think it's more becouse of the dust, that makes the dynamic impression that they are going fast. Anyway, driving on the dunes is tricky, but I think the relaxed driver, with his glasses is the only one seeing, what he's doing and he's already on the breaks 😉 I wanted to try the dust, and I also struggled a bit with it too, so I'm happy I did it.
30 March, 11:46

Great scene, the dust effect on the vehicle made for a unique diorama! Nice weathering of the cloth on the trailer as well.
29 April, 20:35

I agree with Ryan, what a great effect, especially with the desert background
1 30 April, 12:57

@ Mr James, Thank you for your nice words. I'm really glad you saw and like the photos with desert background.
@ Dom S. Thank you for stopping by and comment. Apreciated.

Thank you very much for your kind words Michael. I will post some more photos soon 🙂 ... But, real outstanding is your Work Michael 👍
21 March 2015, 23:10

Nice work on the brigde. Hope you can ceep the niveau... not building up pressure here😉
21 March 2015, 23:17

Is my (almost finished so no pressure at all) first dio in the snow, as such, it is not possible to achieve yours high levels 🤔
21 March 2015, 23:28

I've seen your projects... You rock mate. I Hope you still have more decades to enjoy...
22 March 2015, 10:01

Rui, take your time, I´m in the game for more than a decade now (and about 4 years in 1:35)... not a day without learing something new. Saying you´re on a pretty good way is probably not enough.😉
22 March 2015, 11:33

Do the Tamiya Panther come with the option to do it as an early Ausf. A? Black 701 is a rather famous early Ausf. A as it's one of very few Ausf. A's that didn't have zimmerit. All Ausf. A's with the MG kugelblende on the front glacis had zimmerit. It was only a few, possible less than ten of the first 50 Ausf. A's with the MG hatch like the Ausf. D's that lacked zimmerit.
Excellent work on the bridge and your diorama is going to be a marvel to behold! This will be nice to follow...
22 March 2015, 12:24

No, not without cutting the Kuglblende from the glacis, which would be an interresting approach though. But probably a mess to clean up.
22 March 2015, 12:39

I would use scalemates.com/kits/108116-dragon-6160-panther-a which was rereleased at the end of last year, so should be available, and has the decals for 701.
I am a Tamiya fanboy 🙂 but their Panther A is best used for selfmade Zimmerit practise and such things 😉
22 March 2015, 17:49

Sorry for the late answer, Mates. Donald, I've made a big study in all my books and magazines and ended up with more then 200 photos of wwII wooden bridges (Black and white and colour) ...
22 March 2015, 20:39

Fabian, every comment is more than enough for me, and very important, so I Thank you all for them (Good or bad) doesn't matter. I'm here to learn and exchange experiences, not to impress the Judges, Purists, or Experts. I think I've something to show, so I do. without pulling narrow goods?... Strange for me was the fact that no one answered, to my comment «Help needed»... 🤔
22 March 2015, 20:57

Urban, I was so concentrated in my bridge, that I neglected the panther study. I thought that if the turret was equal them it would be a ausf A. It was to late when I discovered that the "A" didn't have the hull machine gun. Not historically accurate as you will see, that's true. But I wanted to make one without the Zimmerit, so I think mine is one of that 10 from the first 50 ones...😉 As said above, sorry to disappoint you guys but I'm not a Panther expert and this will be the first and the last one I have built (unless is the recovery one). Like the Tiger and all the other ones, I want to build different model's. If I start buying ausfs a, b, c, d, etc, My wife would divorce me in a instant hehehe. As I said in "About me" keep the hobby cheap that's my thing... Not Keep on looking for the Ultimate perfection. I'm not a pro...😉 Anyhow I like to Imagine my projects in somewhat real circumstances that happened in the war and study them Like what happened in the Gniloy-Tikich river. Hope you understand my point of view... P.S Thank you for your nice words...
22 March 2015, 21:22

You can make it without zimmerit if you like, it's your build but that kit wouln't be historically correct without zimmerit.
22 March 2015, 23:07

Sorry Urban, but I don't understand. The first images show an ausf. A n.º 701 without the Zimmerit, how can it be historically incorrect???
22 March 2015, 23:29

If you use the Tamiya Ausf. A for building Black 701 it'll be historically incorrect due to the kugelblende in the front glacis plate that is the only option in that kit. Black 701 was one of the first 50 Ausf. A's that all lacked the kugelblende on the front glacis plate and instead had the same MG hatch as the earlier Ausf. D had.
22 March 2015, 23:55

Ok, thank you Gardini. Therefore has nothing to do with the issue of zimme. As said above I only notice that to late so it's not historically correct, yes. I had to leave with that. Unless I change that hatch. Is that the only difference?
23 March 2015, 00:08

No zimmerit is correct for Black 701 so that's ok. It's just the main feature with the hatch that's not ok. But there's nothing to to about that now as it's been built. I'm sure that you've done as fine job building the Panther as you've done with the bridge. So what's most important in the end is that you're ok with your build. I was too late with my input for you to be able to make something out of it. What you can do with it if you want to compete with your build is to put zimmerit on it and repaint the Panther and use some other suitable markings for it other than Black 701. Why? Here's why, all Ausf. A's with the fixed MG in the kugelblende on the front glacis had zimmerit, no exceptions there. Either way you do it I'm sure it'll be a great diorama in the end.
23 March 2015, 00:23

Thanks' for your help and nice words Urban. I'm going to stick with the historically incorrect version. Compete is one thing that I'm sure that I shouldn't do, ever. I'm not that skillfull, so don't reach that kind of level...
Added some new bridge photos with snow...
23 March 2015, 00:35

Humm, let's see, white paint, talcum powder, and Christmas Traditions, snow spray aerosol, sprayed over a bakery mesh...😄
23 March 2015, 01:11

Thx😉 , I think it's like we say: "the need the mother of invention" it's a bit difficult to find good modelling materials in Portugal, and when you find them they are expensive so... "Future" or "Pledge" are things that we can't find, for instance...
23 March 2015, 02:10

hehehe... Not so far in Portugal... but I also do that with my ever growing stash. you change your Profile image?
23 March 2015, 02:23

Thank you very much George. Your words are a great compliment... I will post some more photos soon 🙂
23 March 2015, 02:53

Painting the thing. As they say in the first image «is a freshly delivered tank. Whitewash camouflage was applied with notable care». Some new photos...
25 March 2015, 13:50

Thank you very much Michael, for your motivating words. Glad you like it...
25 March 2015, 21:50

GAAAAAH! That L/70 doesn't look the way it should. I've got an Dragon barrel that you can have if you want it!
25 March 2015, 22:24

Thank You Very Much for your very friendly offer Urban 👍 , but I've already fix the L/70 with Humbrol model filler, and I think it's just fine now, as you will see in the next photos...😉
25 March 2015, 22:58

Nothing special I'd say, it's just the way our community work. A bit of modelling karma as you get help from a fellow modeller with a missing part or decals or something else without any real value and it just happens so that a fellow modeller have just that part in his/hers box of spares. I common answer when the receiver ask what the giver want as a compensation is nothing, it's free of charge but somewhere down the line the situation may be reversed and you happen to be able to help someone out, do that then. So it's modelling karma with it's ripples that spreads all over the world. We modellers do help each others in as many ways we can, be it with parts, advice or tricks, you name it. It's just the way the modelling community works!
25 March 2015, 23:20

I understand that, Urban. It's good to belong, and know mates that are willing to help... 👍
25 March 2015, 23:34

So cool! The tank, is of course, awesome. What really impresses me? The tread marks/leavings of the tracks in the snow. Wow. Just, wow.
26 March 2015, 21:53

Looking great mate! But I spotted an error that is easy to correct for you. The panzerfaust should be dunkelgelb.
26 March 2015, 21:57

I'm Very glad you like them Leif... hoping to do better in the next one, after completion of the last 3... 🤔 Always in the end I feel that I could/should done better 😄
26 March 2015, 22:04

Hi Urban, that's completely true, I've been making that mistake since my "9 SS Panzerdivision - SOMEWHERE NEAR THE TRAIN STATION". project... 😠 Like we say in Portugal "What is born crooked, later or never straightens"😉 I've looked in all my extensive reference library for one in grey (just for excuse) and I think I never found one, hehehe. Nice to know you saw it with attention...
26 March 2015, 22:46

Hi Urban, I've look again and manage to do a new photoalbum with some strange coloured Panzerfaust's. Might after all not be an error??? 😮
27 March 2015, 00:42

Thanks a lot Matthias, it's a great compliment coming from you. I'm really glad that you like it...
27 March 2015, 01:07

Hi Rui.
Do you still have the instructions for the panzerkampfwagen V panther nr 30223 I have this kit but no instructions. If you have could you supply me with a copy.
Kind regards. Rod
24 August 2015, 21:05

Hi Rodders61, I have to scanner them. You can send me a PM with your email and when I can I will send you the PDF.
12 September 2015, 14:41

Thx mate. The photos are a bit hold, and don't show the finalized dio.
2 October 2015, 10:41

really fasntastic panther and great dio, really good
about those instructions, i would suggest that once you scan them you can upload them to the kit database, so other people in need may use them in the future😉
6 December 2016, 19:14

Hi mates,
Thank you all for your nice words & comments. Much appreciated.
As usual on my latest projects the photos aren't the final ones, but they show the idea...😢
@Spanjaard, I'm currently photographing my stash instructions to upload then in the future.
8 December 2016, 00:18

Thank you for your nice comments, John and Donald.
Much appreciated. Maybe one day I will take the final photos...😉
15 December 2016, 13:03

Thank you very much, Mates.
@Ulf, coming from an expert in dios, your comments feel like honey😉
18 December 2016, 19:57

Dag Rui, knap gedaan.

18 April 2021, 03:24

Mates. Thank you for all your kind comments and likes.
I thought this One had gone to Oblivion 😄
@ MarSeif, glad you like this work. After this photos i've made 3 more figures and some other bridge details.
@ Dietmar Bogatzki, I think I may take new photos of the finished dio.
@ Günther Decock, if you see the álbum of my first dio "My very first - project". I just used a wood plank gypsun and pepper 😄 in the second "9 SS Panzerdivision" I used a photo frame, coffe, hair net from my grandmather, and some vegetation.
@ DAVID Cuesta, obrigado pelo seu simpático comentário. Fico feliz por ter gostado. O prazer é meu. Quando tirar as fotos do trabalho concluido, o oficial já está acompanhado.
18 April 2021, 20:39

Thank you Spanjaard, very kind of you.
I will take photos of the new figures and the bridge detail I added after this photos.
18 April 2021, 21:19

Thank you for your nice comment Ben, I apreciate it very much.
Some Mobilphone photos are not so good. Sorry for that.
25 April 2021, 17:38

Thank you for your kind comment Ingo, I'm really glad that you like it.
26 April 2021, 18:59

Very nice work, love the amount of figures you've added, really brings the scene to life
27 April 2021, 06:37

Thank You very much for your comments, mates. (and for the likes too).
@ Jan, I thought (and write) in the Marder II D_16 Inf Mot Div_Rasputitsa_Kalmykiya album, that 14 figures where a alltime record, but afterall this one has 15 figures 😄
@ Neuling, glad you stoped by. I don't know how to work with photoshop, so Improvised and started to use the pc screen in the background 😉
@ playtime 222, It's great to read your comment.
@ Martin, I'm very glad you like it.
27 April 2021, 18:37

I don't recall seeing this one before... unless I'm going senile? LOL. Very nice dio mate and great job on painting that Panther a single colour, yet still making it look interesting 👍
12 May 2021, 17:05

Woh, some more kind comments from two excellent and most talented modelers.
I must be doing something right and nice 😉
@ James, judging by your work, one thing I'm sure senile you aren't. 🙂
Thank you both very much. I really really apreciate it.
12 May 2021, 19:04

Thanks Mate. Still so much to learn. But I'm happy that I'm finishing some old projects and practicing.
13 May 2021, 23:44

Thank you for your kind comment Peter. Coming from such a tallented modeler as you are, it feels really good 👍
22 May 2021, 21:32

Mind blowing in every detail. Another work of art! Bravo Rui. What's next?
22 May 2021, 22:00

Thank you for your kind words Mate. Apreciated.
I have also been thinking about what to do next 🤔
I still have two projects to complete. The Autumn 1944 Jagdpanzer Tiger (P) Elefant, with a horse and maybe two figures and the base and diorama for the Esci sdkfz 10/4.
But I'm also in the mood to build something, like a armoured car motorcycle or tank for the beginning of WWII ... Not feeling ready yet for a plane. I Don't know yet.
We'll see 😉
22 May 2021, 22:30

Well you know my thoughts but considering I know nothing about German armour or the European theatre I will wait to see what you come up with.
23 May 2021, 06:50

I like your approach to work. It is featured in documentary photos. Very few modelers do this. This is a classic quality style. Thanks for the compliment. Good luck and inspiration!
23 May 2021, 07:04

@Peter Hardy, please, share your thoughts with us 🤔
@Peter Batin, thank you again, I use that approach to see if I can and help making something more real. That's a defensive move from me 😉 but, I get the inspiration on those old photos. Some are unbelievable, and others great storytellers just by themselves
23 May 2021, 16:26

Rui, desert scene before the charge of the Australian Light Horse at Beersheba. Model Ts and horses.
24 May 2021, 06:21

Well Peter, I've started a horse for my elefant on the Outono / Autumn 1944 album, that's what i can do for now 😉
30 May 2021, 22:13

There were 800 horses Rui, maybe you should make some molds? Nobody will notice if you do two the same!
30 May 2021, 23:44

Thank you Mates. This is already a old work, but I apreciate your kind comments very much.
@ Vytautas, coming from a weathering Expert, I'm really honored.
@ Bruce, I'm very glad you like and comment it.
@ OttovonLindberg, I also enjoy and Respect your amazing work.
2 July 2021, 15:02

@ Peerke, Thank you for your kind comment. Not my most recent Dio but I sure enjoy a lot doing it.
@ David, Thank you very much for your comment. I'm really happy that you like it.
9 August 2021, 13:44

Hey Rui, knap gedaan. Een dio met een verhaal. Volgens de knepen van het vak. Als ik ooit aan een dio start kom ik zeker bij u voor raad.
24 October 2021, 19:56

Hi Günther, Thank you for your kind comment. I'm really glad you enjoy this one.
I look forward to see a dio from you soon and yes, you can count on me to help, if I know how 😉
24 October 2021, 22:08

It's incredible what you managed to accomplish with such an old kit. great job.
25 October 2021, 11:39

Thank you very much mates, your comments are most welcome.
@ Pedro, fico feliz por gostar e pelo termo usado 😄
@ grappa_0_0_0, That's what I've been trying to achieve, nice results with outdated materials glad you noticed 😉
@ Bobby, I'm glad you like my dio
@ Günther, be welcome, but I'm not sure why...
Also I would like to take the oportunity to thank all the likes from mates that i didn't correspond. Thank you all.
27 October 2021, 20:17

Very catchy and excellent in detailing and storytelling!!
Excelente Rui!!! Bravo 👍👍
27 October 2021, 21:52

Thank you for your kind words, mates. I apreciate it.
@David, glad you think so.
@Daniel, glad you stoped by and comment, this One. Comming from such a tallented modeler, your words mean a lot to me.
31 October 2021, 12:16

awesome
great effort and great job, I'm planning to build up a German panther D down the road, but I would never be that good to rebuild a story scene like you did.
21 November 2021, 13:10

Thank you Chan Li, I'm glad you like this one.
I'm sure that if you dig into it, you manage to choose the story and do a good dio.
21 November 2021, 13:14

That turned out into a nice diorama. Was fun to go through the progress.
21 November 2021, 15:45

Thank you very much mates. I apreciate your coments.
@ Alan, I'm very glad You stop by and like this one.
@ Robert, I just hope my dios evolve into something as near as possible to your magnificent dios. I'm really glad you enjoy my journy in this one, it means a lot to me. Thank you.
21 November 2021, 23:28

Thank you very much Rewop, I'm glad you like it and sotp by to comment it. Apreciated.
21 November 2021, 23:40

It really does look the bees knees. I've got a soft spot for winter dio's.
28 May 2023, 11:27

@ Mr James, thank you for your comment. This was my first attempt on that, and I know it could be improved a lot but I always prefer not to come back on old dios, to spend that time in doing other new kits and see the improvements
28 May 2023, 11:30

I wish I was more disciplined, I cant help but tinker as a go along. Probably why I have finished as the stuff I started.
28 May 2023, 11:39

I understand you, sometimes it's difficult not to come back, but another advantage is that at least you don't mess it up if it goes all wrong 😄
28 May 2023, 11:55

@ Ben, Thank you. Glad to receive your comment. Apreciated.
@ Clair Greenwood, Thank you so much for your kind comment. I'm very happy that you fell like so about this old one.
26 March, 16:57

Great diorama every angle something going on and I think doing a winter scheme that looks realistic is very hard but you nailed it well done 👏
1 26 March, 18:33

Every time I see a Rui diorama I loose a good 15 minutes just admiring the craftsmanship. The photo backdrop is a brilliant idea
1 31 March, 07:49

@ Major Oak, Thx a lot for your support. I'm glad you like this one. it was a bit like my Tunís - Panzer III N - Panzer II F - 251/1 Dio. It was growing over time, but in this case, only with regard to the amount of figures;
@ Doubtingmango, Thx for stoping by and comment this one. Glad you think so. I don't know how to work with photoshop, so I use a pc monitor to make the backdrop;
@ Andy, Thank you so much for your kind comment. I'm honored and hopping that you didn't completly "loose" your time, 😉 😄 but it´s great to know that you got some joy admiring my work.
31 March, 19:50

Great work! Would you recommend the Tamiya Panther kit you have been using or were the frustrations while building (other than the barrel)?
21 April, 19:11

Thank you Makariel, comment apreciated.
As to the tamiya Panther, I can only recommend it for the price you can find one nowadays.
It's a to simple build that you have to improve in lot's of aspects, so there are now much better kits for that one on the market.
21 April, 19:58

This is so realistic. Sometimes I get confused if it's a real picture or a diorama. Awesome work!
1 28 April, 15:39

Nice work! I really like how the figurines are painted. The weathering looks realistic too.
29 April, 20:28

@ Ryan L. thank you for your kind comment. Much appreciated. I've moderated the weathering, because the plate in photo 1 said so;
@ Evan H, thank you very much for stopping by and nice comment;
@ Dom S. thx, I'm very glad you like this one.

respect about those ,50 cal jackets, they look great. I think I would have probably look for brass barrels instead....
1 1 May, 23:06

Very nice start, I am in. Your work reminds me very much to my own adventure with the H version 🙂 Although I wasn't brave enough to use the PE barrels from Eduard's set and went to the easier way instead - resin and brass. Good luck, will be expecting your progress here.

I recommend changing the 'teaser' photo to one of the completed model, then more people are likely to notice your build. Photo number 28 would be much better.

I'll jump in for this one. That's gonna be a huge build! Obviously, lots of questions, but I'd rather see you build it, than type answers on here. Good luck mate 👍
18 June 2024, 19:58

Watching!
If I remember right I used the manual of this kit to find answers for my questions during the build of the Aerobase strip down.
Good luck and have fun with it!
18 June 2024, 20:17

Thank you for the comments!
Model is now completely finished and I am going to take some pictures of the result.
19 June 2024, 10:23

Hello everyone!!!
Just some new pictures.
I took so many pictures that I am going to make a youtube video of this. As soon as this video is online on Youtube I will post here!
20 June 2024, 17:14

Full built you can see on Youube
See Youtube video: Youtube Video

1 23 June 2024, 12:50

That, sir, is a formidable build!
At 80cm wingspan, it would definitely take over, my dining table!
I was honestly expecting around 60cm?
Kudos to you, for your efforts, and a medal should be awarded to your wife, for the countless hours, you dedicated, to the entire build 👍
1 23 June 2024, 21:12

Gotta be something going on with SM, Bob? I didn't provide a link or anything? It's a bloody awesome video though 👍
23 June 2024, 22:20

Oh I know, just being funny, been an on going issue for a few weeks now, but I read that the issue is being worked on.
23 June 2024, 23:02

Looks like a fun weekend project! 😎
Fascinating. Congratulations on a build that is a true museum piece! And the video was really nice as well.
Can you comment on the instructions, materials, rigging, propellers, etc. I think for people who are considering something like this, it would be nice to know what we might be getting into. "Goods and others" as far as the kit. It's too bad the kit makers don't provide a couple figures for a diorama.

While being on holidays last week I came across this kit in the local hobby store.
I was very happy to get it, but disappointment appeared when I looked at it more closely back home - Hasegawa kit with raised panel lines! 😮
So, I decided to give it a quick go, no rescribing included.
6 March, 20:18

Hi Łukasz! I had this kit, but I changed it when the Platz one came out. I'm sure this Hasegawa one will have a magnificent finish in your hands.
Nice cockpit 👍
7 March, 19:33

Thx, I believe Platz is way better, but after bringing it 9000kms back home, I decided to stop hunting for Platz, it's a very rare sight!
7 March, 21:06

Welcome mates!
Of course I wouldn't be myself if I haven't started adding some handmade details.
I try to restrict it to cockpit only so far 😄
I plan to start priming next.
12 March, 19:50

Wow, a model of an aircraft I haven't heard of! Will it be red and white like the photo?
13 March, 21:19

Love it and that camo will be interesting. Every time when I hear Fuji I think film cameras hah
1 14 March, 04:23

Welcome to my little white and red project.
Tomorrow I'm off for Bytom Scale Modelling Festival, but I hope to spray something on Sunday.
2 14 March, 15:45

Herzlich wilkommen JK 👍
I managed to spray some pink this evening, enjoy 🙂
15 March, 21:15

The plan was to highlight the raised panel lines with a pencil and wash the recessed ones with dark gray marker and then to cover everything in white until they're slightly visible.
I have the feeling my cunning plan worked so far.
18 March, 19:59

Clever trick with the pencil, I have a set of AK acrylic pencils, and I will definitely try them.
1 18 March, 20:52

Started decalling and well the decals' fit is poor if not worse- see the pics.
Luckily Signal Red marker by AK is almost the same shade of red. And the orange will be corrected using AK orange marker too.
2 22 March, 20:40

This is coming along quite nicely! Great save on the decal misalignment issue with the AK paints.
1 6 April, 08:33

Completed. Not very happy with the raised panel lines and the thick decals, but here it is.
Will add some daylight pics tomorrow.
1 30 April, 21:15

I honestly don't think you should feel unhappy with it - I think it turned out really attractive, even if it made you struggle a bit.
1 1 May, 09:27

Thank you gents, enjoy the sunny pics taken today 🙂
Well, it might look quite good, but I still feel a bit disappointed, I might have wanted something more Platz-like 😉

1 25 February, 07:16

Beautifully done diorama and very nice photos. Wonderful! Just the way Neuling does it so well! 👏👏👏

I just don't know how you do it - building such perfect pieces, laying them out on a beautifully haunting setting and arranging everything to tell a story is simply astounding! ❤️❤️❤️
1 1 March, 16:11

Awesome diorama and great setting. With thr background it adds a certain level of realism!
14 March, 04:26

It's all been said before but great storytelling diorama and the builds are excellent 👍
14 March, 07:56

The film camera effect makes it look like a war correspondent's photo. Nice work!
15 March, 06:08

Mine your step...! 🙂 Great scene again Neuling with your usual high build quality. I like the rubble.

One of my favourite Fiat's from the 1970's. You don't see many around in New Zealand any more as they have mostly rusted...

Nicely done, David, I don't think the rust problem is unique to New Zealand.
30 April, 12:33

Thanks George. You're right, the rust issue was everywhere. There's a beautiful late model 131 near me that somehow survived. It's so nice to see it driving around.

Thanks Bozzer. It is for a club monthly contest coming up on Villains. Elsewhere you will find my Joker Goon car. Harley Quinn (Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, PhD) a former psychologist who fell in love with the Joker during her internship at Gotham City's Arkham Asylum. She has transformed into the Joker's villainous accomplice Harley Quinn. Her relationship with the Joker is known for its abusive and codependent nature. Harley Quinn possesses multiple superhuman abilities, having won a gymnastics scholarship at Gotham City's Gotham State University. Harley Quinn is skilled in using various weapons, often employing weaponized clown-themed gag items, including pop guns, rubber chickens, and a gun that shoots a boxing glove, as well as oversized pistols and mallets, the latter being her signature weapon.

Very nice job. Good color combo. I built this one as a kid.
My brother and I played one on one demolition derbys with many/most of our models. We had a long hallway with oak floors. We would slide and smash them into each other from our end of the hallway. Whos ever engine fell out was the loser and the winner would get to keep the other ones smashed up model. My 56 was glued together with no paint. I won like 6 of his models before he finally won it by using rubber bands to hold his engine in. Technically it could have been considered cheating but we did not agree in advance that it WAS cheating.

Thank you very much! Unfortunately, there are a few issues... some decals have deteriorated over time, and the red stripe didn't turn out as it should have.

The idea is to make the sails closed, but unfortunately the experiment with the fabric I tried to use didn't turn out as I had imagined. I'll try with a softer fabric.

I've some Miniart dios in stash, so I decided to do something diferent for me.
1 3 July 2021, 18:06

I am booking my seat in the front row and will be following your progress.
3 July 2021, 19:40

Thank you for your vote of confidence and encouragement mates.
I Apreciate it and i hope I will not disappoint you.
3 July 2021, 21:13

Me too. I have two of these MiniArt building kits in the stash for two different dios. I'm looking forward to your progress.
4 July 2021, 02:26

Hi Rui, if you were to press this wall face down into something like Plasticine, and then pour the plaster onto the Plasticine, that might give you a crisper copy. Good luck with your experiments - I'm watching with interest (as these kits are not cheap....) 🙂
4 July 2021, 10:13

Thank you for your vote of confidence and encouragement. I'm very pleased to have you on board mates. Now I'm feeling the pressure growing 🙂
@ Bruce, Thank you for your tip. Yes, It seems quite easier to do it Plasticine. I don't have any at the moment but...🤔
I also decided to duplicate the plastic windows in wood. So I've always other alternate molds up to scale.
I will try to make some scaled bricks in modeling paste, and other stuff to improve the overall detail.
I'm hoping to enjoy the work on this little scene.
Let's see how it's going to workout 😎
4 July 2021, 10:29

Hi guys, pouring plaster in plasticine will soften the plasticine considerably (tried it), leaving you with a very difficult to clean plaster positive. I talked already of the Silicone & Cornstarch technique in another post. Here's a link to a YT clip: Youtube Video (as ever, the music sucks!) to show how easy this solution can be.
Hope to be of service... 😉

4 July 2021, 12:29

Thank you for your heads up and video, René.
It sure makes things easier to understand.
4 July 2021, 12:38

@ gorbygould, Thank you Mate. Apreciated.
I'm Hopping to do something about it, but I don't know how special it wil be 😄 😄 😄
4 July 2021, 15:01

The masters machinations. !
Make room for me on your brick fence there Rui. ! 🙂 👍
9 August 2021, 21:52

You know I'm always proud to get a master on board. So you know you are always most welcome, Kezza. The pressure is on, hehehe
9 August 2021, 22:11

Here is the reason why i will never be able to make a weekend model, at least with these old kits 😉
27 October 2021, 20:20

Good grief, that little bike model has more parts than some aircraft kits I've done.
It's looking good so far and I'm interested to see how this develops.
28 October 2021, 06:28

Thank you for your kind words mates, apreciated.
@Gorby, this is an old kit and could be more detailed. I hope you will like what I'm planing 😉
@Bruce, you're welcome. I hope it can help in someway, because you have more experience than me in Miniart dio kits 😉
31 October 2021, 12:10

I have a few motorcycles and bicycles in my stash, that I have put off attempting, as they have PE and tiny parts. Your added extras are encouraging me to make a start (when I am next in UK, and can get near my stash!)
31 October 2021, 13:44

This one, unfortunatly dosen't have PE spokes on the weels 🙁
Looking forward to see your next builds.
31 October 2021, 16:03

Me too, Rui! I have been away for eight weeks, and don't yet know when I will be home again. I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms....
31 October 2021, 20:22

Thank you for stoping by Villiers de Vos, I apreciate your comment 👍
I've finished the build and starting the paint work on the bike. More photos to follow 😉
6 November 2021, 17:26

Well come abord and thank you for your comment Jean-Michel Tilquin.
"Your order is my command" 😉 🤔 😄
7 November 2021, 13:37

Simply outstanding Rui. 👍 👍 👍
I am wondering about the crease in the drivers and pillions saddles, if that was hollow or left as you have it there. ?
14 November 2021, 06:30

Hi, Kezza. Nice of you to stop by and leave your kind and wise words. Always very much apreciated.
If I get you right, you are speaking about the holes in the seats?
That completely scaped my attention. I have to study that issue... Thx again
14 November 2021, 09:21

It will be getting a nice dio, i think!
Good detailed bike- good job on an old kit👍
14 November 2021, 09:38

Rui. I just did a Google search for BMW seats for WWII army type M/Cycles. And it looks like you have it right. The seat has no slots or open cavities. 😉
14 November 2021, 09:53

@Simon, thx a lot for commenting with encouraging words. I appreciate it.
@ Kezza It looks YOU are right Mate. I've looked at my research material and it seems they are mostly flat. I've seen one or two that have a slight depression on the front seat, but nothing so deep like in the kit.
Now I will have to further detail the seats 😄
14 November 2021, 10:48

Kezza, I've Uploaded two photos 😎 second bike on the Left in the first photo.
In the second the front seat, apear to have 3 recess 😎
14 November 2021, 11:11

Good spotting Rui. I wasn't being a smart ass. I genuinely wondered if they had the hole there for letting water drain away rather than pool, or cause a wet bum if you were not paying attention before you threw your leg over in a bit of a hurry to get away. (Just a thought mate. 😉)
14 November 2021, 17:33

Of course you weren't Mate, you never where a smart ass, I'm sure you don't intend to start now 😄 More so, because what you say makes total sense. We motorcyclistes know how bad it is when water arrives to your Balls 😄 but normaly this guys use rubber suites on the winter.
I thank your insight and headsup. I've decided to change only the back seat and i've done it already 😉
14 November 2021, 19:08

LOL. 🙂 I was only trying to be logical Rui. 😉
I am really looking forward to the progress images, as the final result will look so real, it will have us all opening our doors to let the engine fumes out. !!!! 👍 hehehehehe
15 November 2021, 02:53

😄 Me too Mate 😄
Thanks for your encouraging words. I hope I don't disappoint your expectations.
15 November 2021, 22:18

Very nice Rui, especially all the small details that you have added.
15 November 2021, 22:26

Thank you for your suporting words Villiers de Vos. Apreciated.
I didn't go the extra mile, but there is always space to further detailling 😉
16 November 2021, 20:55

Liking the realism all the extra wiring, etc brings 👍 Is that an ignition key too ?!!
21 November 2021, 08:29

That motorbike combo looks great, Rui; i hope you don't mind but i am going to copy your ideas as i have one of those combos waiting to be built and detailed.
21 November 2021, 09:47

Thank you mates, for stopping by and comment this album. A good motivation.
@ Villiers, Glad you are following, and like it, so far 😉
@ Bruce, when you pick an old kit you know you will have extra work to do, but I'm not going the extra mile because this is tiny (for me ofcourse). That piece it is not the key. I think, it is for tighten / loosen / lock ? the steering shaft? 🤔
@ Jim, Welcome abord, Be my guest. I'm flatered, you are more than welcome 😄
21 November 2021, 13:08

I'm not much of a fan of motorcycles in general, but your detailing and attention to detail with this build is fantastic 👍
21 November 2021, 23:56

What ever the season you choose Rui. I am sure you will do it justice my friend. 👍 👍 👍 🙂
22 November 2021, 00:40

a good job with the bike!
I also think that it still needs some dust and also on the floor of the sidecar
22 November 2021, 05:14

Thank you for your comments mates.
@James, In the past I've done a Tamiya ketenkraft, 9 SS Panzerdivision | Album by mig (1:35)
and I always look at it and think, "why didn't you made the cables??? 🙁" So this time I was more comitted.
@ Kezza, well this time I'm going for a dry season 😉 apreciate your encourgement
27 November 2021, 13:19

@ Simon, thank you for stopping by and comment. I'm going to try a soft urban dust weathering
@ Tini, I'm really glad you also like this litle thing.thanks a lot
@Olivier, Thanks a lot for your headsup. Apreciated mate.
I was so engrossed in building the bike that I didn't even go to see its production story. I already had a Dio in mind and now I have to change all the plans. I saw so many images of motorcycles invading Poland in 1939, that I was going for that. As you can see, I'm already thinking about the alternative, same context, same unit, but later in the war, 21/11/1941 – 27/11/1941.
27 November 2021, 13:33

Thanks Olivier I'm glad you concor 😉.
I'm going to extend the time frame a little from 04/10/1941 – 27/11/1941, so there are no more inconsistencies 😄
27 November 2021, 21:03

Thank you very much Bobby, I realy like it very much too and I'm not trying to be cocky. What I mean, is that I'm very happy with the result so far 🙂
28 November 2021, 17:07

When your work is constantly of such high quality Rui. You can afford to be cocky mate. 👍 👍 👍 😉
28 November 2021, 21:56

Hi Kezza, I know to well my limitations, so I prefer to be humble, (and believe me that's not false modesty) even more so, when I see the top modeling level here in scalemates. 🙂
29 November 2021, 22:33

Well Daniel, Thank you so much for your kind comment Mate. It means a lot to me, comming from a top modeler like you.
29 November 2021, 22:39

Hi Rui, it's looks like next exellent work 🙂. I will wait for final result.
2 December 2021, 12:12

Thank you, for your vote of cofidence, Artur. Apreciated.
After aborting the 1939 Poland dio project, I've to redirect the all thing. But I've a plan B in mind.
4 December 2021, 17:06

Thank you Mathias and Villiers de Vos, I'm very glad you like this one. A long way too go, but I'm very proud it took your attention.
19 December 2021, 14:57

I love the pose of the bike, I wouldn't change anything. The road and building are super objects by their simplicity
19 December 2021, 15:54

Thank you Jack. Nice of you to stop by and coment this one, Apreciated.
I see what you mean but I want to make an efort to do this dio more real, like I always try, and so y see that I still have lot's of work to do. 😉
P.S. Owh, and the Rommel unfinished figure, is just a touch for scale purpose.
19 December 2021, 21:43

Some update photos, of the third kit for the dio.
My first Alan/Dragon Kit (definitely not for beginners).
Scratch on Zis truck, started 🙂
24 July 2022, 10:59

That does look like a very challenging kit. Fortunately your skills can easily master it.
24 July 2022, 12:40

Thank you for your kind words Mate.
Well, the kit is bad enough yep, but I'm challenging my scratch build with it, so I'm hoping to make something interesting out of it with spares and trash that I've accumulated in the man cave 😉
24 July 2022, 23:59

This is the state that the transformation from Zis 5 (Zavod imeni Stalina 5) to PMZ-1 (Zis-11) special chassis developed for the fire departmant, is currently in.
It's a Autopump on a Amo-4 (Awtomobilnoje Moskowskoje Obschtschestvo-4) chassis, from Miusskaya fire engines plant almost in the center of Moscow.
PMZ-1 also (ПМЗ-1) or (ЗИС-11) is the first model of this plant, realeased in 1934. This fire truck had a engine power of 55kW, a load capacity of 3 tons, was designed for 12 people, equiped with a centrifugal pump that suplied 1340l/min, and a tank for 360 liters of water to extinguish fire.
9 August 2022, 21:26

Thank you very much for stopping by and comment, Villiers de Vos. You are to kind Mate. But yeah, I'm enjoying it a lot.
13 August 2022, 00:21

Very nice and detailed build, thank you for very helpful photos and comments. Can you suggest me, please, some good source to learn how (from which point to where) to draw cables in German BMW and Zundapp bikes, please? Your pictures are detailed, but sometimes I´m not sure, which cable is it, in other picture.
Thank you very much.
22 August 2022, 12:20

Thank you miloss for your words.
Well, my album is certainly not the best place to understand how to put wires and cables in the BMW.
I did my wiring by looking at a lot of images of this motorcycle available on the internet and also some knowledge acquired since I was little because I have always ridden motorcycles.
I'm not an expert or rivet counter but I can say that there are always n cables, some electrical and others steel, that connect, for example, the levers to the brake hub on the front wheel and to the clutch. then there's the accelerator that goes to the carbs, there's also the speedometer cable that goes from the front wheel to the dial.
Then do we have electrical cables that go for example from the spark plugs on the pistons to the alternator? and all the lighting cables coming out of the battery, to the front and rear lights, etc.
So if you want to get it perfect what I can advise is a lot of research on the net maybee try to find the diagrams of the complex electric systems and also on YouTube, there are lots of this bikes with lot's of fan's still nowadays, so you will find What you're looking for. I hope this helps, a bit 😉
22 August 2022, 20:30

Hi Rui,
thank you very much for your answer. I´d like to accentuate, that your amount of pictures, done during building of models is not usual in positive meaning of words, and so I´m really grateful for it. My intention was not to diminish your effort, only to point to my lack of knowledge and ability to fully use them for my own education. And yes, my question is a part of my searching on internet for good source of information. Different of you , although I´m not a young boy already, I´ve never ridden a motorbike. Actually I started to like motorbikes (old veterans I mean) only since my , let´s say, upper age. 😮 🙂 So I have to learn a lot. I love books, but they can be expensive and to buy something and then realize it was not worth money is not optimal way of learning ... but it´s also learning, isn´t it? 🙂
Thank you very much, have a nice day!
23 August 2022, 09:44

Hi miloss,
Thx again. I didn't understand your comment as derogatory, quite the opposite.
I appreciate the same and apologize if my answer or English words chosen were or sound arrogant, as that was clearly not my intention so i'm hoping no harm done.
I understand What you mean and I'm sending you a private message so I can try to help a little more and talk about the matter at hand 😉
23 August 2022, 12:48

Hi Rui,
thank you very much! No harm was dome, don´t worry! I´m also not very clever speaker in English, it´s much better in Slovak, I think. 🙂 The way of thinking and speaking in my language is different comparing to English - there are some cultural differences, what´s OK, but can cause difference in what wanted to be told and what was told. 🙂Thatś why I´m not always sure, how my questions sounds to other people. And I don´t want to be rude (without reason). 🙂
Thakk you very much for your PM.
Keep well!
Miloš
24 August 2022, 15:35

Hi miloss,
Ok, nice, for me would be better in Portuguese 😄 otherwise misunderstanding can always happen, and hey, you're younger than me 😉
Cheers.
25 August 2022, 13:21

If the main language of Scalemates was Portuguese, Slovak etc. I wouldn't have a clue what was going on. Everyone on here who speaks English as a second language deserves respect from those of us who use it as our native tongue. In fact, it's often embarrassing when many of you write English far better than many of the English.
Rui: your scratch building on the truck is excellent. I love the way you made the back fenders/mudguards.
1 26 August 2022, 14:21

Hi gorby,
let me ask you, please:I see that you started Panzer Soldiers Set 1. Are you able to remove molding lines of miniatures and do not destroy all details around, please? Because I´m not. So I would really appreciate some advice, how to do it. I tried thin cement, to freeze it and use low temperature, to use acetone, and, of course, sand paper, scalpel and razor blade. Razor blade works, but it´s too big to use it in area around delicate details.
Thank you very much.
Cheers!
26 August 2022, 16:44

@ gorby, thank you for your words and understanding. One thing I'm sure, my English is rough and I wish I had your sense of humor, or at least be able to transmite mine in English as perfect as you do with your 's in all your álbums, like the introduction words of your panther 1/48 project.
Let me introduce you to my first and ONLY attempt to model a tank with a full interior. | Album by gorby (1:48)
Outstanding. I always laugh and enjoy reading your comments.
As to the fenders I think we both have that improvisation in common, right? So Thx again.
@ Miloss, I think you should ask gorby about his project's on his albums. Please don't get me wrong. I don't mind you doing it here, but I thing it's fare enough if you you do it in Gorby albums, they surely deserve it.
Btw I never was able to remove 1/72 figures seam lines
So thank you both.
26 August 2022, 23:25

Hi Miloss, the Panzer soldiers set is my first experience of Orion figures and I was quite impressed with them, they are the best 1/72 figures I've tried. Mine only had a faint seam line on most of them although there was a few which needed trimming. I found a sharp scalpel used with a sawing action worked well enough and then, if that left a rough patch I used Tamiya Extra Thin. Do you know that you should prime the figures before painting with diluted PVA glue? I used plastic primer on top of that as well. I hope that helps.
Thanks you for your kind words Rui. It's particularly pleasing as I had to re-learn to speak and write after a stroke 18 years ago.
Isn't Scalemates a lovely place? 🙂
27 August 2022, 08:40

Hi guis, thank you very much for your answers and sorry for my question placed on not correct place. I'm really not a fan of social medias and my knoleadge of the manners there are really poor. I felt the post similar to Room of discussing people and I wanted to use opportunity to ask someone who is present there. But you are right, no doubts, and I know how to do it correctly, next time. 😁🤔👍 Thanks.
Cheers!
P S.: I tried Extra Thin glue and scalpel, but with poor success. But I didn't know anything about diluted PVA. Thanks!
30 August 2022, 12:42

@Gorby, I'm sorry to know about your misfortune but very Glad that you recover very well from that stroke Mate.
I'm 100% with you, scalemates it's a lovely place 👍
So Keep safe.
@Miloss, I'm sure, no harm done. 🙂
Cheers
30 August 2022, 21:37

Great craftsmanship Rui. Two major projects in one build! The Zundapp looks wonderful and I am sure the ZIS will too very soon. Looking forward to seeing the next steps.
7 September 2022, 17:15

@Neil thank you very much for your kind words and for stopping by and comment. Yah I'm back from holidays and I've to restart working on this project. It will be a long one as all my other work but hopefully I will manage to do something that will make me proud.
P.s. it's a BMW 😉
Thank you Tom Harris (MHBeergeek) for the 53 like. Much Apreciated
10 September 2022, 20:56

You're welcome Rui. Duh, How did I make that mistake? I think I was probably just too distracted by the fine detailing! 🙂
11 September 2022, 08:50

Thank you very much Neil.
No harm done 😄 on the contrary.
Thank you tom svk-atfor the 54 like. Much Apreciated
11 September 2022, 13:01

Thank you Jac Fleming for another 54 like on this album. And Hang Li fot the 55...or should I say the 56 🤔
Much Apreciated
17 September 2022, 11:30

Fantastic scratch build elements!
Really like them, they´re looking great 👍
I'm already curious how it will look finished.
17 September 2022, 12:03

Remarkable work,
congratulations for the detail work on the vehicles.
17 October 2022, 12:16

Is that a water pump in the back of the ZiS? Amazing level of detail and scratchbuilding Rui!
17 October 2022, 12:32

Will this give us frost bite Rui. ? 😉
I can imagine all kinds of scenarios and blood in the snow is one of them, if a field ambulance is required. 👍
What are you using for the bolts that will be holding all your timber add on's. ?
Brass pin nails like the naval modellers use for their planking are good. :-/
Love your work mate. 'No covid blues here' obviously. 🙂 👍
Cheerz .😉
25 October 2022, 23:27

@Simon, thank you for your comment and vote of confidence. I'm also very curious how it will end 😉
@Pietro, thank you for stopping by and your kind words. Appreciated.
@John, thank you very much, I can say that you nailed it.
@Villiers, you are to kind Mate. Thank you.
@James thx Mate .I'm really glad you like it.
@Kezza, my friend, thank you for stopping by and comment. I'm really glad to hear from you Mate. Hope everything is good now.
Well, I'm trying to keep some secret about this one, but I can say that, yes it will have blood (but not on the snow), and that John as raised the tip of the veil 😉 😄
You know I'm not a rivet counter, so I think this will not need any visible bolts.
I also would like to thank all the 60 mates that pressed the like in this one and also on my other albums. Appreciated
26 October 2022, 20:40

Start working again on this project, and the mojo comeback 🙂
Also thanks for the new likes. (thx to all 63 mates).
15 November 2022, 23:07

Rui, it simply stated work of the highest standard. I am glad you have your mojo back.
What is the kind of tape that you used to make the hoses please?
16 November 2022, 03:48

Hi Villiers, thank you for your kind words Mate. I've used it before in my project
Outono / Autumn 1944 | Album by mig (1:35)
To simulate zimmerit.
It is used by wall painters when they have to mask out circled areas. it allows you to extend (straighten) one side while keeping the other side short and rough.
And yes, I'm such a slow modeler that I also really enjoy when I'm motivated.
@ ribellinu, Thank you for the 64 like. Appreciated
16 November 2022, 11:44

Starting the bodywork, paintjob. Complitely noob on shiny paint work... The only gloss kit I have is a 1/72 Kubelwagen from centurys ago when I only had some clossy paints and brushes.
Some dry fiting test also.
Getting ready for the marriage.
@ Villiers de Vos 👍
@ DaveTheGun, Thank you for the 65 like. Appreciated

22 November 2022, 06:13

@ Kyle thx again, you are to kind.
@ Mathias, thank you very much for your kind comment. Don't we all seek that impossible aim 😄. ? Much appreciated comment.
@ Villiers de Vos, thx for your support & motivating comments Mate, you are so kind.
And thank, Viacheslav (touristTula) & Dmitry Melnikov (Ditrich) for the 2 new likes, 70.

@ Riho, Thank you for your interest and comment. I hope you will find this interesting till the end. Obrigado 😄
@ James, Thank you for your comment. Apreciated. My redemption from ZIS - 11 or PMZ - 1, is nearing completion.
And thank you Dmitry Melnikov (Ditrich); Raditz; Neil (djferrisbueller) and Mark K (Ladislas) for the new Likes. (74).
I've uploaded some more scratch detail work on the kit. I Hope you find it interesting, I sure enjoyed doing it a lot.
29 November 2022, 23:45

Very nice work so far. It is a joy studying the small details in each photograph.
30 November 2022, 05:16

As always. It's a trip back in time and a great rendition of that moment in time. Then, there is the detail. Thanks for the pleasure you give us all when admiring your skills.
None better. 👍 🙂
30 November 2022, 08:04

@ Villiers de Vos, thank you for your kind comment and continuous suport, very apreciated. I'm really glad you like the detailing.
@ Kezza, thank you my friend. you are without a doubt one of my main mentors here. It was with you and through your albums that I learned a lot, and I even tried to use your sharing methods in my Albums. It is fair and deserves my respect and public recognition for what I am saying. I am far from reaching your heels but your support from the beginning was one of the reasons that led me to try to do more and better. so thanks for your support. for me it means a lot and I am always proud of your comments. Thank you for your unconditional friendship, without it I would not be what I am in scalemates.
P.S. if I'm something at all. One thing I'm sure, I'm for ever grateful to you.
1 December 2022, 03:10

Now lifting one more edge of the veil, reveling a little more about this project, I leave you with Sturmbannführer Kurt Meyer (nicknamed "Steel Fist") , commander of the motorized reconnaissance battalion "SS Leibstandarte" memories, about that noon on Wednesday, October 8, 1941:
(...)- My armored car drove into a round city square. Trams were moving in our direction, and trucks, horse-drawn carts and hundreds of people were spinning around. My armored car almost ran into a fire truck, the driver of which stopped in confusion. The second armored vehicle, which was following mine, suddenly opened up with a whole hail of fragmentation shells, and the fire truck, frozen in front of me, was literally torn in half!
Next, the machine guns of our motorcyclists rumbled, echoing with an eerie echo somewhere in the courtyards of the houses surrounding us. (...)
1 December 2022, 03:28

Your skills and perseverance are simply impressive, Rui. Keep it up!
19 December 2022, 05:40

Thank you very much for your comment and encouragement Robert, much appreciated.
The clean and shiny version (Diecast type with a little accident) of the fire truck is almost finished.
I just need to take more photos.
19 December 2022, 21:23

As always. Your skills and attention to the details have shon through mate. Well planned and executed. 👍 👍 🙂
What will next year bring I wonder. ? hehehe
More surprises no doubt. 😉
Happy New Years too mate.
29 December 2022, 22:32

Hi Kezza, thanks for your nice comment. Apreciated.
You Know mate, I realy fell proud doing this original, never saw one built, so... 😉
Anyway, at the start of the new year I want to finish this dio, so let's see how long it will take 😄
Best wishes to you and a Great and Healthy New Year 👍
29 December 2022, 22:58

WOW! The fire truck is fantastic Rui! Up there with the best modelling I've seen on Scalemates.
30 December 2022, 09:37

@ Villiers, thank you very much for your comment and kind support. Happy 2023, Mate.
@ Kyle, thank you for your comment, glad you like it.
@Gorby, thx a lot for stoping by and comment. You are to kind mate. I know very well your scratch skills and originals, and I also know I'm still some miles away from the best modelling here, but always learning on each project and so, improving.
@ Mathias, thank you very much for your kind comment. Apreciated, and it means a lot.
Thank you also for the new likes and to all, Happy 2023.
2 January 2023, 23:08

Frankenstein at work. This was easy the poor guy was already dead. Last figure worked out.
15 January 2023, 02:18

Nice work Dr. Frankenstein! Very realistic pose of an unfortunate participant.
15 January 2023, 02:21

Thx a lot John. Apreciated.
Yap, obviously some work still to be done, but I'm also quite happy with the pose.
15 January 2023, 02:25

Started the new challenge. Making a good interesting scratched base.
For those interested in this historic events or If someone wants to know more about this episode, you can translate from this interesting UKRAINE site:
dniprovsky-project.b..om/2021/07/1941.html
It also has a video, but unfortunately without subtitle's.
29 January 2023, 02:25

I am still nailed to my chair. Following each development, big and small with great interest.
29 January 2023, 18:18

Thank you very much Villiers de Vos, I realy apreciate your resiliance 😄 and the endeless suport. Thx a lot.
I've finished the scratched Tram Pole, it's ready for painting 😉
Another small detail but one less to do in all the scratch work I've been doing in this project.
They sure take double time, old fashion work, from finding the right pieces and work them to a viable result, at least for my hapiness.
29 January 2023, 22:42

Start the work on the dio base.
I also want to thank all the new likes on this album. Apreciated.
9 February 2023, 21:50

That cobble stone road looks fantastic! The manhole cover and tram lines are a nice touch as well 👍
19 February 2023, 22:51

Well mates, I love this hobby yes, but with the kind words of support from such talented friends, I enjoy it even more.
Thank you all, I really fell great with such comments, they help me endure any hardship I encouter. Let's see if I can keep up with the standards.
Thank you also for the new likes.
20 February 2023, 22:27

Rui. I do hope that all those cobble stones came in a packet mate. But knowing how enthusiastic and fussy you are about your work. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you hand picked them from some construction site. 🙂 🙂 But as always. Your the best. 👍 👍 😉
2 March 2023, 13:59

Just catching up with your amazing project Rui. Quite apart from the fantastic modelling, it was great to see the photos from this event all in one place. I think most of us have seen some of them before, but the books I have seen them in do not give much context or info about the actual events they depict.. Your extra research makes the whole project historically fascinating too. Great work!
5 March 2023, 09:55

1. in my little opinion, as a rule, there is always a puddle from the inner thread of the rail of the tramway, or it dries up or has just formed 2. too clean street too clean path. although I myself love cleanliness, it's hard to achieve cleanliness on the street for a number of reasons independent of each other
9 March 2023, 23:43

Some progress done, I've start painting figures and weathering the tram pole, truck, and a bit more on the bike.
@ Pietro, Thank you, glad you like the base. Still work to be done but I'm happy the way its going,
@Kezza, Thx Mate. The cobble stones had already appeared in this album (photo 18). They came from a beach in Algarve.
@Neil, Thx mate. Yap this events are very well documented, as i discovered with the progress in my research.
I also would like to thank Austin Steenkamp; Lothar29 and all the new mates that pressed the like botton. Apreciated.
Still a lot of work to finish the dio, but I've now a glyinps of the final result.
26 March 2023, 00:49

The motorbike and crew is a beautiful little gem. The wear and tear on the backrest of the sidecar is a nice touch.
26 March 2023, 09:25

Amazing crew and motorbike Rui!
I'm so sorry, from the bottom of my miserable modeling and cultural historical skills I would never allow myself to give advice but if the scene is set in Mariupol during the Battle of the Sea of Azov in 1941 the BMW R75 if I'm not mistaken was not yet available for the German Army, the model available at the time was the R12.
Anyway great work, congrats!
27 March 2023, 12:50

@Pepe, thx
@Mathias, thank you for your support, I hope you are right.
@Robert, thanks for your kind comment. I was nicely surprised on how fast they got into this result. I think they are well sculpt and has they say, when you have that one's "they paint themselves easily"?
@Guy, I'm glad you think so. Thank you for that
@Shar, welcome and thank you for your comment and like. I'm also hoping in the end, to have that nice overall impression to be satisfied with all the effort applied on it.
@Villiers de Vos, what to say to your always motivating comments, thx a lot? I'm glad you noticed that soft weathering too. Apreciated
@Pietro, thank you. I'm pleased you like the R75 and crew. Has to the historical accuracy I will respond next.
@James, your comment is always very apreciated. I know and recognize the high quality of your work, so it's most rewarding to see you stopping by. Thx
27 March 2023, 23:00

Now Pietro, you probably right, that it should be a R12, but has you can see the matter was already discussed up in this album with Oliver early in 23 November 2021.
When I started the BMW I only had the idea of making something different from what I had been doing, than I thought about Poland invasion but that was a blunder has Oliver pointed out. So I changed plans and look for a date when the BMW was already running. And 1941 was the beginning of that.
In BMW Group Archive, I found that:
In 1941 the production of civilian motorcycles was stopped. Germany was at war and production was adjusted to the needs of the Wehrmacht. BMW motorcycles have always been popular with authorities - and thus also with the military. Single-cylinder models were used as light courier and training machines, and the R 12 was delivered to the Wehrmacht as a side car.
However, the war policy of the Germans required a motorcycle Side car that could be safely mastered on any surface - mud, ice, gravel, desert sand - and that required only little maintenance even at extreme temperatures and heavy loads. In addition, the motorcycle should also be able to cope with longer distances at low marching speeds without any problems.
No German motorcycle manufacturer had such a machine in their range, which is why a special development order was placed with BMW and Zündapp. In the winter of 1938, BMW began work on this project based on the R 71 engine. The beams of the bolted tubular frame were divided. This enabled the engine to be installed and removed quickly, as the lower frame part could simply be folded away. A rear wheel suspension was omitted for better stability. But while the frame proved itself during the test drives, there were thermal problems with the side-controlled motor in off-road use and on longer trips at walking speed. So BMW developed a new engine.
The result was a 750 cc unit with an output of 26 hp at 4000 rpm. The engine developed an enormous torque and, since it had a very low compression ratio of 5.8:1, it could also easily tolerate poor-quality or synthetically produced fuel. In contrast to the R 71 engine, no heat problems occurred during testing, so that the R 75 could go into series production in 1941.
And
Series production of the R 75 begins
date from07.1941.
Description
In July 1941, the first R 75 sidecars rolled off the assembly line in Munich. However, after production was relocated from Munich to Eisenach in June/July 1942, the majority of the R 75 was manufactured in Thuringia. The R 75, with seven forward and two reverse gears and a powered sidecar, was specially developed and produced for the German Wehrmacht.
27 March 2023, 23:05

So my conscience his ok with using this kit has eventually a single replacement new side car in October, for the first SS division formed based on the Hitler personal bodyguard regiment ( probably with a great influence) in theory it could be possible?. Has said already above in this album I'm not a rivet counter (I can't read the licence plate in one of the reference photos, the one that looks like a Zundapp?...just joking 😉) and my dioramas don't intend to be historically correct they simply aim to be ideas historically based, with lots of the so called "artistic" liberty.
Anyways Thx again for your comments. I apreciate them all.
27 March 2023, 23:21

Awesome progress Rui, I love the expressions on those motorcyclists' faces 👍
29 March 2023, 22:29

Motorbkes and bikes are fiddly models to do,so well done on this one
1 April 2023, 20:50

Hi Rui. 🙂 🙂 🙂 I have just finished browsing through you work using the mosaic view and pulling up the ones I saw that showed the detail you included.
It took a LONG time to do as every image had something of interest and wonderment included.
No need to say your attention to detail is superb, as I have said it every time I see your work, especially with the images of the original scenes in black and white you have used to help you define that moment in time.
It takes a while before the smile on my face goes after seeing what you have accomplished.
It really is hard to separate the final results from the images you used as reference material.
That is some skill you have my friend and there is not one build I have seen of yours that one can find any sub standard workmanship.
Your skills and abilities are truly something special mate.
Thank you for all the years of enjoyment and inspiration. 👍
Cheers good buddy. 🙂 👍
1 2 April 2023, 00:07

@Alec k, thank you, glad you think so and like them and yes this figures are well sculpted.
@Gary, thank you for stopping by and comment. Apreciated. Not the best motorcycle kit in the market I think but it was a nice kit to build and improve. Thank you for your like too.
@Kezza, my friend, your words put a big smile on my face. Thx a lot Mate, coming from a Master makes me feel very proud. Also Knowing that my work was interesting enough for you to have all that work and time spent looking at it ... Yap makes me feel Great and motivated for doing better every time.
I know I should be more selective in chosing the lot of photos I upload but as I've a lot of work in improving the old models I find difficult not to share that in here, so I end up uploading more than I should, but hey, that's just one of my disabilities.
I really enjoyed reading your comment. Thx again good Yoda 😉
3 April 2023, 23:23

Hi Rui. 👍 I am pleased to know you 'rescue' some of your builds. 🙂 I have from time to time pulled a few off death row and repatriated them to their former glory. Just as much fun as unpacking them for the first time. 🙂 Right now, I am eying off the Erickson Sky Crane from ICM in 1/35 scale. But I want to do it as the 'Elvis' fire fighter. Bright orange with a huge tank slung under the rotor and engine assy. Almost $300.00 AU. But with the war in Ukraine, it's understandable. Also. I am eagerly awaiting the 1/35 Mi-28 'Havoc' Russian attack helicopter from Meng. The 1/72 scale was a shit model. Happy Easter my friend. BTW. I meant every word about your skills and abilities. You have given me so many ideas and tips without saying a word. 😉
6 April 2023, 09:36

Hi Kezza, I think I didn't express my self correctly as sometimes occour. I meant old kits and not, my old models. That ones I never go back and touch them, not because i don't fell that urge, it's more because they tell the story of my skills at the moment I built them and so I like to see what progress I'm geting from newer experiences. So I let them stay like they where when I finish them. Also, I've so many kits in stash that I prefer to start a new project from scratch. If not I always consider that a model his never completelly finished, so it would be a never ending process arround the same subject, plus you know I'm a very slow modeler. I always have to enjoy one less on the stash.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to see you Back in Action Mate, I missed that for a long time now, so I'm eager to study your new albums. Please, go for it, you know my scale is 1/35; 1/32 right👍
Happy Easter to you too, my friend and thx again for your kind words, they are always most welcome. I'm really happy to know that my work still has some tips for the interested mates, that makes me try harder to work better, (and ofcourse some abuse in uploading it) 😄.
@ FTilhonLinden, Thank you very much for your kind comment. Much apreciated and I'm really glad you like my work here.
7 April 2023, 12:27

I did misunderstand, but 'no foul' as they say. hehehehe I am looking around for a display case that will take all my 1/32 scale birds and choppers, those being the 'Super Stallion, the Apache, and four Ju-87's and Skyraider, but with the two future additions, I will be pushing for space to put the case too. :-/ Not long now before I have the confidence to tackle an other big project. It's been a while. 😉
9 April 2023, 03:33

That is a very nice BMW Combination, kudos on your figure painting. The dio' looks pretty nifty too.
16 April 2023, 09:29

I know its been mentioned by others, but your attention to detail and the documentation of your process, is very impressive Rui. It inspires me to build the R12 in my stash to your standard. I will be referencing your work when the time comes and for that I thank you. I was really impressed by the painting of the bike riders. They wonderfully painted and the expression on their faces you brought out, is superb. The scratch building of the fire truck is a stand out and the cobbled street is beautifully painted. Bloody good work Rui 🙂
1 19 June 2023, 23:01

Mr James says it all. - To me picture 313 seems to show the completed diorama. More photos would be more than welcome!
1 21 June 2023, 08:21

This has been great following along with. A really stunning result. The attention to detail has been next level across the board.
21 June 2023, 20:36

It's all been said above... Superbly detailed and the figures are really realistic.
Like Neuling, suggested, more photos with a cleaner background would make your dio more justice! Congrats, Rui!
22 June 2023, 12:32

This is a very titanic work ... I am delighted with the realization of this idea! You are an incredible cool modelist because this work is truly difficult. I am pleased that you have chosen the subject of Mariupol because it is the city of my student years. Thank you for it! I will look forward to new works!
28 June 2023, 12:03

Hi guy !! I'm very impressed by your face painting.. It looks sooo human !!!!! 👍👍👍
10 September 2023, 13:32

As mentioned some time ago, I would like to respond and thank all the last comments that have been posted here, now that I've resumed this project and hadding it to completion.
I intend to emphasize the great appreciation I have for all of them and so, responding to everyone:
@Kerry COX, Kezza my friend, I hope you are well. Thank you very much for your unconditional support, which was one of the reasons why I always continued to work and present my dios here and always try to do my best to reach your level. I look forward to seeing a new project of yours;
@Mark Sherwood, Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'm so glad you like this dio. The BMW is a really nice kit, although the Italeri always needs some work, but it's worth it IMHO;
@ Mr. James, Thank you very much for your kind and encouraging comment. Appreciated. The details make the difference as they say, so it makes sense to spend time executing them. I highly recommend making a sidecar, as mentioned above, it is a small piece, but in itself it is worth many larger ones. As for the figures, they almost painted themselves, the molds were so good. I'm glad you liked my scratch work too. As for the street, the stones came from a beach in Algarve;
@Villiers de Vos, Thx a lot for your nice comment. Always appreciated;
@Neuling, Thanks for commenting on this work of mine. Photo 313 is just another one of the work in progress. As I love sharing all my work and details here, you already know that my albums have a lot of photos. But yes, I can say that I will be happy to continue presenting more, until the final result, which by the way, is almost arriving;
@Kyle DeHart, Thanks so much for stopping by. I appreciate that you enjoyed the development of this dio. The final result is to be shared soon. I hope you will like it;
@Jean-Michel Tilquin, Thank you, it is a pleasure to read your words here, as I know the quality of your Dios. The photos still represent WIP, but as mentioned above, this work is in its final stages. Stay tuned;
@Lawrence Landis, I'm really glad you like my work so much. Thank you very much for your comment;
@Kyrylo, Thank you. It was really a leap in the dark for me. I always wanted to make a sidecar with every possible detail and the fire truck came along the way and it was really captivating.
Your words are really kind as they reflect all the effort I put into this work. The fact that you are directly involved with this city makes me even happier, as I intend to make this work a tribute, to all the martyrs of the invasions it suffered.
@Walton, Thx for stoping by and comment. Appreciated
@Villiers de Vos, thank you. Yes, as mentioned above this work is in the final stages. New photos are added:
-New fire truck details and weathering, (including battle damage and the flat tire), as well as street weathering.
- Missing the finalization of the figures and the base corner, and the final weathering on the sidecar.
P.S. Hi Mika, I apreciate your comment. Glad you like it. The final result is shortly in sight 😉
3 14 April, 15:44

Thank you Villiers de Vos, but I've been at my wortable finishing two "shelf queens" :
- Outono / Autumn 1944_Jagdpanzer Tiger (P) Elefant;
- Esci sdkfz 10/4.
But yes, now finishing this one and thinking wich one I'm going to pick froms stahsh next 🤔
I´ve finished the base corner.
15 April, 10:08

@ Gorby, Thanks a lot. I'm so glad you think so, it envolved a lot of commitment 😉
@ CaptGPF, Thank you very much for your comment. As we say "better late than ever" 😄 and always apreciated.
The motorbike and figures are now finished and in place. One big step closer to the finish line.
1 17 April, 00:24

I'm taking the train on the way,😬 how could I have missed this incredible work...😶🌫️ I have no words for it...🤔 except waaaw 🤩🤩
17 April, 04:21

@ Lebloge, Welcomw abord, we are reaching the end station 😄 Thx a lot for your comment. Apreciated;
@ Villiers de Vos, I want to express my depest apreciation for all your suport on this project. It was very important and motivating for me, so Thank you very much for all your kind comments.
Now, finishing the weathering and last details on the fire engine.
17 April, 15:21

What a dio show Rui is coming out with,
the bike and the bikers are really fascinating!
I have them in my stash too,
when one day I get around to making them I hope they look at least a little like yours!
17 April, 16:03

It's great to see this awesome project inching toward the finish line Rui. It's gonna be epic 👍
18 April, 11:57

@ Pietro De Angelis, wow, such words and praise fill me with joy and pride. Thank you so much for your comment. I'm sure your work on the subject will be great;
@ Alec K, Thank you so much for your kind comment. I don't know about the epic thing but I'm just hopping I will not let you down.
Add some detail photos of the finishing work on the fire engine, that I'm happy to say, it's now finished.
1 18 April, 12:41

Fantastic work Rui, I'm pleased you've completed it.
Some photos of the entire diorama would be good. 👍
18 April, 14:26

@ Mathias Decommere Thank you for your nice comment and your suport. Always much apreciated.
@ Gorby thx again. I'm glad you think só and also that I finally finished this important Dio for me. I'm currently doing a loonnngggg photo shutting session for this one, as I intend it to tell the story as truthful as I can. Please stay tuned, because now start another phase of it.
1 18 April, 17:38

I concur with Gorby, looking forward to seeing the dio' in it's entirety. The snaps and snippets show some excellent work. A testament to your skills.🤘🥸🤟
19 April, 09:18

@ Mark Sherwood, thank you so much for your kind comment, it means a lot to me;
@ Gary Curling, Thank you for stoping by and for the nice comment, always apreciatted. The weathering on the fire truck was done at late hours, after a nicelly "watered" dinner and so I think I was going a bit to far covering almost all the shiny surfaces with residues from the botton of my syintetic diluent jar. I was experimenting (and taking a bit of a risk, because although the base paint for the red gloss was acrylic, the one for the black gloss was also synthetic, but it had dried a long time ago.) but it seemed to work so I carried on. Afterwards I had to clean it a bit more because I felt it was to dirty, but the original photos also shows a dirty fire engine so,... I now let the mates judge.
I upload now, the requested photos. 365 birdseye view of the completed dio. I Hope it dosen't desapoint anyone.
21 April, 15:48

Outstanding work Rui. A very accurate representation of the original photographs.
21 April, 18:18

Breathtaking! Fantastic work and fascinating to see you create this step by step 🙂
21 April, 19:04

Agree with Matthias - sublime work! I thought your previous diorama with the horse was hard to top, but you outdid yourself! ❤️❤️❤️
22 April, 15:52

This turned out great Rui!
I love dioramas made after an existing photograph.
23 April, 08:04

It could have been a static scene, but the poses of the infantrymen created tension. Nice work! 👏👏👏
24 April, 12:27

Great result Rui! 👍 I need to start dios at some point, hope they turn out half as well as yours.
24 April, 14:10

@ Guy Rump, Thx for your stopping by. Always appreciated;
@ Villiers de Vos, Thank you very much for your kind words. I always try to get as near as I can to the inspiring photo, so, I'm glad you mention it. Thx again;
@ Makariel, you are too kind my friend. I'm really pleased you got through the album log. Appreciated;
@ Mathias Decommere, Thank you for your comment. You know how it's done;
@ Mark Sherwood, Thank you again for your motivation words. Very glad you also like the overall pictures;
@ CaptGPF, as always I appreciate your full support, thank you very much. We all constantly try to improve, right? I'm happy that you see it that way. I also kinda like the way, that in the vitrine, that red machine in the back is standing out, against the greens; greys; sand and camo colours of the others 😉 more then the red/brown horse, in the front, was already doing;
@ Mark van Alphen, Thank you for stoping by. Glad you like this one;
@ Jan Peters, Thanks a lot for your comment. Most of my dios are inspired or based in real photos. I think it helps on doing a better dio, at least for me it does;
@ Dietmar Bogatzki, did you check the link? It is indeed a great interesting story that I stumble by chance. But I'm very glad I found it. Thx a lot for your comment;
@ Bobby Thumbs, Thank you very much, Mate. I'm glad you think so, it makes me proud;
@ MS K, Thank you Mate, for stopping by and your kind comment. I have to agree with your perspectiv. I thougt about adding some flames and smoke on the truck, to improve that, but as I just used that material to do dust in my last dio Sd Kfz 10, I passed, this time;
@ Munkyslut, Thx a lot. Glad you like this one;
@ John, thx a lot, glad you think so. Much appreciated. I can only recommend you start with it. Yah, they take more space but in my opinion they are most reawarding. For me it's a must do.
As Jean-Michel Tilquin, suggested, I've added a few close up photos, this time with the currently actual site location of the events, in the color images for the background. I hope you like them.
27 April, 13:23

It looks really really amazing! You did what I can only imagine! Lovely! ♥♥♥
27 April, 13:35

Fantastic dio Rui! I'm still just trying to wrap my head around the detail on the motorcycle
27 April, 15:05

@ Liane Lonesome, thank you for your praise: I'm sure with your skills and interest, you can do what you imagine;
@Doubtingmango, again, a big thank you for your praise. It makes me very proud and you know why;
@J35J, I'm glad my work is good enough and it helps, some mates;
@ Pietro De Angelis, Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. Glad you like the color pics. Hope you like the new B/W too.

The history captured here has me captivated. So much is not understood about this part of history and the events leading up to what would become known as WWII. So painful to see and yet so real. In America particularly, this history has shaped what we know today in our news. Sorry, not a lot of good words right now, it's just the ones I can find. But thank you for seeing this in your mind's eye and producing this replica. Cheers Mate!

The kit shows its age. I hope, with a bit of work will turnout alright.
20 October 2024, 17:00

Will be keeping eye out for updates.
The messy glue tubes, the Beriev lm building came with a little pot of glue that you Peirce with pin on one side 🤣
Long dried up.... I did use it back when l was a kid....lots of sticky thumb prints.
Nice project 👍
23 October 2024, 18:23

Gentlemen, thank you all for your kind remarks. I have been chipping away slowly. The part count of the kit is not that high, but the version I chose as well as the paint scheme results in a lot of challenges to my skill level which I thoroughly enjoy.

Hi Villiers 👋
Your doing a good job...it looking really good 👍
Nice kit... who is the manufacturer??
6 November 2024, 21:14

👍 Thanks Villiers ...l like to look different manufacturers up n see there range 👍
7 November 2024, 13:53

Heading towards being a nice model this one, like the engine and interior work.
Good little kit 👌👍
8 November 2024, 16:59

Thank you Mr. D for your comments. The kit certainly shows its age. I remain a sucker for the larger scale classic cars.
12 November 2024, 03:02

Oh, This manufacturer I've never heard before.
I don't think it will be easy. 👍
24 November 2024, 11:32

I have experienced several paint disasters. Enamel paint kept on forming scales. In the end I had to strip the paint back several times to the primer level. Progress should be quicker from here on.
21 December 2024, 14:48

Hi Villiers 👋
Glad your getting on track a bit now, do you think the plastic reached with the paint ?
Nice to see it taking shape 👍👍
21 December 2024, 19:45

Hello Mr D
I started off with a primer, Mr. Surfacer 1500 thinned down with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner which came out just fine.
I believe that the paint layers were perhaps too thick working with enamels. I believe that I should do thin layers (well thinned) stretched over more than one day.
22 December 2024, 19:41

Annoying when the hard work is undone! ... Just have to pull it back ....and you done that, hopefully be good going forward 👍
I only use water based acrylics, Humbrol and Deluxe gloss dried nice n hard after few days, some of the other brands are bits soft!!
I've had to many dramas with Enamel 🤣 but l expected it's a better option for a car ?
I mainly use Vallejo, AK and recently been using the new ICM paints (very impressed 👍)
Did you have to do some Chrome n conducive paint striping on this one ?
👍👍
23 December 2024, 00:30

@Lorraine ...yes and the glue had a habit of going everywhere but on the model 🫣🤣
Looking nice Villiers 👍 taking shape now,l ike the leather tone of the leather seats 👌
1 19 January, 13:01

Your car is really taking shape, love colors you have chosen. As for the tube glue, i remember as kid thinking that getting a model kit with supplied glue was great until you open it. (That was the first mistake)

Getting Leather to look right is not easy " But you more than succeed on the door cards"
Doing some nice work 👍👍

The Mercedes is on its own wheels at last. I am now tackling the light clusters.
15 March, 16:32

Thanks for documenting the surfacer process. Looking very nice too!
1 15 March, 16:35

Looking great Villiers 👍
The Tire's look very original and radiator grill turned out very good.
How do you get on for the Hood/bonnet hinge??
Nice work 👏
15 March, 18:47

Thank you Jennifer and Mr D.
Mr D, it is a real hinge supplied with the model. See photo 36.
1 15 March, 19:20

I love the egg carton idea! Absolutely ingeniously!
Great work on the model too.

Gentlemen, thank you for your kind comments.
I hope to stick a fork in this project by the end of this weekend.
1 2 April, 13:47

Amazing step by step process! I love your technique for painting / reducing the fine detailed caps - absolutely brilliant!
1 15 April, 18:56

The caps worked out beautifully; I will have to remember your technique.
2 19 April, 14:18

♥ Great work! Very loving! ♥
I was at the Intermodellbau Dortmund 2025 and got a MiniArt catalog there. I also found this Lathe Machine in it and thought to myself at first, "uh huh, well, not so interesting for me."
Now I see these pictures and want the kit immediately! ^_~

Hi Felix and Desert Marlin. Thanks very much for your kind words. I have a few builds that are now complete, so reveal images coming for a handful of albums soon! 😉 Thanks also for the likes all 👍
1 14 October 2024, 20:17

Hi mates 🙂 Here's another build I've finally crossed the finishing line with! Have got around to adding the reveal photos, hope you like it 🙂 enjoyed this one, a pretty tidy kit tbh 👍
1 29 April, 10:00

Thanks mates! You're all very kind to comment and say such nice stuff 😊 I really enjoyed this build. For an old Esci kit, I think it built up pretty sweet! Albeit simplistic by today's standards I appreciate. Thanks also to those who have seperately liked too 👍
