Even if it is historically inaccurate what does it matter? There is no obligation to be completely true to history – your model your rules – only a tiny percentage of people would notice they were JGSDF troops anyway. If you decided to paint your tank sky blue with purple spots that would be entirely up to you.
Go for it.

and you can always add "what-if" to the title ,and then nobody can complain if you have a Roman legionaire using an AK-47 against an TIE fighter 😛
