I usually build 1/35 scale armor models, but I recently built my first 1/350 scale ship model. Looking back, I realize I made a poor choice in the selection of the I 400 (special edition clear parts) as I thought it would be an easy build, but it turned out to be the most challenging constructions I've ever done. The hand railings were extremely difficult, as I made the mistake of thinking I knew best and not following the instructions. I also made a rookie mistake by not cleaning out my airbrush when applying a clear coat over the clear parts, which resulted in a cloudy look. Despite the challenges, I learned a lot in this build and ultimately enjoyed it. It takes a real skill to work with such small parts!

This is something to see as a former artillery guy, might actually get me into building a model artillery piece eventually.

Neuling—it's kind of weird because in spite of that I am almost exclusively interested in modeling aircraft, but I have thought of it. If I ever get into armor it would be an M109A6 and/or M1068 (which was our FDC) since I spent some years in a Paladin unit. One of these days I'll check it out.

Fantastic work, I'd love to try dioramas but don't have space, how do people keep dioramas?

Its a good and important point Stephen, as you really want to show off your work well - as a minimum, I suspect a lot of shelving is required and an anti-static dusting brush!

Thanks a lot Stephen and Cliff Kidd! - Most of my dioramas are not on display but stored in dust proof plastic boxes stacked in the attic. The boxes in different sizes come from the British company "Really useful boxes".

Is that a 175mm in the background of the photo with you up front. The First Sergeant is going to chew some butt for open powder increments on the trails! Nice to see someone building artillery and it looks great.

Thank you, JW! - Yes, the gun on picture 26 is the 175 mm version, I guess nicknamed "Mad Dog".

Thanks a lot, kunlun changjiang. I am not much of a step by step photographer, often being carried away by the modelling work and unwilling to stop the flow. 🙂
