Jakub, the construction progress so far looks very good.
Maybe you'll find a liking in WWI models. 😉

I'm a bit late in commenting do to my holiday - nice work so far!
Since there are some pitfalls: do you want a fun build or should it be correct?
Which specific serial do you plan to build?

Thank you, Frank!
I want to build 8244/17 of Jasta 54. This marking is, according Eduard instructions, just a reconstruction based on the description in the flight log, revealed in the Jasta Color book. So, in my opinion it will be difficult to buid it 100% correct 🙂 However, I will of course be grateful for any advice and recommendations

Ok, on a Pfalz D.IIIa the engine is different. The very simplified Eduard (the pipe work on the lower end of the cylinders is the water, what you have painted dark red - but this is not much visible later) engine shows a older 160hp Mercedes D.III. This is especially shown by the valve train, which can be seen on top of the engine.
Two bolts on top, and the valve in the middle: [img1]
The later 185hp Mercedes D.IIIa was also available for some Pfalz D.III, and nearly all of Pfalz D.IIIa pictures shows this stronger version. The drawings I know too. The engine is a little bit bigger, but the valve train looks very different - four bolts and the valves rockers comes out of the side:
Roden has a better representation of this engine (same sprue on all kits), and it is also more correct in size. That means I cannot get it into this model 🙁
No worries mate, only an expert will notice on the finished model 🙂
And regarding the wings: I strongly recommend Aviattic decals. The ones printed on clear paper (normal) and the ones printed on white for rib tapes. Or you use the Eduard rib tapes. I have some build logs explaining the usage.

Thank you very much, Frank, for your help!
While going through the photos and drawings of the engines, I noticed that each type is different, but I was quite confused as to which engine was the right one. In the end I didn't deal with it and just tried to scratchbuild some visible details that are missing from the kit. For example the air pump, pipes and hoses leading from the radiator on the upper wing etc. I use the WnW manual and kit ( borrowed from a friend of mine) as the main source of information 🙂
Thanks for the advice on decals. I'll try to get the Aviattic ones. But I don't know if it will be easier for me to use the lozenge decals from the kit, which are already prepared in the shape of a wing. I will see...

Yes, the WNW manuals are a good source! You can download the manuals as PDF, the web site is still available.
But I suggest to download all what you need (also for other projects) soon. The site was away for a while already and I heard rumors that it was paid then for some additional time only.
For the Linux users among us, I suggest using "wget" with the recursive option so you can get all the PDFs, reference images and more to your hard drive without making millions of clicks,

I sprayed the colors on the fuselage and applied the first layer of lozenge decal from Eduard. Unfortunately, I could not find those from Aviattic at any of the e-shops. I have to admit I'm too lazy to order them directly from the UK manufacturer 🙂

What manufacturer did you use for the lozenge decals?

Thank you, mates!
As you wrote, these masking troubles sometimes happens. Luckily, this one was easy to fix.
Ludvíku, lozenge decals are Eduard. It´s in my previous comment, with an explanation why 🙂
Alec, the silver paint is Tamiya LP-11. I would say, it´s very similar to a "classic" gunze C-8

Good progress 👍 When I saw picture 31, my first thought was "Nice weathering!" 😉
I once read that almost all liquid masking agents are based on latex, and that needs ammonia as a thinner to keep it liquid. But ammonia also attacks acrylic paints 🙁

I was a Calvary Scout when I first joined the Army, I was assigned to the 2nd ACR in September of 1990 Then in February of 91 is when we invaded from Saudi into Iraq. it was the tankers that were involved in the Battle of 73 Eastings. I wasn't in the battle, but I saw the after math of of what the M1 was doing to the Iraqi Tanks. Literally the turrets would "POP"off the chassis because Russian Tank turrets are held in place by gravity. The DCU is the Army name for "DESERT COMBAT UNIFORM" it was the first desert uniform we had and because of the little black dots on the uniform it got the nick name of the Chocolate Chip pattern, which got phased out a few years later around 92-93 in favor of the Tri-Color DCU we had in Iraq you may have seen us wear between 03-06. So there is my memory's and the DCU definition. Thanks for a great Dio !

@Nigel-Yeah ! was like a T-62 Convertible ! but then we told not to get to close the ones that were taken out by A-10's, some were radioactive from the depleted uranium rounds that destroyed them. Funny thing too was when I went back in 03 and two other deployments, there were bone yards of these old tanks we took out in 91, fenced off with "DANGER-RADIOACTIVE" posted all around them.

The Challenger 1s I saw during Op Granby had the inverted V in black on their sides (and top) as Allied identification marks. However, I can not say that they all did as I only saw some of them during the conflict.

Thanks a lot mates! - This is an old diorama inspired by the pictures I saw after Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm/Granby. With my new camera I took new pictures and pimped the album up. - Guy I´m honored to get positive feedback from a gulf war veteran! And your remark on the vehicle marking "V" is absolutely correct. In my reference booklets (both of them Concord Publications Company) "Blitzkrieg in the Gulf" by Yves Debay and "Operation Granby" by Bob Morrison nearly all British tanks have the "V" marking except for the tanks with the number "42" (written in black or white digits). Was the "42" a unit which did not go into battle or were the pictures taken before the battle began?

Hi Neuling, The numbers on the side of the MBTs were, I'm pretty certain, identification numbers within a Squadron of MBTs, i.e. 41, 42 and 43 for example would be the ID numbers for differing MBTs within the Sqn. The inverted V was not present when exercising before going into the war fighting phase so the photos you have seen are prior. Hope that helps. As I'm sure you can tell I did not serve with a tank Regt, I was a Medic.

Looks like the installation of a new boiler... but is the very first shell of the 'Trevithick', the first steam locomotive....
The vintage kit doesn't appear to be bad and quite well thought out, only the plastic material in an unhealthy-soapy looking green plastic made me a little uneasy. But it will be fine! 🙂
I'm really looking forward to the next steps - a highly interesting and refreshingly different topic!

The main assemblies have now been completed. Care must be taken here to clean up the numerous ejection marks and the many moulding protrusions, but that's the only thing holding it up 🙂
The colours on the parts shown are, apart from the primer with black acrylic paint, Alclad II metal paints, namely Gunmetall, Steel... and above all Alclad ''Panzer Grey''. Traces of various shades of pastel crayon brown have been applied on top with a dry brush.

Sehr cooles Projekt - ganz nach meinem Geschmack. I'm curious about the outcome.

Hello Rene, the seat is happily yours, but the show is already over 🙂
I am proud to present you the completed 'Trevithick'! It was great fun taking photos of this gearwheel, linkage and flywheel work of wonder. Please excuse the resulting large number of pictures.
This time Alclad paints were used for the colour scheme, but not only from the metal range: what you see here is Alclad's 'Panzergrau' primer, together with 'Gunmetal' and 'Smoke' and similar shades. I have replaced the plastic parts for the push rods with metal bars. I hope you like the result as much as I enjoyed building it!

Nice result Roland.
I was wondering how they added more coal to the boiler when the tender is so far away and the boiler door is under the pistons.

Thank you very much, mates! This is highly appreciated and motivating feedback! I'm glad to have ventured into an area new to me; the kit, for all its age, has charm and possibilities 🙂 Your words really make me very happy!

.... and Gorby: You're absolutely right! The layout of the loading and coal tender also seems puzzling to me 🙂

I had a look into this and it turns out the original company who produced this kit got it wrong:
Youtube Video
Sorry Roland. 😉

Goodness! You wouldn't want to get your fingers (or hair) trapped in the moving parts!!
Nice build, Roland, I'm enjoying the sound-track to the video, whilst admiring your model 🙂

Thank you very much for sharing this great video! Yes, Bruce, a highly dangerous device, and a highly illustrative demonstration of it too

Great work as usual 👍 The weathering and clean and shine interior on the road whells just wonderfull stuff...
I've also done a Panzer Regiment 8, Panzer II, but in North Afrika. Realy like that Bull Stencil.
Any issues with the kit?

Hey, Rui! Thanks!
About the kit: Getting the lower hull together was somewhat tricky and needed care, patience and attention.
The brackets that support the idler tensioning mechanism on the rear of the hull were wrong for
Ausf.B, and needed to be replaced. And I replaced the commanders cupola with a Dragon one too, because Tristar didn't have any interior details on theirs. Otherwise it's a great kit and a quite fun to build.

Great realistic weathering! Finally, a Tank thats just DIRTY, not aged for centuries with excessive paint chipping.
