Thanks for your interest gorby and bughunter!
These are some quick images I grabbed on Sunday - will get some better ones and post here.
Part 'traditional' sheet styrene (with a balsa wood core for the wings) and part CAD designed and printed parts for the details, such as engine, exhausts, undercarriage, cockpit details.
Built for a former owner of the full-size aeroplane.

Those teasers you threw at us wet the appetite for more. I fully second Bughunters request.

Hi Dieter - I would have to borrow it back from the person I built it for - so will possibly be at Telford, but not sure at this stage.

Thanks for your kind words Bernhard and Robert - appreciated!
I've just uploaded some 'in-progress' images - I may have more which I'll add if I find them.
I'll be taking some studio shots in next few days.

Iain, were the wings repurposed from another kit or did you vacuform them? How did you make ridges so perfect on the wings?

![](/profiles/img/144610-299-s.jpg)
Hi Skyhiker - that's an easy one - and quite an old technique. The wing cores are carved from balsa wood - takes minutes. A single sheet of thin styrene is then cut to suitable size to wrap around the balsa core. The positions of the ribs (and any other details) are marked on the *insides* of the styrene wing skins using a pencil - working from plans - and then gone over using a biro/ball-point pen along a steel straight edge using sufficient pressure to form the 'raised' rib feature on the outside. Skins are then bonded to the balsa core using epoxy - and cyanoacrylate/superglue on some of the edges. It's a really simple, and quite satisfying, process.

Thanks, again, for all your kind words - really appreciated - I never think anything is quite 'good enough' - so the feedback is really encouraging. Yesterday I removed the windscreen as I wasn't happy with it - and also have to replace the 3D Printed tail skid as it's broken for a second time - modifying the design of that to allow for a metal core - as I did with the main undercarriage legs. Have fun!

Thank you very much for all the additional pictures of the build phase! And you lucky one own an ALPS printer 👍 I hope your supplies will last forever.

Spanjaard....they are made from paper. I drew a row of leaves on a long strip, cut them out, sprayed it green, then rolled it up.
Donald...sorry, this was a few.years ago and I don't remember. Probably just Tamiya blue.
If I had to do it again I'd use a more grey/blue as this blue looks too bright for a corsair in my opinion.

I've uploaded more photos that document the build progress, which has been very slow. Sorry about that, but life keeps getting in the way. I've had a variety of health issues and I'm heading to the oncologist next week to set up a time for a biopsy on some nodes in my neck. Hopefully it's just related to a sinus infection I've been fighting and not the lymphoma coming back. Keeping my fingers crossed. Cheers, Bill

I used up a few bottles of semi-gloss white, but the Victor is now a "white whale." Thanks for the kind words on my health - I go in on Feb. 29 for a sinus surgery and tissue collection for biopsy. Fingers crossed. I tried to cross my toes but was unsuccessful... Cheers, Bill

Hope the biopsy doesn't find anything bad Bill.
The Victor looks excellent so far.

Oh, by the way - after two weeks (!) of testing my oncologist decided the biopsies were negative. Dodged another bullet.

Thanks mates. I've added a couple more photos that show the painting of the landing gear and air brake internals. I've also painted the wheels, gear doors and air brake petals (photos soon). Up next is to paint the dielectric panels on the underside as well as the H2S radome. Cheers, Bill

Two more photos added showing some detail painting. I'm off to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware tomorrow for a week of spending what's left of my retirement portfolio. Unfortunately there are no hobby shops anywhere near where we'll be. But the Air Mobility Command museum at Dover AFB should make up for that.

Nearing the finish line on this one. The stickers are all on, and I really like how they performed. Hardly any film outside the design, and they snuggled down nicely with the usual solvents. I didn't see any silvering. Next up will be a few coats of a semi-gloss clear, and then I can attach the remaining bits. It's been a long build, but it was interrupted several times. Next project will be smaller! Cheers, Bill

I also wonder about the same question (where to put it), that's why mine is still in the box 🙂 . Beautifully done, Bill, congrats on such a great result. Please do share once you have an idea for how to show it off permanently 🙂

@Palo M - I have a display case large enough to hold it, but it's currently full! I've decided to get a smaller enclosed bookcase (like an IKEA Billy with glass doors) and move all my smaller models over to that. That will free up more than enough room. For now though, the Victor is in a large cardboard box awaiting its permanent home. Cheers, Bill

![](/profiles/img/48545-484-s.jpg)
Thanks Bill! May I ask what kind of case it is? I'm familiar with Billy - I instead use an IKEA MILSBO glass vitríne for all of my models. I just can't find a decently priced one for larger models like this Victor, 1:48 F-111 or larger 1:32 planes. If you know the name of the display case, would appreciate the info.

![](/profiles/img/10105-s.jpg)
Hi Palo, My big display case is a homemade custom one that I got from a local club member's estate after he passed away. It's really nice, with internal lights and some storage drawers at the bottom. Whoever made it knew his/her woodworking. Oh yeah, it weighs a ton. Cheers, Bill

THX a lot. The tank is in airbrushing process right now and more pictures will follow when ready. The grass is put on wood glue with a pair of tweezers single handedly. A very fiddly work but I kind a like it it's somhow meditative.

Thanks Gorby! This is my second vacu kit build and this time it feels a little bit more straight forward…
My experience so far with vacu kits is that you have to spend a good amount of time on fitting, sanding and putty work to get a nice base for paint and finishing. Also spending quite some time reviewing old photos to get a good picture of the details. This as there is a fair amount of scratch work to get a decent build.

Thanks for upload 😃👍

![](/profiles/img/129970-991-s.jpg)
Thanks Mr D for your comments.
There will certainly be scratch build involved, mainly regarding the details as it looks for now. Otherwise I will raid my spare part stash first in order to save time and frustration.
If you are intrested in vac kits you can also have a look at my first vac kit:

Will check out the XP-67

![](/profiles/img/129970-991-s.jpg)
@Mr D - yes you will need some good scissors as a start😅, for the fine tuning of the parts I normally use saw razor blades and sanding paper of variuos grits. Regarding glue I use "normal" Tamyia Extra Thin, the vacu kit plastic is often quite soft and melts easily.
30 July, 19:02
![](/profiles/img/129970-991-s.jpg)
@Skyhiker - Happy to hear that your following with great intrest. Usually the building pace goes down during the sommer period as I have been reminded that we have a garden that also need some TLC…😂
Nevertheless, yes there is planning and ordning of parts going on behind the scenes. Cockpit need to be done, rescribing the full kit, alignment of wheels as the mold was totally off-set. Drill out all machine guns for after market parts etc.
The main work will be to prepare the plane for NMF look also including some aluminum dope areas. Will try AK's metal paints this time. Stay tuned!
