The story of L8840 and her crew

Brandis in his Bf110 managed to hit and set fire to the starboard fuel tank of L8840. The flames then quickly spread to the starboard engine. George Webb kept on firing his guns til the last minute,

Pilot Archibald Edmund Hill (23).

Edmund amongst friends.
At the time, his wife, Edna was pregnant with their first child, and was waiting for him in Dyce, near Aberdeen.

Navigator Ronald Hector Laurence Cressy (29)

Worked as a banker before the war.
His great passion in life was carrier pigeons.

Gunner/radio operator George James William Webb (26)

Oldest of three siblings.
When their father passed away, George did all he could to step up as a father figure for his youngest brother Henry.

Leutnant Felix-Maria Brandis (24) flew in this Bf110 on the day he shot down L8840.

Brandis died on the eastern front in februar 1942 due to bad weather.

The funeral procession for the Blenheim crew at Drønen on april 21. Between 1000 and 1500 Norwegians came to the funeral.
