So I just think this is a cool idea, since Sword is the first to make an early F-8 nose on ANY injection molded kit, and they did a pretty good job getting the shape right too. Basically I would cut along the panel line just aft of the windscreen and graft it to the same place on the Academy F-8E. What's great about this is the RF-8 windscreen is correct for an early F-8 as well. Things like the avionics hump, landing gear, and other details would have to be solved, but the nose shape and windscreen are by far the biggest hurdle for making an early F-8. Fortunately Sword's RF-8 just might be the key.

Hi guys! Sergej that one will be 1/48 as I have the decals in that scale. Unsure at this point but there's a bunch of VF-24 jets that are great choices. Also there's Dick Schaffert's too

I got the CAT4 conversions for 1/48 coming in the mail. If they turn out to be good sets I have a few jets in mind including VF-84, since who can resist those flames?

Thanks for the interest gents! That ESCI kit's decals at least might end up being good for something

Album info

While building my 1/72 Crusaders, it occurred to me that Sword's RF-8 nose is basically the same as early F-8s. If Sword doesn't also release an F-8C in the near future, then you can bet I'll be taking on this crazy idea
