Nice Frank. I will follow. You had said you were doing it in desert colours didn't you?

I did, but not yet totally decided. There's also options for Belgian or Spanish armies in Olive Drab. However, I have a spare figure from Challenger Mk.1 that I could use; there's no figure included and it could do with one for scale. I'll have to check out some reference photos to come up with a plan!

This is my first AFV Club kit. Some of the ejector pin marks are in quite prominent places so need a little care when removing from the sprue. However, it is a 20 year old kit and we must be thankful that AFV Club are producing kits of more uncommon subjects!

love the subject... Revell re-released this kit a few years ago actually in a "top-opening-box" (very unusual for Revell)

I didn't realise that - do you know if the Revell kit is the same mould?

🙂 not... not at all silly.. but it is the exact same, it also says "AFV-club" on the moulds. even metal barrel and photoetch from original kit. maybe some different decals?

Thanks Christian, I'm still not sure whether to finish it as a desert or a European vehicle.

I made a decision - desert it is! The instructions aren't very clear on the options for the storage boxes, best to refer to photos of the real thing. I fitted the wire reel then had to change it after I decided to fit the two optional rear boxes on the turret. The PE mesh round the exhaust is quite tricky to fit - it says to bend it round a 5mm former but as it's quite thick metal, it doesn't stay bent to the right shape - I had to add extra CA glue to get it to stick.

Just been playing round with getting that draped flag look. I printed a downloaded image of the Union Flag then stuck it to silver foil with PVA glue - bent it to the correct shape then leave to fully dry.

Yo - flags are very difficult but yours looks ok. I print on tracing paper if they are in the 'flown' position - it just gives them that translucent look.
Everything else spot on as usual - I am having a modelling holiday due to DIY etc but will get back on the bench as soon as I can and then we can exchange again. Am thinking two kits at same time - the Airfix 1/48 Lightning going head to head with a 1/48 Academy Mig-21 with bells on!

Good to hear from you, its a shame these jobs round the house get in the way of the serious business of model making... Thanks for tip about flags, I got the idea of the foil from an American product although they sell a rub-on transfer. Hopefully mine will look OK with a bit of weathering. Two kits not a bad thing, keeps the interest up!

I'll try to keep it interesting! Just bought some crew figures for it, also hope to make some camouflage netting.

Hi Barry. The flag is a nice addition. Turned out well using foil for backing. 👍

Thanks Alan. I like to add details like this to bring it to life - especially on this one as it's quite a small vehicle.
