Just imagine a war starting between the USSR and the western Allied in 1946..
Both side will re-use the most advanced AFV of the III. Reich, especially when there were no home made alternative.
That was the case for the US Army, who had to protect their troops from the Il-2 and IL-10.
The quad .50 M16 MGMC wasn't powerfull enough to punch through these heavily armoured planes, and the 40mm Bofor were too slow to deploy to be effective.
The solution was the use of a small batch of Panzer IV-based Kugelbitz, before the a full scale production (M27B1) could be lunched on M4 Sherman hulls.
