Great subject Christian ! Did they fly P 39s when they were sationed in Italy ?

Yes Hanno, they were based at Capodichino (Naples) and Ramitelli (Campobasso). In the early stages (1944), their task were to attack only ground target (with P-39 and P-40). Only in 1945 (with P-51 and P-47) they start to guard bomber on their bombing raid above north of Italy and Germany
