Just started this one last night. Only spent an hour working on the cockpit, but got some of it assembled and the Dark Gull Gray sprayed. This kit looks amazing! I can imagine this one might be completed in no time!

Hahaha I did Germen, for two days! LOL But I have way too many models in the stash I want to build, and life is short. 🙂

I work about 1-2 hours, every night before I go to bed. On weekends, I will get in about 2-4 hours per day usually, mostly at night. I am married, but have no kids yet, so that helps with the time I can work on models.

Same here! 🙂 Just some modeling minutes between work and other commitments. I have the same combo and am planning on the VF-114 bird. I hope to find the kit in the mailbox when I come home. The decals are already lying on my workbench.

Yes, it is quite amazing how everything just fits so perfectly Holger. I've never built a kit anywhere nearly as well engineered and as nice fitting as this one.

Looking very nice there mate. Keep up the good work. I have a week worth of :Honey Do's this week so will get no modeling done at all. So the Hawk sits and collects dust. LOL.

Thanks Clifford! Well, the Hawk will still be there waiting when you list is complete. Just think of it this way, you can return to your build with a renewed sense of enthusiasm!

Now looking at my Revell version and wondering if it will fit as well as this?

I attempted to build a Revell Tomcat as my first project as a modeller a couple years ago and failed miserably. I failed so badly I did not attempt another build for like 6 months, and almost quit the hobby before really ever getting started. Much of that had to do with poor fitment and trying to rescribe lost detail from sanding. I can tell you without hesitation they just aren't in the same league as far as fit is concerned. But the other side of that is that they also aren't in the same league as far as price is concerned either. The Tamiya Tomcat costs like $75 and the Revell can be had for $20.
I will just say I will never build another Revell/Monogram Tomcat again.

Unfournetly, I have quite a few Revell Cats in the stash,so I will be building a few more. I seem to have learned to overcome their short comings. I like the Academey cats. Maybe "Santa" will leave a Tamiya Cat under my tree. LOL. (Hope.)

Thanks Clifford and David! I still have some parts to prime tonight, and hopefully I will also get the pre-shading done tonight as well.

Yu just opened up my Revell Tomcat and started. The painting diagrams are hopeless! Have had to download the Tamiya ones to have any chance. Can see the Tamiya is a thing of beauty. Will definitely get one. This'll be good practice at least.

That is true Adam, if you can conquer the Revell Tomcat then the Tamiya cat would be a piece of cake for you when you build one eventually. Post pics of your progress, I will def follow along and help if you ever have any questions. The Tomcat is my favorite plane, so I know a few things about it and might be able to help you out.

So got most of the main painting done. Still got to do some of the metal leading edges, and hopefully tomorrow I will get the future coat on so that I can decal on Tuesday. Aiming to complete it this week!

Got decaling done (except for the missiles). Man, early Tomcats had a TON of stencils... And between the kit decals and the Furball sheet, they are all there. Lol
