Haven't been doing to much modeling lately, just going at my usual slow pace and getting side tracked looking at others great work. I've got a Dragon King Tiger Late Production I've had forever, and she's begging me to build her and place her on a dio. If I put the blinkers on I should get the wings on by tonight and maybe in a couple of days some paint on her. When this bird is finished then I think I'll tackle the Puttie Cat.😢

Finally got all the decals on this Mighty British Beast, soon a gloss coat and then tomorrow a Wash and Dot Technique to add some weathering. The light is getting closer at the end of the tunnel on this one.😄

Hey Mick, I spent an evening in Auckland chatting with a Pommie bloke who reckoned he worked as an engineer on the electronic systems radar ect on the Lightning. He didn't like me either.

Hey Peter, why aren't you watching the footy, kicks off in 5 minutes, so I won't be back for a wee while.😢

Mine did a couple of weeks ago so we bought a brand new 55" Samsung smart t.v and a special stand to mount it on, seeing how we rent and can't put it on the wall. Can even swing it round from left to right and up and down for better viewing for when Tammy isn't around.

Moto gp starts this weekend too. Mam just ordered a 65inch TEAC. Hope they put the big sucker up on the cabinet for me!

Nice going so far, I remember this one well 🙂 was a nice kit

Michael Hickey
Thanks Stephan & Augie, it's been a pleasure to build, especially because on this Lightning I got the wings right first time unlike my last Lightning where I nearly had her finished and realized my mistake of having the wrong wings on and had to take them off to put the correct wings on.

Martin Oostrom
Why was that? Where you hoodwinked by the holes for the external tanks?
8 March 2018, 18:27
Michael Hickey
No I had 3 sets of wings in one box 1 pair for an F.2 and 2 pair for an F.6, without thinking I just grabbed a pair.

I decided to remove the wings and start all over again, luckily a mate of mine had some spare decals.

So, having options is not always a good option.
Glad you recovered.

Michael Hickey
Yeah, putting parts of 3 kits into one box doesn't pay sometimes.🤔

One of my favourite planes. I remember seeing them at air displays at Biggin Hill when I was a boy

Thanks John and Cliffy, I would loved to have seen one in flight they say it's an awesome sight and sound.

Anybody aware of another fighter with the engines mounted one above the other? Not a plane guy so don't pick on my lack of general knowledge...
9 March 2018, 03:38
Michael Hickey
The only thing that comes close that I can think of is a Do-335 Pfiel, a German WWII pull-push fighter. The engines were in line with each other, but not on top of each other.

Jens

Hello Michael, I thought you were done with it, or can not you have enough of it ?? 🙂
9 March 2018, 04:46
Michael Hickey
Nah Jens, I just needed to put it to one side for a little while so she felt fresh again. Should be finished soon.

This is the one that gave me the wing problem, she's all done.

When they had their formation team (The Firebirds IIRC) which were nine of them together they made the ground shake! I must have liked a lot of noise because the Vulcan was another favourite
9 March 2018, 09:50
Clifford Keesler
I loved watching the Vulcan, such an impressive aircraft. Hey Mikey I want to do the gray and crimson version, but I can not for the life of me find any "Barley" gray or Light aircraft gray paint, which is what Airfix calls for, have any ideas on subistutesor anyone that makes those colors.

@Juns, thanks mate
@John, that would have been awesome to see.
@Cliffy, I'll go check what I've got in my paint shop.😢

Took a bit longer than expected, but she's done now.

Congratulations Mick! Worth the wait! Excellent job! That's one win for the year. More than you will get from the Dogs by the look of it.

Thanks Peter, I think, and what do you expect playing Melbourne on the other side of the bloody country, could have at least played at Belmore where I used to go as an ankle biter and run a muck on the hill and when the game was finished try to claim the black & white corner post. They were the days, when you could see a good all in brawl totally out of control, not like the push & shove crap you get these days.

Beautiful, is all I can say.
