Album image #1
The object is combine the AMT 57 300C,,,,,,

Album image #2
,,,,,with the front end of this 57 New Yorker promo,,,,,,

Album image #3
,,,,,,into this: 1957 Chrysler Windsor. This one is the same color as the one I had, but with single headlights.

Album image #4
It has the Windsor scripts and maybe a few other small things I can use.

Album image #5
the promo fromt end is a bit warped, so first I'll have to straighten it so the hood will be straight

Album image #6
Not perfect, but pretty close,,, good enough as it will need more work anyway

Album image #7
I used dymo tape to try and make a straight cut. I knew it was too short, so I went all the way!

Album image #8
Again, not perfect, but it's not wide enough either!

Album image #9
There's the new hood.

Album image #10
It's gonna need some work!

Album image #11
,,,,

Album image #12
The parking lights & grill backing have to go!

Album image #13
So much for that.

Album image #14
now for some adding plastic on the sides and front

Album image #15
The 300 trim will have to be removed.

Album image #16
Done. The gas door looks a bit high to me, might give me trouble when it comes time to put on the trim ???

Album image #17
Mine had single headlights, the 300 has duals. So I'll see if I can make these fit. ?????

Album image #19
Album image #20
Album image #21
The letters & badge was the same on the New Yorker & Windsor,,,,,

Album image #22
,,,,hopefully I can keep it in tact.

Album image #23
The promo grill is about 5mm too narrow,,,,

Album image #24
,,,,so I'll have to widen it somewhat. I'm thinking the headlights aren't going to look good, too much of a gap, I may have to go with the doubles!

Album image #25
Spliced a section in,,,,

Album image #26
,,,,and cut the grooves with a saw. Have to see what it looks like with some primer. I'm sure it will need some work!

Album image #27
Getting there !!

Album image #28
Album image #29
Album image #30
The engine wouldn't fit between the upper control arms!!!!!

Album image #31
fits w/valve covers off, but then you can't get them back on!

Album image #32
grind those puppies off !!!

Album image #33
Album image #34
I was going to put plug wires on this one bit there was NO COIL!

Album image #35
Album image #36
Album image #37
the air cleaner on the kit is totally wrong. there would be 2 like this facing opposite each other.

Album image #38
the frame or floor pan was warped. I knew that early on, but figured it would be acceptable??? the rear has tabs that fit into the body, the front just rests on pegs. Had to use plastic glue and clamp it to make it stay CA just wouldn't hold it.

Album image #39
the exhaust warp the swaybars!

Album image #40
not sure the Windsor had chrome trim on the headliner, but I did it anyway

Album image #41
the tranny diptube is way out of whack. The battery was too tall and the hood sat up too high, so I hacked about 1/8" off the bottom!

Album image #42
,,,but in general it doesn't look too bad really. the front wheels are too far forward! The body is too short distance between rocker panels and top of doors too short. Check the pic of the real car, much more space between the fender flare and the trim

Album image #43
Album image #44
well, the promo hood doesn't fit the greatest.

Album image #45
the headlight lenses fit horribly. It took me 2 hours to get them in and had to use too much CA so they fogged, usually they dont

Album image #46
I couldn't get the single headlights from the promo to fit right, so I used the duals. Mine had singles.

Album image #47
Album image #48
Album image #49
the trim color is too dark. it was really pinker.

Album image #50
Album image #51
Album image #52
the exhaust pipes when attached to the frame were under the bumper. had to cut them loose to get the bumper on!

Album image #53
Album image #54
the Windsor trim is from the Model Car Garage 300 PE set

Album image #55
Album image #56
Album image #57
the wheel pins were pretty bad, they had to be shimmer or they would have been real sloppy, one is a bit loose.

Album image #58
yea, could have done better on the hood !!! BUT<<<<<<<<<

Hey Christian!
Yes, it's gonna be fun! But it will be worth the effort.
Looks like you've been busy yourself. Some great projects.
Keep up the good work!

I gotta say this AMT kit was pretty bad as a whole. I had all kinds of fit problems with it. So far the only AMT kit I've built that was decent was the 49 Ford. I seem to remember as a kid that Revell kits were much better. The Revell kits I've built so far have been pretty good. The AMTs seem to have a lot of fit issues!

Thanks again Christian. I should have paid more attention to the hood. The promo New Yorker was pretty warped. I straightened it side to side pretty well, but didn't realize is was so warped lengthwise. The 57 Windsor was a sweet car back in the days! I remember it well.

Album info

This was one of the nicer cars I had when I was in high school. Mine had single headlights, later production cars had duals. It was a real tire burner with a posi rear end !!
