Montage F2G 57
Here is my subject after the restauration.
The two birds that Bob Adegaard put back in flight condition. He sadly lost his live in the blue one in 2012. He continue to live making me dreaming.
When Bob Odegaard begined his job, the plane was in very poor condition.
The engine's Kit contain only three of the for row of cylinder. As i want to open the covers, i prepared some mold to reproduce the lacking parts.
All the parts and tools that I used to represent the cylinder's pushrods.
Building of the first row.
The pushrods of the fist cylinder row are complete.
The first two rows complete.
All the pushrods are complete (ouf!).
If you dont use it for a plane, paint it in green: you have a wonderful chrismass tree.
Blank assembly for the motivation.
I represented the spark plugs on each cylinder with stretched sprue.
The four rows are ready for paint job. Before i continue to detail the engine.
Witch front ring will i choose? from left to the right: the ring from the kit, the resin part from ultracast and the front ring cut from a Tamiya kit.
I think this will be my choice for the front ring: the ultracast parts.
It's too bad the kit have no option to represent the flap in down position. So i taked parts from a Tamiya kit.
The propeller from the kit is a bit crude and the spiner is to short. Fortunately you can find the same propeller in the P-47 from Tamiya and as i have a Razorback bos this part is not used aniway. so i will use the Tamiya one.
My today work.
Wip on paint job
A test fitting reveal that the rear parts dont fit on the support details off the wheel well.
A comparaison between special hobby parts (left and Tamiya parts.
I begin paint job on the wheel well Aires insert. I used Gunze inetrior green.
Paint job on Wheel welle.
I detailled the tail wheel. First i perforated the sructure, cut the wheel.
The F2G had a cockpit very close of the F4U4 one if you build a militaru one. this racer have a "classic" seat (i think all the racer have this type of seat to gain mass).
The wheel and its fork were openwork. The wheel is glued sideways.
I rebuild the structure with plasticard.
Test fitting of the tail wheel on his bulkhead made from plasticard.
i modified the tamiya part, i cut the upper part and build seat support. right is the mold i made to copy the seat fixation.
A close view off the rear bulkhead of the cockpit.
Wip on seat supports.
Wip on seat supports.
The parts to build the pilot seat.
I buil the fixation on the seat, it's very small.
Building of the harness on the seat.
The seat is fixed to his bulkhead.
I am happy with the result.

Yeah I was thinking that engine is absurdly large !! 🙂
Don't think I've seen a bubble top Corsair before....
Also something funky going on with the "Rudders"..... yes, that's a plural😉
I wonder that's for ? some kind of anti torque trim device ? maybe ?
Anyhow cool project and great colour scheme 🙂

@Choppa Nutta: This version was originaly built to fight against Kamikaze plane at low altitude. Only 10 were built and no one see combat operation. The engine is the P&W R4360 (28 cylinder, and 3000 horesepower. For the tail you are right it's an anti torque device. Afterwar these plane were sell as racer and several had sucess in national's airace. In 1999 Bob Odegaard take back this plane and another F2G (blue 72) to flight condition. Sadly i will lost his live in the second plane. the "modern" 57 is my subjet and have the particularity to have a second seat. This is the last F2G to fly. Best regards.

Very cool subject, love that giant engine. Definitely want to follow this one. Those air racers are great.
