Before painting the rest of the vertical stabilizer beware to remove the "in flight refeulling light" on the leading edge. Blocks 1 to 10 didn't have those.

@Rick; thx man, grab a seat, @Hans; Let me then build a nice tribute to the good old Viper!
@Erik; I want to build this in between while I'm working on my Rafale M. I believe I have those old decals for more than 25 years. I had already started with this viper at the time but never finished it. I have to reconstruct something with this version ... your tips Erik are very valuable. If you have more tips for me, I'd love to hear from you.
Erik, I do have a question for you, where did you get those old size stabilizers from the first versions F-16's..?

@Wim; I already have a bad experience with these ancient decals from Dutch Decals 🙁 Even with a lot of decal softener I did not succeed! I am busy airbrushing the vertical stabilizer but hopefully, the golden letters will go smoothly. .?!

Afterwards the decals of Dutch Decals proved to have had their best time ... you were right Erik, they are indeed ancient! I have changed to airbrush the tail by hand, hopefully I can still use the gold colored letters!

No disintegration, they were actually too thick, the edges also curled. Even with a large portion of decal softener it did not work. Do you have experience with this ...?

no, but similar experience with Flevo Decals sheets, I ended up mixing my own softener out of acetone and IPA, that did the trick....proceed with caution though

Very nice Jos! Are you planning to add the AOA probes? Quite prominent thingies on either side of the radome. Hasegawa didn't mould them but Master have very good brass ones!

@Konrad...thx mate, appreciate your comment!
@Erik....It is very unfortunate that Hasegawa did not molded these angle of attack probes on the radome as Kinetic did. I know this brass set from Master, I have already ordered it once and used it on one of my previous projects, a Thunderbird Viper from Tamiya. I still have a set of Tamiya in my stash, I do not know if I will put these AOA probes on this F-16B. I think I will keep these for another project, an Indonesian Viper. I did use the plastic pitot tube of the kit itself. I have to think about this ...

For those AoA probes you could get away with snipping off the tips of some needles (wear safety glasses!!!) and install those. The pitot is a little bit harder because of the taper and thicker transition towards the radome but a needle wrapped in tape or electrical insulation could work here as well.

Thx Patrick, that with those needles is a good idea, I will try that! I leave the pitot tube for what it is, I have flattened the point a bit ... I am satisfied with this one.

@Patrick 👍 @Erik and Arne, thx guys! @Maciej, That is why Scalemates is a source of information and that we can exchange information and tips ... there are no country borders for model building 😉
Today started with the first decals, I am not completely satisfied with the varnish layer, it has become a bit lumpy. I sprayed Future on it in thin layers, but I did not get it nicely. What did I do wrong...?

Some people just apply future with a brush! For example the silver surfaces of this P-47 have future on them. The guy is a hardcore paintbrusher.

Thx Maciej...Future is thin enough so that has to be done, but it should also be possible to get a tight coat of future with the airbrush? I do not know if I have to dilute it or the pressure in the compressor is too high or too low ... I have to do some tests this weekend.

Finally progress, I started with the decals ... then finish with Future. All parts are also ready, only a matter of assembly. I still have to do some things on the canopy with the airbrush, but otherwise everything goes according to schedule ... happy! 🙂

@Hans...Yes, I'm going to emphasize the panel lines with a light wash. I am also going to subtly apply various oil leakages. This version of the J-259 was not quite as clean as it looks now.
@Rick...thx mate!

Your F-16 looks like it going to look great! just a tip with block 1-10. The strengthening plates under the inlet nav lights are not present before block 15 🙂 recently had to remove them for my block 10 myself.

Well noted qill, I did some research ... at the time of this version of the J-259 block 1 (1989) there were indeed no reinforcement plates under the position lights at the inlet. That will be a bit of a job and again spraying things ... thanks mate 😉

Beautiful work Jos! Did you order the metal pitot tube from Master? A very nice piece, but you'll have to remove a bit from the tip of the radome to get a snug fit. But you can handle that 🙂

Jos - Hello! I lived in the Netherlands twice; Driebergen and Soest (1974-1977) and Bocholtz in Limburg Province (2002-2004). I consider the Netherlands my second home--wonderful people and a beautiful country. Congratulations on your F-16--very well done!

Do you know Dr. Scheepers living a little further down that road towards Bocholtz? His daughter is married to one of my friends. My dad used to play soccer with Sportclub '25. I'm currently stationed at Tinker AFB, so we kind of switched places. 😄

Patrick - Sounds like we did trade places. We didn't know Dr. Scheepers when we lived there. The Huppertz family was our landlord, and they were very nice people. Worked a lot with my Dutch colleagues--both Army and Air Force on the AFNORTH staff. When I was assigned there, the Balkans were winding down, and we were working to support the NATO mission in Afghanistan. I left a year early to take command of a unit in the States. Been retired from the Air Force going on 11 years, but I work civil service at Langley AFB. If your job takes you to Langley, let me know, would love to meet a fellow modeler and Airman.

I just realized that I think the two seater version of the F-16 looks nice. Usually, I don't like the look of two seater aircraft for one seater jets.
