Having seen this. I wonder if it could be possible to put magnets in the wings and body, and have the model levitate with its landing gear extended, maybe even with a slight up angle on the nose if possible.

It is possible, Revell proved it. but it is very very fragile and you have to find the right angle, heigt and magnets corresponding to each other. on slip and it SMASHES down, beeing destroyed... i know what i am talking about 😄

I had thought of the magnet idea, but having had the Revell "Magic Flight" Spitfire kit, I agree with Markus. Beside you have strings to hold the model in position over the magnets, so they would be just as visible as the rod. I went with the clear rod as the most rugged and yet least obtrusive way to make what my friend needed. For me, the most frustrating part was the poor quality of the kit itself.

Is this Amodel? I can imagine the clear parts being, not very good to say the least. I still have a few Amodel kits.

This this the Amodel 1/144 scale kit of the UC-123. This probably the poorest aircraft kit I have built, and my skills are't good enough to make it look as good as it should. I added Propblur props and mounted it on a clear rod over a Z scale jungle.
I was commissioned to make this display for a friend. He is using it as a visual to help draw attention to his efforts to persuade Congress to pass legislation helping Vietnam veterans suffering from the effects of Agent Orange.
