Ghibli: Ponyo (Sosuke's Toy Boat)
That's a very big box... but we're only after one small part..
Yep... that's all we need... in fact, we're only going to use the hull.
Of course, we will need some polystyrene to work with.
And, just like that, we've got a roof!
Glued on, but still pretty rough.
Now for the interior "engine" - just a few circles and some heat-bent tubing.
Got some paint on... also need the rudder. A bit of wire and some more polystyrene should do the trick.
Assembled and painted, but needs a bit of touch up.
There... that's better... more or less.
A few decorative bits around the hull.
A bit of silicone water and we're done... wait... should I add a couple of blue LEDs?

This one was a bit of a lark. I bought the HMS Bounty kit for a Tintin project. But when I saw this little boat, I just knew what its destiny was - Sosuke's toy boat that magically grows.

There's a bloke at the Fisherman's Wharf market in Port Adelaide South Australia that sells those little boats

It seems I'll need to do some touch up painting on the blue top. Oh, well, I wasn't quite happy with it anyway... needed more sanding.

It's funny Bugsy... it's one of the only times I'm TRYING to build a model that looks like a toy. The fact that the toy is magically enlarged in the animated film makes it a very forgiving subject actually... any building/painting errors can be chalked up to trying to capture the essence of "shoddy mass production".😉

Basically all done, except for a bit of water for the base. I need a bit of white paint touch up here and there... stupid dirty paint fingers... grrr...

I like how Greg's workbench is always bustling with activity - and there are always extremely cute and/or interesting things coming out of the production line! 👍 🙂

Heh, Alex... who knows what'll happen next?! Everyone's gotta start somewhere, but I'm pretty sure Lode didn't get his start painting a toy boat in primary colours! I opened up the Bounty kit... just to "check it out" and see if it'll work for one of my Tintin projects (it'll work now... I bought it already!). But when I saw the little life boat, I just knew it had a separate destiny from the rest of the sprues... 🙂

And, we're done. I didn't really plan to add any lighting, but there were a couple of blue LEDs just kicking around, so here we are.
