Sternail
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/9/1/8/875918-72957-39-720.jpg)
The kit has few parts, a collecting card and only two whale decals. Also a cardboard stand is included, but it is ugly and I'm going to use it only as a holder for building the model.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/9/1/7/875917-72957-20-720.jpg)
Another possible paint scheme.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/9/2/0/875920-72957-33-720.png)
Some drafts for the camo scheme. It might be a trait of the Ma.K -kits that they don't have definite painting and marking instructions.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/9/2/2/875922-72957-17-720.png)
The camo scheme I'm going to stick to is based on the Cassiopeian Nautilus-spaceship from "Once Upon a Time... Space" -tv series.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/9/1/9/875919-72957-53-720.jpg)
Parts are not glued yet. Just checking the balance.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/9/2/1/875921-72957-97-720.jpg)
I have already made a great stand for te Sternail.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/4/9/1/876491-72957-19-720.jpg)
There was no instructions about the lengths of the antenna and the laser gun, so I measured them from the picture and scaled up.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/4/9/3/876493-72957-52-720.jpg)
Two 0,5mm rods like in the instructions. The middle laser gun is not two 0,1mm rods but one 0,1mm rod and 0,6mm tube. I think gun should have a muzzle.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/4/9/4/876494-72957-50-720.jpg)
0,4mm rods in the back of the fuselage and holes drilled in the "solar panels". My smallest drill bit is 0,6mm but atleast there is room for adjusting the poses.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/4/9/5/876495-72957-67-720.jpg)
2mm hole through the copyright symbol.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/4/9/6/876496-72957-99-720.jpg)
The parts come together very well with the thin CA-glue. I should add some primer paint before the last parts.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/1/5/1/877151-72957-70-720.jpg)
Filled an empty area with milliput and putty.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/1/5/2/877152-72957-28-720.jpg)
Black primer on the fuselage and behind the "condensers" and "plasma rocket motors", that are based on T-62 tank turrets.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/1/5/0/877150-72957-29-720.jpg)
More parts in place. The "solar panels" will be added last after painting, markings and weathering .
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/6/0/4/877604-72957-73-720.jpg)
Now everything is black primer.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/6/0/2/877602-72957-36-720.jpg)
The main engine nozzle should have been painted separately, because now I had to mask the surroundings. Atleast AK's plastic putty is easy and fast to use.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/6/0/3/877603-72957-69-720.jpg)
Pre-shading or is this called black basing with color variation?
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/6/0/5/877605-72957-59-720.jpg)
I added some AMig transparator in the light gray paint and covered the hole model. Tomorrow maybe comes the blue stripes.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/1/1/8/878118-72957-12-720.jpg)
Masking the stripes was very burdensome... only the front fuselage was masked this time.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/1/1/7/878117-72957-27-720.jpg)
Lot of work and I'm not sure is this good...
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/1/4/0/884140-72957-88-720.jpg)
Painting the stripes onto the back of the fuselage.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/1/3/9/884139-72957-30-720.jpg)
All masks gone. I guess I get used to the blue stripes.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/1/4/1/884141-72957-11-720.jpg)
Detailing the "solar panels". I wanted some blackish back with some texture, like the real solar panels have the grid on top of the solar cell. I though I would get some "griddish looking" results if I paint the base with black, add some chipping fluid, paint silver on top of that and then chip most of the silver paint. The result is not as I imagined, but it will do. I guess the Vallejo Air Aluminium does not chip nicely.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/1/4/2/884142-72957-33-720.jpg)
White stripes on the other side of the solar panels.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/1/4/3/884143-72957-28-720.jpg)
Damn masking tape teared of some paint. I guess I didn't clean the parts well enough.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/4/1/1/884411-72957-16-720.jpg)
CA-glue failed, but it was easy to fix with more CA-glue.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/4/1/0/884410-72957-57-720.jpg)
Decals are on place. I'm waiting for the Micro Sol to dry.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/1/2/3/886123-72957-99-720.jpg)
Solar panels are in place. Next step is weathering...
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/9/2/2/886922-72957-62-720.jpg)
There is no typical weather in space, so what kind of weathering you use on spaceship? I tried out of curiosity the A.MIG Spaceship Wash and Spaceship Streaking. Also a little bit of panel lines.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/9/2/1/886921-72957-53-720.jpg)
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/0/9/1/888091-72957-61-720.jpg)
Sternail is ready! I lastly added matt varnish on the model and the nameplate.

![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/0/9/5/888095-72957-10-720.jpg)
The whale decal got some damage during weathering.

I never understand why it needs a camo in space, but the rule of😎 make it, well done

I guess the spacecraft doesn't need camo except maybe full gray or black to make it less visible. Pitch-black would have been pretty boring though. I could argue that near some planet's atmosphere blue camo might be useful.

I would say that camo is not always about stealth. but alos idenitification, fears, disturbance etc. ? in any case great work !

Here is an image of the spaceship Nautilus that I used as inspiration. The model is now ready!
