I tried different backgrounds, but I still have issues with olive drab or similar colors (on black backgrounds the dark planes planes are always overexposed). I have an older DSLR, and it's dynamic range is not the best. I really struggle to find the proper lighting and camera settings for those dark colored models.
I will continue experimenting, but I will not have time in the near future.

Just my two cents, try spot light measuring on the plane. It should help with the dark background.

Yes, that was so far the best, but still not good. I am not sure what the root cause is. The backgrounds in my cheap lightbox are quite glossy, one of the next thing to try is to replace them with matt surfaces.

The photographs are very OK the way they are. I just thought they would be even better with the darker background.

Thanks guys - I think the top color is a bit more green than the original, but it was a quick project to use a few free days on the best way. I learned a lot from my mistakes and challenges on this build. There are plenty of other options on the Xtradecal sheet, and I am quite sure I will build another GR.3 from Airfix. These are great little kits.
