First job is to identify the modifications needed to the panels layout

Album image #2
First cut is done. No coming back possible now. The shorter nose is one of the most visible difference of the early Anton

Album image #3
Got my best tool out to cut the early vents in thin plastic

Album image #4
Scrapping the kit vents to get the surface flush

Album image #5
I will form the cut sheet over the kit one to get the embossed profile behind the exhaust line

Album image #6
forming the curve

Album image #7
The modded vent ready to be glued back in place, with a slight offset back to have the new panel flush with the other. dont forget to trim the middle fuselage joint a little to have the same total width once the fuselage is assembled.

Album image #8
Back in position, like nothing never happened

Mr Color H68 and 69 were used. Then darkened and lightened mixes were sprayed on the points of interest to get an uneven pattern.
As you can notice, the surface is pretty rough, with rivets protruding badly over. That will be adressed after.

Album image #66
Album image #67
ven with that rough surface texture, the rivets are not very noticable when you distance yourself from the model.

Album image #68

The torture session can now begin. For this I "soften" the fresh paint with mineral spirits (work small areas or it goes quickly out of control) and strike it with the edge of a scalpel to create weak points in the paint surface.
Then the surface is rubbed with q tips, towel and sanding sponge. If you goes slowly the effect is quite controllable.
the rubbing treatement is already softening the surface and the hard edges of the rivets are leveling themselves with the rest, leaving just a metalic spot were the edge was.

Album image #69
Album image #70
Album image #71

Then the model is back at the spraybooth and an heavilly thinned paint is layered over the scratches and the rivets to blend them in.
Again if you work small and heavilly diluted, you have total control of the effect.

Album image #72
Album image #73

And i tryed a macro shot, but the cell phone is not at its best in this area..

Album image #74

Again, more distanced view : the surface texture is quite softened and the rivets less noticable

Byebye the crosses, hopefully the paint was still fresh, the damage is limited and repair should be straightforward.

The hasegawa gear legs are notoriously too long and shock absorber have been measured on an uncompressed sample. The general stance once assembled looks off. The gear legs have thus been shortened to allow a more natural pose.

Hi Roland, thanks for joining me, i am very fan of your work. Cheers.

Some panel work done already.
Mainly working on the engine vents, wich needed a lot of trial to achieve the final result shown here. from trying to drill then on the parts (total failure), designing them for 3 printing, to cutting the thin sheet with the cameo.

Got the cutter out again to help in the making of more accurate cockpit. New consoles, done in 3 layers, and the rear bulkhead are done

Hi Clifford, thanks for joining in.
I got the cutter out again as I was rather unsatisfied with the edgy cuts of the first cockpit consoles. So back with a new version. But this time I sanded smooth the sheet before getting the parts out.
Rlm66 and detail painting went straight after.
Then airscale's wonderful placard are laid for the finishing touch

Small update on the instrument panel. The yahu panel (for a5) I intended to use is quite wrong for an a4. This one is cut in tiny sheet and spiced up with airscale bezels and placards. Still some work needed on the lower part.

Final shots for the cockpit. Hard to deal with Black over darkened grey and soot. And not much stays visible once the fuselage is assembled. However airscale's stencils and bezels still stands out so I consider this as a win. Next job is on the engine and motorisation. Cheers

While waiting for the last bit to pop in the mail for the cockpit. I got the front part modded in order for the motor installation. The upper cowling is made removable with the help of magnets. And a switch and battery slot are hidden underneath. The engine gets wired up and painted. Not much will be visible behind the cooling fan

Hi Felix & Welcome !
Got the ailerons modded this weekend. Strangely the kit molded ribs still appears after a coat of paint. Will see if I redo or leave them as that.
Spinner assembly is completed as well.
And I started making the belts. Hgw PE with Tamiya tape as the textile was very pixelated and odd looking.

Thanks again for your nice comments Roland!
Got some work done on the wheel underside area. Cartridges chutes are hollowed and extended upwards. And the mount has been hollowed as well. Final assembly is not far now.

A few general shots. The main airframe is one piece of plastic. Masked and readyied for painting

Started the rivet job on this lil one. Coats of Tamiya LP70 alterned with sanding. Once good to go, the rivet pattern previously cut is applied and a few coats of Tamiya LP38 are sprayed over. This still need a slight sponge sand to smooth the edges. But this will be done once the whole airframe is treated.

Treehugger
It might help giving the "punched" rivets a little touch of sanding imo.
16 April 2021, 10:18
Mathieu
Hi Treehugger, of course it's scheduled when the whole thing is done.

Looks great! What is the green material stuffed into the wheel wells?
2 May 2021, 20:01
Mathieu
Hi Rui. Thanks! This is liquid mask (mr hobby's) poured over Kleenex.
Cheers
2 May 2021, 20:12
Rui
Thanks Mathieu. I have tried just masking tape and it too much work, so I tried moulding blue tack into the space is is easier but hard to remove without damaging the work. I may give the Kleenex and liquid mask a try. Thanks again.

Thank you Clifford, but you got the wrong name ?
Finally got an eagle marking on the fuselage. Will get the cowl and overall touch up next on the list.

I see where you're going with the cowl and it looks great!
Also, I quietly basked in the misdirected credit ?

Thank you Clifford ! :-D
Some progress forward, and backward with the marking.
Got the wrong wing crosses on, so off it went while the paint was still fresh.
On the forward side, the cowl was painted and rubbed to match the rest of the airframe.
Next is the underside.

Some progress on the Wurger. Was afraid it would gather too much dust and disappear. Rivets applied on the belly. Ready for some RLM fun
3 June 2021, 20:14
Mathieu
While the belly is still at work, I designed this mask and sprayed it right away. Ppl should now know where to walk on the wings and stop putting foo.. fingerprints all over it
5 June 2021, 16:48
Mathieu
Exhaust stains still at wip on the belly, fuselage ones are hard to spot over the black, but are giving a greyish tone over it with natural light.
Cheers.

Thank you Clifford, very kind of you sir.
While someboring surface repair work is happening on the wings, I also worked on something motivating on the belly. Liquid stains over the airflow grime.
Cheers

Gave a try, and giving a thumbs up to 1Man Army new mask set. Chirugically cut (guess it's laser cut) on a low tack kabuki material.
Painted on stencils are now a reality !
Kinda impressed by the product.
Cheers.

Trying to get this little Focker to the finish line before ZM release its own.
Tail wheel is painted and fixed, as well as the yellow tail. Shades of smoke, black and brown were sprayed around the exhaust area to get the black a little less monotone.
Now onto the main wheels
Cheers.

Mathieu
After Some discussion with Luftwaffe experten, I decided to strip off the white walkway (too large, too visible, and wrong color) and re spray it with smaller dots, and with red paint.
It's much more concealed now, and much happier with this version.
8 September 2021, 12:54
Mathieu
Final assembly started. Got the gear legs detailled and attached. The rear canopy is from revell as the stock one width is incorrect for an opened canopy. I tried to stress it to conform but cracking appeared on the stressed areas. The marking on the compensators are painted with the help of the 1manarmy's sheet of stencils. Only the mg151 tubes and wheels are missing now
3 October 2021, 16:59
Clifford Keesler
Looking very nice.
3 October 2021, 23:05
Mathieu
Thank you Clifford! Much appreciated.
Got the gear legs mounted and shortened. They are notoriously too long on the hasegawa model. Think the stance is more natural after some cirurgy.
All is left is: Textures tyres, mg 151 gluing and a third pass on the side panels exhausts.
Cheers

it looks amazing. love the details added in the cockpit. and the real stencils certainly beat any wet decal. and the paint job (specially the efforts about the rivets etc) is just fantastic.
