So many pieces to paint silver 🙂
Am I building an oil derrick?
Look at these chonkers! 🙂
Final assembly and decal time. Unfortunately the decals were so old they were falling apart. Clearcoating the decal sheet helped hold them together. They had Goodyear decals for the tires, which I didn't think looked too good...
...so I ended up taking them off again. I might go back and paint the raised Goodyear embossing at some point (but probably not). 🙂 Grunged up the engine a bit with some blackwash, and got a base coat of blue paint on the body/spoiler.
test-fitting everything before decal-fest. (There's a big decal that covers up the ragged edge between the white & blue, don't worry!) 🙂
One last look before shit hit the fan.
The red stripe was supposed to be a series of decals. But they were still so brittle, and the glue so dried-up, I ended up having to mask it off and paint it instead. Dealing with masking tape ended up breaking off ALL the fins at one point or another, so had to reglue, repaint, etc. And repainting one thing inevitably messed up another... ugh.
But, ok, eventually it all worked out. Got all the stripes cleaned up pretty well, got all the decals on well enough to clearcoat them into place. (And got all the buckled clearcoat sanded back down and smoothed out... whew!)

Inherited this kit. No particular love of dragsters, it just seemed weird enough that it would be fun to build. 🙂
