Fantastic result - would love to have a step by step description of the wood effect, such as what paints you used for the base, grain and varnish effects. great effort on the autumn leaf camo as well.

Thank you for all your kind comments. Uwe the wood effect was fairly simple with the stencil (see picture) 1) apply a base coat of light tan (or similar color). 2) after drying use stencil to spray a darker brown for the contrasting wood grain. Note before I had the stencil I actually just used a regular pencil or a colored pencil an drew the grain. It just takes little longer. Have reference picture available while you draw the grain. 3) after applying the grain and letting it dry I over sprayed the whole area with Tamiya clear orange. Using clear red or clear yellow I can control the tone. For something like the wood on an Albatros I would use more of a yellow tone. Try practicing on a spare piece first. Hope that helps.

Album info

This 1/72 Special Hobby, Lloyd C.V really tested my construction skills, but I still enjoyed the challenge. I had to come up with creative ways of attaching the flying surfaces from wings and control surfaces. The radiator was a particular challenge as well as placement of the upper wing. The markings are Austro-Hungarian of Flik 53/ D. The Schwarzlose machine gun, was from Gas Patch. I made the gunner rings from copper wire. The wire spoke wheels are PE. The decals are from various other kits as the Kit decals cracked and fell apart. I used the sponge packing material in the Gas Patch products to paint the upper surface camouflage. I used a PE stencil for wood grain effects. The Lloyd C.V used an all wood wing and fuselage construction.
