Mom’s Duster

Got some good progress done on a surprise Christmas build for my mom! She loves her cars and this Duster was one of her favorites that she still talks about. A Twister package with the slant six, floor shift and white vinyl seats. No hood scoops or spoiler on hers, just the graphics and the shark tooth grille and the nice wheels. Should be a simple build. Slant 6 robbed from this Belvedere build. 64 Belvedere | Album by kyledehart5 (1:25). Just some minor engine bay modifications needed to get it to slide in there.

Engine wired and quick alternator bracket added. Have a bit of blue to touch up but the engine is basically ready for installation into the chassis.

Interior done, chassis done. Decals done. Clicking right along. Would have liked to have gotten some glass in and drying but alas, I ran out of time and must get some sleep. Work has been killing my hobby time.

Good and fast progress! I'm also a fan of the I6 🙂 Somehow always cool to see in such a car.

Mom had a nice rig!

She did bossy. She's always been a car person and driven neat things, all the way up to her current MX-5. Got my love of racing from my dad but she's the reason I fell in love with cars outside of racing.

Thanks Jv. Came out pretty well. Trusty Tamiya rattle can in light blue. Work has been killing me lately but I'm hoping to finish this up soon.

Great progress so far. My best bud in HS has a dark green 72 Gold Duster with the 225 "leaning tower of power".

Haven't got a clue what a slant 6 is, I do know that I like how this car looks in blue. Nice work Kyle!

Martin thank you! My mom's duster was basically a base model with appearance package so it came with the inline 6. The slant 6 is the very oddly designed inline 6 that mopar used for 100 years in their poverty spec vehicles. Solid, if not particularly exciting. 170-225 cubic inches over the years with reverse flow cooling and inclined at a 30 degree angle from vertical. I didn't know ALL of that off the top of my head but read a lot of info when researching the engine for this build. Lol. The angle is obviously why it's known as the Slant 6 because the bizarre lean is the first thing you notice.

Calling it done. This is an excellent kit and the little ex-Lindberg 225 is an excellent engine model as well. I think the Duster is an underrated mopar product. A great looking car. All that remains is getting it in a display case and waiting on Christmas.

Thanks Bob, much appreciated!

Thanks Jv, I try to improve every model. Doesn't always work out that way.

Christian, thank you! The in-line 6 was a nice little build by itself and fit in great.

Thanks James, I'm fortunate I usually have some spare time to get to the work table every day.

Let's see. Woodgrained dash, black washed grille and cowl, two tone interior, air cleaner decal, flat black V-belt, plug wires with boots, chrome trim and straight decals. I think your doing GREAT!

Kyle DeHart
Thank you Bill! Much appreciate the kind words. I also had an alternator bracket at one point, although I've just noticed that it seems to have exited stage left at some point. Lol. I'll have to sneak another one on there. I must admit to getting lazy on some of those sometimes. (Plug wire boots, so tedious). And my decals are not always straight. Those long, thin ones are a pain!! But thanks again, I'm really happy with how this one went.

If Mopar can do a 30 degree slanted inline6, I've got a revolutionary idea! Let's do a V8 at 180 degrees!

The car looks great Kyle. Tamiya TS-23?
And I agree, your builds get better with each one.

Kyle DeHart
Thank you Neuling!

Martin, thank you! Much appreciated. And yes, indeed, this is painted in TS-23.
