P-51D-5
The gear bay has not worked well for me in the past attempts at this kit. In the past, I started by painting the main spar yellow, painting most of the rest silver, and then glueing. This time I am going to assemble before painting. It may mean everything is going to be silver, but that is better than a pro fit that effects the rest of the build.
The 357th Fighter Group provides lots of choices on how to paint a P-51D. I am hoping my 2002 Eagle Strike IP4804 sheet has held up, and will model "Hurry Home Honey". Eagle Strike instructions are that it had NMF on top of the wings. I am thinking that means they were issued with factory finished Aluminum paint, that was latter covered with Olive Drab paint and Invasion Stripes. Some time later, the wings were cleaned off with Gas and taken back to the NMF.
A SMALL ACT OF FAITH. Covering a model with a wash is not something I learned about until a few years ago. So this still makes me a little uneasy. I have found that Flory Wash is very forgiving, simple and fast. Takes about 20 minutes for it to dry.
