The last scale model I built was a little over 20 years ago. I've continued to dabble with miniature wargaming, but only began painting again in the last few years. One thing led to another and I decided to return to building and painting 1:35 scale AFVs.
The internet has made it much easier to find and learn about new techniques and materials that I just wasn't aware of even a couple of years ago. With that, I decided to buy a cheaper kit to start back at. Something that I wouldn't be too upset about if it wasn't perfect. I've got a lot of my favourite tanks stashed away, and want to be able to do them justice.
New techniques learned and experimented with on the build:
- Cast textures
- Weld beading
- Photo Etch (including bending and soldering)
- Cleaning seams properly (not something I cared about when I was younger!)
- Filling gaps
- Fusion 360 modelling and resin printing replacement gun barrel + jerry cans
- Guitar string radio antenna
- Replacing grab handles with copper wire versions
New techniques learned and experimented with on the painting/weathering:
- Airbrushing colour modulation
- Varnishing
- Enamels and Oils for Pinwashes/Filters/Weathering etc
- Pigments and arcylic texture effects for dirt
- Graphite Pencils
