In 1940, the Light Armored Brigade (Egypt) became the 7th Armoured Brigade under command of the 7th Armoured Division. The Brigade fought in the Libyan Battles of 1941 (Compass, Brevity, Battleax, Crusader) but shipped out to Burma in early 1942 to fight the new Japanese threat. The Brigade assisted in the British withdrawal to the Indian Border just ahead of the monsoon season.
In 1943, the Brigade returned to the Middle East and deployed to Italy in April 1944 for the duration under command of I Canadian Corps.
