Nice start, cockpit is perfect. This is new Eduard tooling? How it fits, and what about overall engineering?

@David: thank you very much for your comment! Fit is nearly perfect everywhere, I wrote in the note of the photo the only point where I had to use a file, hope you will find it useful! Engeneering is really good and quite revolutionary in some points, instructions MUST be read carefully, better read the Eduard June Info too.
Guy and Lukasz, happy to have you on board!

Hi Andrea. I have been keenly waiting to see this built up since it was announced. Delighted that it seems you will be the first to post a full build report! It's looking magnificent already! I shall follow eagerly of course!

Thanks everybody for your kind appreciation! I wanted to try this since I bought the Hobby 2000 boxing, but later on I discovered that this particular a/c was a G-1 and no other info was available, I decided then to use the Hobby Boss kit I had in my stash with the minimal modification required to calm my modeling consciousness...
I used a UNI-POSCA pen, is water based paint available from stationery and hardware stores in Italy. This is what is wrote on it that it may be useful for a search

Brilliant work Andrea. I bought a paint pen like this months ago thinking it would be ideal for Lutfwaffe squiggles. I haven't yet got round to using it, but your example shows it works brilliantly. That and your talent of course!

Great job!
But why was the Hobby Boss kit chosen?
Immediately we see a very thin fuselage.

Thanks a lot David and Denis!
To be honest, I didn't notice the thin fuselage but accuracy wasn't my goal with this build , with hypothetical code markings.
Good to know anyway, thanks for pointing it out!

Thx a lot @ David, James and Andy, and to bughunter too: you are right, Eduard struts are thicker than Roden's ones, but the kit in its whole is better... it will be nice if someone will 3D print them in a more to-scale thickness!

Finished!!! This was a really enjoyable and fun build, I really liked every stages of it, thanks to Eduard's great kit engineering, Aviattic and Eduard decals, Gaspatch 3D Spandau 08/15,oil colours, Uniposca oil pastels and Tamiya pigment and last but not least, Uschi Superfine elastic thread for the few rigging needed.
Thanks for following me in this build, now time to finish that second Fokker waiting in the queue!

This won't be in FAA colours as I don't have any more FAA decals for this era of phantom so it's going to have to RAF.

Hi Dave pain in the but when something like this happens to paint..?
It's all a learning curve.
I snapped a canopy in two recently.
Don't let it put you off, Velejo paints are very reliable and don't let you down.
I purchase a basic colours set when l first set out and never looked back.
Good luck with sorting it out..👍👍

Shame about the crazing as the model was looking very good. Do you know if it was the paint or the top coat which cracked?

Mr D , nothing puts me off, as you say it's all a learning curve. Gorby, I "think" it was too heavy a paint coat,. I've stopped using pure acrylics. I now use Tamiya acrylics thinned 50/50 or more with cellulose thinners (and a mask) gives a super smooth finish and no primer needed to key

I've not heard of Tamiya acrylics being thinned with cellulose before. Normally I use the Tamiya thinners and find that works very well.

If you thin with cellulose (and leave it for a few hours) it breaks the particles down and gives a ridiculously smooth finish as well as etching into the plastic.

Hi Dave 👋
It's bit to Harsh for modeling Cellulose.
Isopropanol alcohol or Tamiya thinner is better and safer.
Cracking can happen if X2 paint coats are drying at quite different times.

Whatever works for you…with pure acrylics I've had issues with " lifting" ymmv. Just don't try it with anything other than Tamiya. Tamiya is NOT a proper acrylic . "Proper" ie water based acrylics just turn to jelly 😉
BTW the FAA phantom was done with Tamiya acrylics thinned with Tamiya thinners.

Wow! That's quite the save. 👍🏼 Really nice repaint. 👍🏼 I like using lacquers like Mr. Color, MRP or SMS and occasionally thin Tamiya 'acrylics' with lacquer thinner as well. They spray fabulously and if I need to touch up anything I just come in with brushes and use water or acrylic thinner as to have the same color.
