SkyhikerWhat does that aqueous black surfacer 1000 thin down with? Isn't aqueous a water based paint? Does it work well as a primer or does it peel off like the acrylic "primers"?

S MI haven't tried to thin it with water although it is promised to work. I could airbrush mr.surfacer 1000 without thinning with my old 0,4mm needle airbrush, but in case I want to thin it I use Mr.Hobby Color Thinner 400 (turqoise colored bottle). I think this works very well as a primer. It sticks and it can be smoothed with sand paper.

AlbertoNice work so far, watching! I also use aqueous black surfacer. I thin it 50% with Tamiya's X20A, spray it with a 0.4 mm needle at 15-17 psi. It works a treat.

SkyhikerThanks for the info on the surfacer. I'm looking for alternatives to using heavy chemicals, and hopefully this will be an answer.

S MWelcome, mates! 😄 @Skyhiker I just tried and it seems you can thin aqueous surfacer with water. I didn't paint anything with it yet.

littleblackbearThe foamed PVC was a nice medium that I'm sure I'll find a project for, but for now I just found scribing and cutting just a bit too fiddly to get right. That's more of a skill problem than a problem with the material. But I have a hot wire cutter that makes very quick work of foam, and the brick carving process is far more enjoyable for me on XPS.

Jan PetersCool subject, as a resident of Arnhem this is special to me 🙂Although you show some great craftsmanship, this sort of houses aren't typical for Arnhem. These houses are more appropriate for Amsterdam. If you look at pictures of Arnhem and Oosterbeek from 1944 you will see more houses build in in the 1800s, and stately houses.
Just to let you know, in case you want your diorama to be historically correct.
I don't want to rain on your parade!

littleblackbearThanks Jan. I need to update the project it's attached to. I'd already decided that it wouldn't be going into the Market Garden diorama given the regional architecture inaccuracies you pointed out.
I modeled this after houses on the canal streets in Harlingen after spending some time there (and elsewhere around Fryslan).

These kind of buildings are typical for many areas where fighting took place.
Also note the fences, these are also very common (many are still there, even today) I will try and find some more websites with pictures of the area, and share them here.
