I-16 Type 24 build

A very cute diorama for a cute little plane! The I-16 has such a cartoonish shape. The patchy snow and grass both look very convincing!
Thanks! I started by applying a PVA and gravel mixture to the ground, then painted on a dark brown earth color. I added some static grass, and a few tufts - leaving some areas bare. Then I airbrushed over a light tan/brown (I ended up using ICM deck tan, actually) to simulate an overall frost look on everything. Finally I added the AK Snow Sprinkles with a small spoon. It leaves a sort of melted snow with a hint of sparkles, the look I was going for. When wet, the snow sprinkles was sticky and I just pushed the oil barrels and crates into it, and it seems to have dried with a good hold. My first use of the AK product, I will be trying out more diorama effects from them in the future.
I was introduced to AK Snow Sprinkles in a YouTube video on "SpruesNBrews Scale Modeling" channel.
I totally agree with the above! A very interesting and beautiful diorama, and the snow seems super realistic🙂
thanks. excellent results,to be honest I only see now, that is 1/72, WOW, even better than I thought!!

Completed today as part of a "Winter Warrior" group build. My first ever diorama. Also, being silly, I finished the I-16 using only ICM primers, paints, and varnishes. The ICM model was a bit of a let down, the paints came through mostly OK. The top of the left wing was incredibly thin along the back edge, and the 6 piece cowling was frustrating. I had some huge gaps in wing seams, but I stayed with it. This is an older ICM tooling, so I suppose I can forgive the frustration. I used AK snow sprinkles for the first time, and I like the look of it. I didn't want several feet of fluffy snow, did not make sense to me for an airfield, so this slight snow/melting snow look was what I wanted. Playing with this build will likely lead me to do basic dioramas for most of my aircraft now.
