Pete Chapouris (1942-2017) 1934 Ford Coupe known as the California Kid thanks to the Howie Horowitz 1974 movie of the same name. As a 10 year old I saw this movie on TV and it left an indelible mark. The taillights were made from Tamiya products. The headlights in the kit where terrible being the pin type snap kit versions so I found normal clear lenses from a Jeep kit and installed round aluminum foil (reflector) pieces in the lights before gluing the lenses. The bumpers were made with leftover sprue and Evergreen styrene. Wheels are kit bash parts.
- Sept. 2024. I was never happy with the side exhaust pipes and the kit headlights. I found the pipes from my AMT Pinto kit were a better fit so I swapped. The lights were a bit more of a challenge so I used some chrome hubcaps and left over lenses with a little tinfoil between. I am happier now with the look as the lamps are more to scale as well as the pipes to the real car in the movie guise.
