This will be fun to watch. Wonder if this FY 1958 funding given "8" RCN.

I know how that is. I never knew the Army tested HC-1A, all ways thought it was a Navy/Marine bird from the get go.

@Clifford: check out helis.com/database/modelorg/423/ USAF tested a couple of New York Airways 107s pre-delivery and then ordered 12 as YH-49 / CH-46B. They had a pretty short delivery timeline, and when they visited the factory and saw none on the production line, they cancelled the contract and ordered 3 Sikorksy CH-3B Sea Kings before eventually ordering the S-61R / CH-3C.

Dutch. If USAF procured for ARMY then 58-5514/16 might apply. I did not check Joe's US ARMY listing for FY 58.

Phil, I have researched this one pretty well. The Army did contract with Vertol for ten YHC-1A (V-107) protoypes, but amended the contract while only three were under construction and used the remaining funds for ordering five larger YHC-1B (Vertol 114) Chinooks, 59-04982-6. Trust me. I've talked with Piasecki & Vertol factory guys. Besides, I have a copy of the factory production line sequence. R/ Dutch

The additional five RCNs 904982 /6 (ordinal) then can be excluded; and the inital three FY 58 (RCNs 85514/16) are contenders. The tenth you did not address. I don t see a conflict here.

PS My HS sat on perhaps the highest elevation in the County and during the Conflict years the C-47 test hops were in clear view.

Wow! Had no idea the Army peeps had any interest in the Frogs! Had a few flights in they during my Marine days. The crew chiefs made clear that they were to be notified immediately if we noticed that the aircraft STOPPED leaking! ROFL

Just like the Chinook, the only reason it did not leak oil or hyd. fluid was because there wasn't any. I flew on the "frogs" when I was stationed at MCAS Beaufort once in awhile as a Flight medic. We had four that were SAR birds.
