In the closeups the decals seem to be a little yellowed. Were they old?

That's some inspiring work on that Tomcat. I have that kit kicking around somewhere, never knew it could look so good!

Ulf, thanks! And yes, quite old decals, early 90's and plenty thick. Used testors and solvaset to get them to lay down, the adhesive was basically gone. I got two replacement sheets sent, both were as bad as the first, and debated the sunlight trick but at the end of the day it came down to time - I had to move, so I had to finish it prior to packing. I came upon a fourth set which are much newer - maybe I'll re-do them in the future, but for now I'm letting it be.

Boxcut, thanks as well! It was a fun build until I reached the decals. I was surprised at how well parts fit overall, as I'd heard mixed reviews of this one! Worth building for sure.
