It seems like a good kit, lots of aftermarket included too! Hoping to get stuck in this weekend.

Looking great mate! I'll grab a seat as well. I've got the sister kit to this one and AFIK it's only the decals that differ.

Thanks guys, I'll be very pleased when I get the fuselage together, I'm hoping that will go well!
You are correct I think in that the "Jugs over Germany" is the same apart from the marking options.

I spent most of my bench time over the past two weeks finishing and sanding seams and then rescribing the lost detail. Tonight I added the Master gun barrels and then got a coat of Mr Surfacer black primer on.

Lots of work done recently, we are in the middle of selling our house which has eaten up my modelling time, but I'm nearly finished the paintjob and hope to get the decals on next

The paint 'shop' looks the money, and the work on the tail stripes is wonderful. !!🙂
The painting for me is always filled with dread, but once it starts, all is good, and I am really looking forward to your finished product mate. 🙂 🙂 👍
Cheers. 👍

Thanks guys! I actually enjoy masking which is nice as it does lead to good paintwork. Getting close to the finish line on this one, looking forward to it!

I agree 100%, I love the colourful markings applied to aircraft in the second world war, and in the earlier parts of the cold war, the latest modern grey markings while practical are very boring! I've added pictures of the USAAF markings now painted on using Maketar masks, Mr Aqueous Color "Thunderbird Blue" and Mr Paint ANA601 Insignia White

It's good that we can still indulge ourselves with the brightly coloured aircraft prior to the 'drab' greys of today. 🙂
The USN especially 👍
Thanks for the colour tips too Ronan. 🙂
And I really do like the different metals on the wings you have done. Most effective. 👍

Glad you noted the variation in the metal on the wings! The base colour is super silver metallic, then the gun compartment covers are dark aluminium, and some of the top panels on the wings and the control surfaces are duraluminum (all Mr Paint paints). It was quite a bit of masking but I like the effect!

It is great to see just how much effort you have put in to get the best result Ronan, I am most impressed at your skills.
Cheers and well done. 🙂

Thanks again Kerry! I won't get any more work done on it for a week now as I'm off for a holiday tomorrow with the family, but I plan to get it all done the following week. I want to get it done by the 10th of April for a group build on Britmodeller and hopefully I should do so (I've already finished the undercarriage, bombs, wheels and so on, so a lot of the busy work done!)

Fitted the motor and cowling tonight, plus assembled the propeller. Nearly ready to finish the decals and markings but a bit of paint touching up is needed first. Getting there!

Thank you! I often see other people posting about how much they hate masking but not me, I actually enjoy it! (Both putting it on and taking it off!)

You'll never know if it's good or not until you remove the masking so it's an intense part of the building to remove the masking...

I like to get the masking off as soon as possible, mainly to avoid that 'feathering' that happens after the paint has dried, so while it has a little 'softness', I find it is a good time to get it done. 🙂 Then there is always the running of a super sharp scalpel blade along the edge of the masking to 'break' that line of paint, just as long as you don't 'score' the underlying surface. :-/

What I have found using the new Mr Paint's that I have is that they go on nice and thin (yet cover well) and hence not much build up against the tape. I'm a big fan!

The model looks great, i have it in my stash but have never worked with resin before, and i also bought some Alclad paints and have never used these before either, so i guess it was put on the back burner for that reason but after seeing this i might dig it out after my current projects are finished.

Thanks guys! I'll take better photos tomorrow and post them up. I find resin good to work with although the cockpit floor is a pain to work with on this kit as you have to remove a big chunk of casting material to get it ready for assembly. Other than that I think it went together well!
