Spitfire Mk IIa
Beginning with the modification to the kit wings to accept the Barracuda wing correction set.
One the difference in the radiator intake ramp from the kit part.
Installation of radiators and corrected oil cooler.
Test fitting the cockpit. Not Tamiya good but surprisingly good.
Barracuda corrected seat and armor installed.
Used the kit decal for IP. Used bondic for lenses. This is going to be a closed cockpit so detail level doesn’t need to be as high.
HGW fabric belt installed.
Comparison to the Tamiya IX.
Sanded down the step created by the back window.
Note green tinted windscreen.
Checking seams. Reapplying rivets and panel lines.
Beginning black base priming.
Starting the marbling of the sky type S over the black base.
Painted the rounders using Montex masks.
K painted with masks.
Moody under shot.
Going to do some chipping at the wing roots. Alclad and chipping fluid are down.
Starting the camo. I’m using the masks, painting the dark green, then coming back over that with blue tax and the dark earth.
Working my way inboard with paint. I’m using pre cut masks as template so I get the proportions right then backfilling.
More dark earth.
Chipping.
Different light. Different angle. Chipping fluid works reasonably well. The pilots side, per reference photos, will be significantly heavier.
I labored over whether the walk line goes over or under the roundel. The consensus seems to be that the line does not encroach on the roundel.
left is eagleparts correct spinner and blade for this AC; middle are Revell fantasy parts; right are prop/spinner for a Mk V or sea fire.
Finished! Ready for glamour shots.

Gordon the Barracuda set is very very nice. A little careful surgery and it goes in without a problem. I recommend their seat and armor correction too.

Moritz it's actually a really solid kit, probably more fun than the Tamiya (with a bit more work). Sadly out of the box it's closer to a mk V than a II. The Barracuda correction set is a must as well as finding a prop/spinner correction. All said and done I've spent almost 3/4 of the cost of the Tamiya kit to get this kit corrected.

Another fabulous build Derek. I've just ordered the Iron Maiden "Aces High" kit, it's basically this kit with a decal change and Eddy in the cockpit. I shale look for the after market parts on your recommendation.
