Star Wars Episode I Royal Naboo N-1 Starfighter

Album image #1
The Royal Naboo N-1 Starfighter

Album image #2
I have been dreaming about this craft since 1999.. Now the Jedi training begins..

Album image #3
I’m very surprised by the chrome molded parts, there’s some crazy awesome rainbow effects going on..

Album image #4
Simplistic detail in the cockpit..

Album image #5
Ready for Model Masters grey primer..

Album image #6
Cockpit primed, Anakin primed white leaving some yellow undertone, canopy masked.

Album image #7
Not bad for a first attempt. I need to learn how to sand and polish before I start masking, and better tape for curves would definitely help also. Start over

Album image #8
A work in progress...

Album image #9
Some shading with oil paints added.

Album image #10
I was very excited at this point! It turned out to be such a poor fitting kit.. I may never fully recover..

Album image #11
Like a new day at dawn..

Album image #12
What is that? Is it a dragonfly?

Album image #13
“Master Qui-Gon said to stay in this cockpit, so that’s what I’m doing R-2”

Album image #14
The canopy really got the best of me. Sometimes your best has to be good enough..

“Now THIS is podracing!”

I build this in the past, looking forward to see your work. The chrome parts are a challange

Cockpit is primed, Anakin is primed white, leaving some yellow undertones, and I'll use different washes to bring him out.. The canopy is masked, (my first one, actually) while I try and color match to the body, and contemplate using enamels vs. acrylics. I welcome your ideas and comments..

Looking forward to see how that chrome turns out. I've seen some really nice on YouTube from the Alclad line up and in person with AK Xtreme Metal. I'll have to get this kit at some point so I have an excuse to get a set of those paints.

I really like the chrome as it is right out of the box, there are awesome iridescent and hologram like rainbows going on that I would never be able to replicate. I may try a filter of some kind to tone down the chrome possibly.. I'm on a crash course of learning how to do a proper aircraft canopy..

Awesome glad to hear about the chrome. Looking forward to see how you finish this and the Threepio kit.

Feel free to PM me / add or whatever, I can go over what I do for the canopies.

Thanks GamerLevelDad. On my first attempt, I made lots of rookie mistakes, the worst one was jumping the gun with the masking and paint, when I should have learned how to sand and polish the canopy first..

you can use Gauzy Agent from AK to "polish" the canopy when the color is already applied

Nice job. Tricky to tell apart from the metal version of this kit. I picked up a couple way back when Asda were selling SW kits off in bulk.

Thank you all very much. 😄 And a special nod to you aircraft enthusiasts because canopy work is hard!

Keying canopy frames is a real pain. WW2 canopies are the hardest with all those bars to paint. I just hand paint under a big magnifier in small increments. Ig my hand starts to get unsteady, I just let it dry for a while, so wiping any future mistakes with water don't put me back to the start.
