Me too. Few years ago I built it...and gave to my friends' son. But I've purchased the next kit😄

The separate trailing edges having been attached to the wings, I now face the dreaded task of filling the resulting gaps and differences in level without destroying the nicely-moulded corrugations. Why the kit was designed this way is unfathomable to me.

That's one of the fundamental never-to-be-answered questions of our (modellers' I mean 🙂) reality... What is more, some lenghts of these parts are supposed to represent the ailerons. Keep my fingers crossed!

Yes, the separation at the ailerons at least is fine - I certainly will not mess around with that!

Thanks - I am contemplating simply covering the gap between the leading and trailing wing segments with 1mm tape - it will not be prototypical, but it is likely to look a lot better than any filling I can do, given the corrugated surfaces.

Gaps filled and lightly sanded, but the result is hideous, as can be seen from the photo of the undersurfaces. We are going to go with the tape (2mm in the end) and pretend that the wings needed to be strengthened after one of the many crashes.
Either that, or modify exhaust and landing gear, get the Blue Rider decals, and do the Tintin aeroplane...
