Very impressive "Fishbed". Rare variant and interesting historical note. 👍
Thank you for the nice words. I am indeed interested sometimes also in less known topics and now I am in some MiG-21 mania trying to cover as many interesting subject as possible (Egypt, Syria, Vietnam, maybe North-Korea, DDR/East Germany)..
Very nice and good timing to cover your Fishbedmania using the latest Eduard's kit 🙂
True, these kits are just great! I mean there are rather little things that need maybe improvement, but also out-of-the-box they look splendid.
Album info
Romanian MiG-21 MF with the colors of the 90's before the LanceR upgrade.
Eduard 1:72 Profipack. Mostly out of the box, except some cables for the landing gear and a minor addition to the cupola. The exhaust ist the resin of ResKit.
The pilot Dan Ghica unfortunately died in 2006 with this machine, while refusing to eject in order not to crash over a populated area following technical problems.
Most of the Romanian MiG-21 MFs were delivered in 1972-1976. The deliveries of 1972 and 1974 seemed to have had only the natural metallic color, while only the last deliveries were in the typical grey of the Gorki Factory. Since the 50s, the Romanian Air Force had as insignia the tricolored stars applied on the standard 6 positions. The Romanian Air Force switched from the tri-colored stars to the roundels already in 1984-1985 and probably in the same time or slightly before most (or all?) the MiG-21 MFs were locally painted in this grey/blueish color with stencils reapplied afterwards. This new grey/blueish color differs from the Gorki Factory grey, so there have definitely been two different types of blueish-grey on the Romanian MiG-21 MFs.
