Lancaster NN775 Glabbeek
Kommentit
Thank you for a respectful build and for allowing our brave aircrew to have a final resting place
Album info
This is one of the airplane recoveries I was involved in, the model was created using as much information as possible from the wreckage found.
On March 5, 1945, the NN775 crashed into a swampy meadow in Bunsbeek, Belgium. The aircraft was on its way back from Gelsenkirchen, where it was carrying out an attack on a fuel refinery. It crashed from unknown causes and disappeared completely underground. The seven occupants were killed. The airplane was only excavated in 2016. The remaining bodies of crew members were also recovered during that excavation. They were given a final resting place at the English cemetery near Leuven.
After the recovery I was involved in piecing together the wreckage of the original plane as well.
By making the aircraft visible to a large audience, the story of the crew is further told and their names are not forgotten.
