This is the first of two of these hangars that I will build. This one in 1/72nd scale will try it out, the next one in 1/48th scale will incorporate the experience.
Well, the interior will of course be touched up a bit, there will also be a fair amount of weathering and traces of use.

Are you following any specific plans or from your head? What material are you using?
It looks amazing so far....

That looks quite interesting. Do you know, wether hangars of this type are still existing?

Nice to see this one progressing smoothly. I messed my first hangar by trying to do it perfect. I farnished the cardboard and the farnish stuck it to the underlying cardboard. No way to separate the pieces again. Did you varnish yours or you put the paint straight onto the cardboard?

Again, I appreciate your benevolent interest and say thank you for it!
Roy, I will be using these GPM hangars for photography, but the buildings certainly look great in dioramas too!
I don't know if there is an exact prototype hangar, but I can see similar buildings here in Hörsching/Linz.
Michael, for colouring I tried something here that went well and I can recommend to everyone: water-soluble varnish was applied with a paint roller to the cardboard parts still stuck in the frames. First one side, after drying the other... This is much quicker than using a brush after assembly - I did this on the first barrel-vaulted hangar - and gives a more regular finish. Best of all, the paint flows onto the narrow sides of the cardboard and colours them too, another advantage over the tedious process of painting with a brush!

The first of the two "big" GPM hangars is now completed! A few quick pictures test its effect as architecture, as spatial volume and -still tentatively- as photo background for aircraft models. The whole thing really isn't all that big, so to give an idea of size I've also photographed it from the outside with a bit of scenery from my modelling shop.
I won't be able to resist making another film like this - the interior is just too inviting! 🙂

Seriously, it's hard to tell its not real from the photos. Only because you said we'd never know.

Yeah, Roy's right it looks very real (in particular when compared to mine 😉)
