6B-Adversaries: Southwest Asia (2001-)
This collection features weapons used in the Southwest Asia region during conflicts involving U.S. and Allied forces, particularly in the War on Terror, the invasion of Iraq, and the Syrian Civil War, during my service as a defense contractor.
TALIBAN
American forces clashed with lightly armed Taliban fighters during the invasion of Afghanistan and campaign to eliminate al-Qaeda. While the Taliban were primarily armed with small arms, RPGs, and mortars, these weapons posed a significant threat to U.S. aviation assets both in flight and on the ground.
- Fighters with RPGs/Small Arms (Taliban)
- BMP-2 (Taliban)
PAKISTAN
Although Pakistan was technically a U.S. ally, political relations have been tense. A direct conflict between U.S. forces and Pakistani interceptors was narrowly avoided during the raid on Osama Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan.
- F-16AM Fighting Falcon (Pakistan Air Force)
ISLAMIC STATE (DAESH)
Islamic State (ISIS/DAESH), a Salafi jihadist group founded in 1999, rose to prominence in 2014 by exploiting the aftermath of the U.S. invasion of Iraq and the Syrian Civil War. While ISIS was defeated in Iraq and Syria by 2019, remnants of the group still operate in regions like Libya and Somalia.
