In some tank units, tanks, including the T-70, received their own names. In the 28th GW. the tank brigade of the 39th army as of August 13, 1943, had 30 T-34 and 24 T-70 tanks, all of which were registered. The following "names" of t-70 tanks of this part are known: "Whirlwind", "Typhoon", "Grenades", "Varyag", "Rakhmatullin", "fighter", "Nameless". During the fighting on August 13-15, 1943 on mastering the front edge of the enemy's defense at the village of Ponizovye, the brigade lost 25 T-34 and 8 T-70 tanks, destroying up to 300 German men, 6 anti-tank guns, 4 Bunkers, 3 machine guns, 1 self-propelled gun and 2 cars. Thus, the losses of the T-70 were even lower compared to the losses of the T-34. This is explained by the fact that the 28th guards tank brigade conducted offensive operations in specific conditions of swampy and wooded areas. At the same time, due to the smaller size and weight of the T-70 acted more successfully and suffered fewer losses.
