HH-60G Pave Hawk
Operator: 920th Rescue Group
Location: Patrick AFB, Florida (USA)
Timeframe: 1995-1999
Loadout: Combat Search and Rescue
Personal interest:
This model represents a HH-60G Pave Hawk painted in the characteristic Euro 1 camouflage used throughout the 1990s. I regularly provided weather briefings to HH-60G crews during my tour of duty at Patrick AFB, whose mission was to conduct personnel recovery operations in hostile environments. The 920th RQG had the unique mission of NASA manned spaceflight support, on alert to perform emergency search and rescue for all Space Shuttle missions. HH-60G crews also performed civil search and rescue, medical evacuation, disaster response,
and humanitarian assistance missions worldwide.
I again worked with HH-60G aircrews flying identically painted aircraft when I supported the AFFTC. These crews were aways on alert to provide search and rescue for test pilots flying in the southwestern test ranges. I received a particularly memorable ride demonstrating the amazing maneuverability of this helicopter during that tour of duty.
