Personal interest:
The Tornado GR.4A was the primary tactical reconnaissance aircraft used during Operation Southern Watch, due to its excellent sensors and low altitude maneuvering capability. The multi-role Tornado was also an excellent strike aircraft, but Saudi Arabia did not allow strike missions to be flown out of its territory. The Saudis did make one exception, aircraft were allowed to defend themselves from attack by Iraqi air defenses, allowing use of the RAF ALARM. Various RAF Tornado squadrons deployed for Operation Southern Watch; this model carries the markings of No. 9 Squadron, which also fought in Operation Desert Storm.
