Jim JThe latest project is Francis Gabreski's P-47D Thunderbolt from the summer of 1944. I'm going to build straight OOB but with Techmod decals. I have not yet decided on the June or July 1944 version, which differ in the number of victory marks and the invasion stripes. Office is complete.

Jim JThe main painting is now complete. I chose the July 20 1944 version with the invasion stripes on the underside only. Using AK Real colors paints, the lower color is medium sea gray and the upper colors are RAF dark green and RAF Ocean gray. I painted the camo by freehand. Fortunately the masking worked pretty well with only minor touch ups needed. Gloss coat and decals are next.

William O.Mighty fine sir, mighty fine! I'm sure Mr.Gabreski would be very impressed with your model of his big ole bird. Here's an idea, you could make an entire dio, and surprise his family with it, would make a wonderful tribute to this great American hero.
Anyway, yours skills are very up to snuff, you should be very proud!

Jim JGabby's jug is now complete. The Tamiya P-47D Bubbletop kit certainly deserves its excellent reputation. I really enjoyed this build and am happy with how the paint scheme turned out. Enjoy the final photos.

Juergen KlinglhuberI got this kit for a reduced price on a flea-market - due to the fact that the cockpit and seat were missing. The former owner spoiled it or put it aside - I don't know exactly. But it wouldn't be me not taking this challenge. Lets go and scratch an Eurofighther cockpit...

CaptGPFPhenomenal built! The weathering, mud and rust effects really shine, and the rfigures turned out perfectly. Don't know how you got those eyes right, but very well done!

It was an easy kit to build, and I thought it was a nice balance between a simpler Tamiya kit and a much more highly detailed Dragon kit. The kit shares some sprues with their full interior kit, so there are lots of unused, but useful pieces included. It's made from a softer plastic than I typically work with, but I got used to it pretty quickly. Overall, it was fun to build while still providing an impressive amount of detail, and the pricing is fantastic. I'm very tempted to try my first full interior kit using one of the Takom late production hetzers.

JohnFantastic build and presentation Mark. 👍 I love the display base with the mottled/splinter colors of each aircraft too. I'm still sticking with Tamiya paints though... 😉

Mark SherwoodThanks John. I've got say even though I've just become a Fanboy of AKRC there's still a place in my heart for Tamiya Paints, they were a vast improvement over the Humbrol tinnies back in the mid to late seventies as where the kits over Airfix. 🤘🥸🤟

JohnI may give the AKRC a try. I'm just used to how the Tamiya paints behave, dilutions that work for my airbrush, etc. If I understand correctly, the AKRC paints are also acrylic lacquers like Tamiya and Mr. Hobby so they should work with the same thinners and such. They do have a good color range compared to Tamiya for sure.

Mark SherwoodYep. You're right John, lacquer based acrylics, as far as I can tell same formula different bottles. I did have some reservations about RLM02 1938 wether it was the right colour though. I used AK's thinners. I'd test on some plastic card with X-20 and Mr Hobby thinners to see how they behave, which I haven't done yet just ploughed on through with appropriate thinners to get the project over the line. Having said that I would still use Tamiya paints. I just got seduced by AK3G and like most affairs it did not work out well. On that note Atom and any new acrylic will be kicked into touch.🤣👍🥸🤘🥸🤟🤣

I only noticed it because I was wondering about having the C8 in my shelf. I corrected this mistakes and wrote Karl R. a PM. I hope he understands and above all: can you see what data he corrected on other kits? Hopefully he mixed not something else up.
By the way: the C8 already exists on scalemate since January 2023 - only without a boxart (Corvette C8 Coupe (Revell 07714, 1:25)).

Andrew ReadOne of my first attempts at a limited-run cottage industry kit, and I am thankful I left it more than 40 years before tackling it. I now have far more patience for what is a tricky kit for a casual modeller such as me!
