RAF WWII VC Winners - Wireless Operator/Air Gunner Sergeant John Hannah, VCNouveau: 18 November, 22:30 1:72
Oops, I had to redo the yellow as the mask had slipped creating and forgot to paint the white!

I remember building this kit as a kid, so I'm interested to see what you can do with it. It's about time Airfix retooled it.

I'm still trying to improve my "sanding" pre-shade technique, I think it works best with lacquer paints as they stick much better to the exposed plastic than any other type. As this will join my other VC tributes it will be on a pedestal so I'm happy enough with the underside - no competition winner but ok as will not be seen but was good practice with black

Time for more practice with doing my own masks based on the decal sheet. I intend to cover these with a blank which I now know should be a fraction smaller than the outer ring thus preventing a gap showing up, either that or I should spray the outer ring colour larger which seams to be the same idea only different😆. If any one with better knowledge on the best way you should approach spraying roundels please advise 👍

Seems like if you painted the roundel after the base color you wouldn't have the gap problem?

You're welcome David.
Ben, sometimes I miss the trees for the woods, you have a simple solution 👍. To try and make me seam a little less foolish I think I was trying to ensure I didn't get any sign of the camo marks in the roundels and in doing so have over complicated my life 🤪

I looked at how I did it the one time I tried it and I did the opposite, I painted the roundel first but didn't mask the edge round. Then I masked the whole thing with a tape circle PVA-KNIL Deperdussin-Léon de Brouckère Monoplane | Album by Bourgeois Detailism (1:48)
I try to come up with a plan where every edge is only masked once of that makes sense.

@Ben That's a great looking build you did there. thats the kind of thing I was going for but I tend to confuse my small bear brain as can be seen by the extra yellow ring above (pic 15) that should have been white 🤪

would it be possible to do some kind of duplication check when adding new shops? if one exist with the same name, suggest to check it before adding it. because I know for a fact that you have fixed this shop before, for example, but some people keep adding them again.

And there it is! I'd be embarrassed to say how long this took, and it's packed full of mistakes and semi-mended disaster...

I felt very uncomfortable cutting out the fuselage sections - I'd never done that before - but with the doors dropped open it means the cockpit will be more open.

Ah, cool! It's my first go at airbrushing and all going very slowly. But I'll get there in the end.

Me too... I've built the ancient-tool Airfix, but I have also bought the new one, and watching your work progress helps a lot.

Ah, look forward to seeing how you go lads. I'm no expert I'm afraid but you may pick up some tips as to what not to do

Thanks Andy, I'm recording the all the disasters along with the little wins. And the learning curve has been dramatic!

Thank you Ethan, and to everyone above. Encouraging comments are like a little shot adrenaline. They are all very much appreciated.

Thanks Luke, to be honest I couldn't tell if the model was fiddly or I wasn't doing it right.

Yeah, that was really tricky for me too, Ben. Huge learning curve! What I should have done was glue the outer struts to the bottom and dry-fitted the top until it was set - then glued the centre struts into the top wing, and put the two together. Getting this wrong can ruin the build.

Good outcome, this was the first biplane I had made for decades and it ended up looking like one too! I then built Airfix's 1/48 offering which goes together even better. I just need the courage to attempt some rigging.

Me too Nick, need to summon some rigging courage for the next biplane. I don't feel ready, but I guess you probably never feel ready.

Love it! I just got the top wing set on mine and promptly dropped it and it fell into 3 pieces 🤦🏻♂️ turned out ok, but a close look shows its flaws haha, the colour scheme you chose is cool and it turned out great 👍
