This will be an interesting and enlightening project - precisely because the shapes of the DC-3/ C-47 are so familiar, the slight deviations from them exhibited by its predecessor, the DC-2, are all the more striking.
The kit of the civilian DC-2 in the markings of a pre-war Japanese airline is wonderfully accurate to fit. The lack of detail in those places that were important to me I was easily able to extend to a C-47 with a little etched part. The exterior of the aircraft gets a complete NMF surface - what more could you want with these classic shapes? 🙂

Oh! I appreciate your interest and your motivating words, thank you mates! Yes, a "Tabby" or even a Lissunov Li-2 would be desirable!

I am working on the Li-2, Amodel, but completing it is a bit painful... 🙂

Interesting! But not untypical, as one hears/ has already experienced oneself...

Thank you for all your likes! I just finished the challenging DH.88 Comet, now I have time and leisure to continue with the DC-2!

The surfaces are now finished - I preferred to work over the entire surface with sandpaper - and polished it - I see black for the further course. As a primer for the subsequent Alclad!

I will show you two more construction stages. Now, before the next application of Alclad, a little correcting and fixing is done.

I see in the above comments that there are already thoughts about a follow-up project, after the DC-2: a Tabby or a Li-2... If I may just drop another idea - an interesting subject might be the famous Chinese "DC-2 1/2"... a CNAC DC-3 flown with a DC-2 wing outboard of the right engine... Just saying... it would be nice to see such a model from a master 😉

What a story! It was completely unknown to me until now, thank you very much for that alone. That would actually be an idea worth having. I'll think about it, there should be enough reference material. I thank you for this inspiration, a real "flight of the phoenix"!

🙂 Glad I mentioned it, then! You might want to have a look at Gregory Crouch's "China's Wings" book - which is, to put it mildly, fascinating reading...

Let's see 🙂 In any case, I am motivated to get out what I can.
Thank you Michael!

Almost poetic words, Bruce, which I appreciate very much! Thank you!
The surfaces are now ready to receive the decals. I am still considering whether to actually apply the "Hinomarus" suggested on the instructions, as I have not seen them on the few pictures (and the boxart). Do you have any knowledge about this question?

This could be the last construction photos of the Dc 2 "Aso-go: the decals are up and the surfaces have been brought to the point that I like best in terms of metal variations, gloss and shimmer. Now work is waiting in the form of clean-ups - for example on the antennas, the nose louvres and in the entire undercarriage area - as well as somewhat very discreet but nevertheless existing traces of use. In addition, the multiple tangled cables of the engines are to be assigned to individual spark plugs, well, if possible....
So, the end (of the build) is near! 🙂

Sorry, Roland, I have no idea of the Rising Sun. I guess I would follow the photos. I wish you a clear eye and a steady hand for the next steps 🙂

Thank you mates! Thank you Bruce, but in the meantime I have found a few more photos of Dc 2 "Aso-go" - all of which make me feel reassured to hold on to the Hinomaro-less varinate 🙂

The Dc-2 project is now finished - yesterday I was able to take a few quick photos of the finished J-BBOT, flying with the "Dai Nippon Koku", individually named "Aso-go". This aircraft was lost off Okinawa in 1940 after engine failure and an emergency ditching. Crew and passengers could be recovered unhurt.
The kit has its pitfalls and careful construction pays off; nevertheless, I am once again delighted with Special Hobby's interesting choice of aircraft!
Thank you for your interesting and motivating comments, mates!
