1/12 Ferrari 312T4
As it came.
Parts spread out for inspection. Needs some work.
Some items that I 3D printed. New roll bar (original broke during disassembly), wheel bearings, fuel injectors and fuel pump.
The motor as received. Look closely and you can see the fuel injectors are installed backwards. Not to mention, a 12 cylinder motor with 8 fuel lines (?)
Here we go....first order of business, BSI Debonder. This stuff works great, if you don't mind the smell of dead fish.
Motor in pieces.
Managed to remove all of the air intake horns without breaking or losing one!
New mesh for the intakes and 3D printed frames for them. Didn't turn out like I had hoped. I'll explain later.
The fuel pump looked rather...useless.
Printed a new one. Wasn't perfect but won't be seen very much anyway.
New 3D printed fuel injectors installed.
The final product! To explain the air intake frames from earlier, I measured them from the mesh, not the horn. They were a bit big so didn't quite fit properly in the end.
The chassis needed some work.
Pieces missing from fire extinguisher. Need to 3D print.
Front suspension pretty messed.
Original extinguisher, 3D printed valve assembly.
A little body work.
Old seat and belts.
New belts in refinished seat.
Rear end as received.
Brake ducts need some work.
Brakes refinished.
Springs/shocks redone. Revell Chrom spray. Wonderful stuff.
Completed rear end.
Front roll bar. Added toggle switches.
Redone steering wheel.
Rear end test fit.
Front end with new 3D printed brake ducts.
Oven cleaner bath for the body and other parts.
Body after the bath. Well, two baths actually. Paint was pretty thick.
Body parts after stripping.
Primed and ready.
Finally, a coat of red paint!
Rubber was glued to rims, destroyed while disassembling, so, off we go to the 3D printer again.
I know. No sizing/manufacturer data on the tires. My 3D design skills aren't that good.
Even with the missing info, I still say they look better than the old ones.
3D printed helmet. Decals were in the kit.
Overall not too bad. Not perfect but, it'll do.

Great work. I have kit to do, only hope I can get near your work.
I'm finding it hard to find a 3D design package I can use could I ask what you use to design your parts and any book/youtube you used to learn it? Do you design in kit scale or one to one then shrink to kit scale? Any help would be a great help cheers 👍

That's exactly, a perfect example of how 3D printing has improved our hobby. There's lots of things that I'd love to add to my builds, but they're not out there yet? Hence why I try to make my own.
Great restoration Mike!

Thanks, folks! I can honestly say, without a 3D printer, this car would have been a bear to finish. My scratch building skills aren't near as good as a 3D printer can do!
I've had a garage diorama in mind for many years and now with a 3D printer, I am making diorama pieces like a mad man! Tools, parts, people, signs...anything you can imagine. Now I just need to get off my butt and start building the damn thing! (As soon as I finish the other 15 projects that are in my "to do" pile! 🤣)

Thanks, Spanjaard...didn't realize the comments were off, don't remember setting it. Oh well, good now.
I recommend you don't hold your breath for the dio. I was basing it on my father-in-laws shop.

He had a two bay garage and his wife ran a fruit and vegetable shop from the convenience store side. I had actually bought some resin cast pieces for it when I was living with my wife and kids. I moved out in 2009 so...it's been on the back burner for awhile! 🤣😁

Album info
A restore/rescue/rebuild...whatever you want to call it. Was partially assembled, partially painted and partially there! A few pieces missing, some destroyed during disassembly and some just needed replacing. A few flubs in the end but turned out pretty good, all things considered.
