Beriev Be-6 flying boat/ By Playfix -Veb -Plasticart &Revell /72

Miniature pegs from Craft shop very handy for wings,
1st wing of the Beriev moveable Ailerons ( maybe ?) depends how much glue runs. 

Windows/portholes going in, l tacked in from behind with super glue gell, very strong and invisible from exterior ( not recommend for canopy's !!! As retaliation vital !!) or misting can happen. 

Just how l remember buying it back in 1992
It came with a strange paint pot shape tub of glue, that had to be pierced with pin...Messy ! 

Wings n floats together, Ailerons still move, not always good thing where paint is concerned ???
Will be a light green paint inside fus-
Masked out areas that need glue .... As glue is no good over paint!! 

Interior colour, that yucky sage green they used in 50' 60's
Not much will be seen so brush job.
The cockpit luckily has the usual Soviet green/ blue like on the mig-23. The super glue-gel tacked windows is holding well, lve had them pop out in past using poly or PVA...it's the flex in plastic. 

I dry fit together and get good fit, then create a tape hinge, then when l applied glue it closes back perfectly n just tape n peg edges  

Book-match the two sides  

Horizontal stabilisers going together, the miniature pegs are hand for edging  

I use scalpel blades to keep joints open while l run extra thin in joint. ..pull them out n let glue down the work. 

Took alot of Tape?!! as shell's a bit wavy, to be expected after 30yrs, but pulled in ok now, need a strong joint as stand is on center line. 

All the main parts built now, wings n tail went together great, the fuselage took a bit of encouragement to be gap free...but came together in the end.... Will have to dry fit/test glass next 

A basic kit, as it was aimed at youngsters. But going together well ?? 

Dry fit test of parts, not to bad, just goes to show a 33yr old kit is till good to build.. Decals?? Will have to see ?? 

Glass in at this stage now, as bit of filling to do around front glass, l use U.V resin for filling small gaps...it's very less messy than putty.
The internal green colour was mixed with 30% extra thin to give a hardened paint in window fit area... I then glue window in next day....with gorilla glue clear ...dabbed on with pin. 

Starting to get some glass parts in now. I use clear gorilla glue for glass n canopies. It dries totally clear, much stronger than PVA, and don't attack acrilic or enamel paint, just bit slow dying. 

The areas where the glass is glued on. I use a mix of the desired paint l need in that area , and l mix it with Tamiya Extra thin to make a really strong paint/ colored glue,
The glass has a really strong base to glue to then...that paint mix literally etched to plastic. 

Wing gaps filled with super glue-gel, l like it as a filler, pluss on a big wing like this it adds strength, sands reasonable too. 

Little update, wings are on, glued on with Revell poly, then roots filled with super glue gel, squirt it in gap n quick wipe away excess. 

The kit cost me £8, unopened good condition kit of eBay.
I carefully looked ot photos until l found an immaculate one.
Begin 33yrs old alot of the kits looked yellow!! 

The russian Navy boys, some Ex- Soviet , photos clipped from a final goodbye video they made in 1996, Sadly a shabby crew in a now money starved new Russia, Be-12 a modded Beriev be-6 off to new seaport's in china n Vietnam. 

Very little in reference for cockpit and colours for Beriev be-6 n be-12 , So l clipped few pics from 1990's video .

Torpedo, drops from inside the hull. 

Only the top of the seats n headrest are seen through the window, so the floor will be dark- black. 

I use car sponge's with slit,s in to steady n secure my models, it's soft so won't damage, and keeps the model up n projects bottom or top when working, on smaller model's l use just on 1 wing to do side decals.

Will be a bit of something to see through glass.
I will have dark floor to create deep cockpit look. 

This odd little thing will be the missing gun turret that is missing from this model!!
Bit of shapping n Paint...need to find couple of watch-strap pins to make twin gun's  

A bit of something to see through the window of cockpit, very basic kit so just adding a shiloete.
I choose the Soviet Aqua marine for cockpit as was common in 60's n 70's. 

Testing the strength of gorilla glue clear on clear to coloured plastic. The glue bottle is hanging from the end by tape.
it dries totally clear and doesn't effect acrylic paint.
I've used it on 10+ canopies now. 

 

 

This is photo of genuine Be-6,
I don't know why?? But the kit makers Veb, Revell and Plastiart show the engine intake on the bottom!! Which is completely wrong for a seaplane! As on the genuine one l will put the air-intake at top, the kit was allows for this..just swap sides, it looks right that way too.
Trumpeter has it right , look ..even box art wrong ?
Weapon area have been capped n painted for display. 

Cockpit canopy, is glued in now, the un-masked panels are to be painted with fuselage..as on actual aircraft.
The black stuff on windows is a masking fluid to keep tape secured... Little bubble window marked now too.. awkward mask!! 

 

Last window added, masked first as awkward shape .
I painted a mix of internal colour mixed with 10% extra thin .
Inside where you see through window.
This mix makes a really hard pain for gluing to. 

Missing cooling vents added under engine bay,s made of scrap spru ..round file n extra thin  

 

Got my small watch pins will use them to make guns for the turret, you can pull the spring out n have hollow barrel s. 

The gun turret has it's basic shape now, painted n sanded to see low spots, n filled with super glue gel or super glue depending on how deep low spots were, need to shape bottom to fuselage shape next, then guns to go in. 

The round profile of the bottle is about right to fuselage, just stuck bit of sand paper on with double tape.
I used the little dome window to try against the bottle to get an idea of what to use to sand the gun turret.

Gun turret shaped and watch pin guns in.
Some people have a aluminium effect turret, some fuselage colour. I think it's painted on full size one...be more original. 

I made n placed the missing induction vent that goes to the engineer's area at back of cockpit. 

The remaining box contents, the paperwork is well yellowed after 33yrs.
Not sure if decals will be useable this old ??
I will paint the red stripe if think, and use a bit of the stripe on some scrap to see if any good??
