Hey Xenia,

Outstanding job on both aircraft! But can you post more from the F-4 JG 71 bird? This is a camo i always wanted to make but i lack reference pix! Looks like a "decal-battle"! 😄

Thanks guys!

Guus, in Andreas Klein's "Luftwaffe Phantoms Part 4" covering experimental camo and special schemes on German (R)F-4s there is a fantastic photo of this plane in this scheme with a cloudy blue sky in the background, and it really does blend in well!

Holger: There's a few photos and a 3-view drawing in the book I mentioned of this scheme and all others, so it's definitely worth getting! I have a fair few more Luftwaffe Phantoms to build...

Thanks Xenia, there were similar experiments elsewhere. They tried it on A-37 in Vietnam if I remember correctly. Shame the smoke trail of those Phantoms was such that you didn't really need a radar to find them 🙂

Great job in both planes, the f-4 camo looks not like an easy job!

Absolutly fine... nice work... the cloudy sky camo looks difficult... isn´t it?

Soeren: The Fulcrum is the Airfix kit. Which I will not build again, I have now two Tamiya 9.12s in my stash and 3 more on the way for my future MiG-29 builds. And I'll have to think about getting another set of the HAD decals I used, to eventually replace this build.

Christian and Ralf: It wasn't *too* hard. It's only two colours, but masking was quite time consuming. There are a couple other experimental schemes in the book that look fantastic but also look to be a much more intricate and difficult job to replicate.

Thx for the info Xenia, because I'm still looking for a good Fulcrum kit. Maybe I will try ICM then.

Soeren: for a 9.12 go for the Italeri kit (which is also the Tamiya kit), it is the best one available. For a 9.13, ICM's is the only real option (the box with the red, not the white box - that's the very bad Condor moulds) for the moment, but Zvezda will be releasing a 9.13 in the (hopefully) near future. Given the quality of Zvezda's recent kits, I'm happy to wait for them to release that to really get going on 9.13 builds, but at least we do have a pretty good kit of the 9.12 in the Tamiya/Italeri kits.

Bernd: when I saw this scheme I just knew I had to build it! I don't even have an F-4F in Norm 72 yet (although I do have an RF-4E built in that scheme), this is my first... and I plan to eventually do the other experimental schemes as well. I think they'd all look super on a model, especially if done by someone who can paint better than I can! 🙂

Yeah also Trumpeter has announced a MiG-29. Could be also interesting. But thanks for the tip with the Italeri kit.

Soeren: also, for a UB go with the Italeri kit, too.

Often I buy whatever Hasegawa kit is cheap, without looking at the decal option inside, since I have a large stash of aftermarket decals and chances are I won't use the kit decals. And Hasegawa is considerate enough to have all manner of extra parts inside, so you can build other variants from the same kit. There are some special editions that I would love to have, though, that I'm sure I will pay dearly for.
