The 232's always remids me of a big mole cricket. How does mole cricket tranlate into German as I think this will be a great name for htis vehicle? Gary

That's nothing, there's a German word for Chimneysweep that's about 20 or 30 letters long 😮

I don't know many German words, even though my Great Grandfather came from there, it seems that the one word is a whole sentence in english. Then there's people fron Louisiana that will take a word like windshield wiper and make a sentence out of it. Gary

My wife is half German... My German is better written or read, when it comes to speaking it, my pronunciation is crap. My German mother-in-law gives me really funny looks when I attempt it. She speaks English fluently which is self taught!!! after she married her Welsh husband, when he was based in Germany as a soldier in the early 50's.

The long German word you may be thinking of could be "Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitänswitwentod", but there are of course more (and even longer ones). 🙂

Lots of fa(h)rts in the German language : Ausfahrt, Abfahrt, Einfahrt, Durchfahrt and so on..... Btw, the biggest city in Germany is "Ausfahrt", because every exit on the Autobahn leads there.....😉 in fact it just means 'Exit '😉

In my Cricket Team i have several buddies that make a fortune by translating german manuals into English, you will be surprised how us Germans know words that have no tranlation, especially technical terms.

Sorry for the nitpicicking, but "Streichholzschächtelchen" more or less equals "little matchbox", a full grown machtchbox is just "Streichholzschachtel". And if you don´t like you mother in law you could call her "alte Schachtel"... but you probably shouldn´t do that...😉

Whenever my wife and I are in Germany we stay at The Hotel Les Nations in Berlin, unless of course we visit other areas of Germany, but we particularly like Berlin, it's where my mother-in-law was born in Tiergarten...
The hands on owner is a dead ringer for Basil Fawlty!!! We bacame friends and he'd leave me memo's everywhere with the longest German words he could come up with on them... I still have some of them, I'll dig them out... I'll email him that one you said!!! One day I came down for breakfast and he was on reception with a bandage around his head, dealing with some guests. When he clocked me, he said in a loud voice, whatever you do madam whilst staying here, DON'T mention the English, I did once, but I think I got away with it!!! Everyone turned to look at us laughing, am I really that obvious? The next day I waited until reception was very busy with guests and other people, then walked up and said, hi Mr fawlty? I'm the hotel inspector, we've had reports of an escaped Hamster!!! It was only one or two people who were not guests that didn't understand and laugh. We stay there whenever we go to Berlin now. It makes breaks and holidays so much more memorable with the rapport we have together!!!

There's a place in Thailand called PHUKET and yes it's pronounced as you think it is, it rhymes with BUCKET... But some Television news programmes insist it's pronounced FOO - KAY...
Does this not remind you of Hyacinth Bucket in Keeping Up Appearances, who insists that her surname is pronounced Bouquet...

I used to live in Forida and there were 3 places with funny names. Kissemee, Okahumka and Titusville, which newcomers read as Tits us ville.
I've added some interior pics of the 232 that was scratch built. The floor is a piece of paper artist canvas. The stearing wheels are made from sodder. More stuff to be added. Gary

Regarding funky geographical names, in the far-eastern part of The Netherlands there are two villages called Enter and Rectum, so there actually are signposts telling you to "Enter Rectum"...

Thanks Wayne, I'm in the process of making a mold of a radio from another kit. Most of the interior is scratched. I figured that since it's a radio vehicle it would have a radio in it somewhere. Gary
